Monitor Size - 27" or 32"?

I am currently using a 24" monitor and found it a bit small for design work and video editing.

A bit unsure whether I should go 27" or 32"…

Since my desk is not that big, 32" would take up a lot of space, but not sure whether 27" would make much difference.

Keen to hear others opinions. Thanks

Definitely 32". More screen real estate for productivity and you can have 2 documents side by side comfortably (or Outlook and another program etc.)

You won't be able to go back to smaller monitors.

    32" 4k is good.

  • 34 4k from phillips $220 brand new…

Once go big you will never look back (re: look small)

    24 to 27? Wasting $ better don't upgrade

    Get bigger desk

    Get bigger room

    Get bigger house.

    Having recently upgraded from a 24" 1080p to a 27" 1440p, I wouldn't go either at 1080p and I wouldn't go 32" at 1440p.

I've found the pixel density increase to be the biggest improvement, so if you're worried about desk space you could even try a 27" 4k panel. Alternatively, a monitor arm might help you free up more desk space.

  • I work with design drawings in my job. In the office we have dual 27" 4k monitors which are ok to work on, however I have dual 32" 4k monitors at home and on the days I get to WFH 32" are a much better size for 4k resolution.

    • I forgot to add I previously had a 32" 4k curved monitor when I first started WFH - it's all I could get my hand on at the time..

I don't recommend using a curved monitor for design drawings as the curvature will distort things.

  • 32 or 34 inches have more real estate to multi task windows which is extremely helpful.

  • Save your money and stick with the 24".

Just work closer to the screen.

My set up combines a 34" curved Xiaomi Mi (OzB's favourite), a 24" Lenovo to my left in a portrait config, and a 27" LG I received from a mate recently in a landscape config on my right.

The 27" is so much bigger than the 24", and I also find that I would like the 27" to be curved (only just - it's fine, but just a little noticeable).

So essentially it depends on your set up; how you use your PC, what desk you sit at, and what will fit in the space. Before I got the 27" I was considering getting a 32" and am glad I didn't because there's no way it'd fit (yeah I didn't measure - hadn't got that far in my 'research' yet).

All my monitors are mounted to either the wall, or a shelf above using monitor stands. Nothing touches my desk. Everything is DIY. I can share some photos if anyone is curious/wants some ideas.

      yes… please post…

  • For a single monitor, I definitely go the 32.

If you're looking at a double monitor set up, I'd go 2*27 for general office work (i.e. outside of graphic design, similar). The 32s get big in double set ups.

    • 2*27" = 49"

I have this setup too but one is 1440p 155 Hz and other one is 1080p 165 Hz, wanted to save some money with that

A friend and I purchased 27 and 32 (4K) during last year's EOFY sales. The caveat with the 32 is you need to sit slightly further away - even a 60cm desk might be too close. I'd suggest you demo a 32 before committing.

  • Thanks for all the comments, they were really helpful.

I'm leaning towards a 32" 4k monitor, which one is the best bang for the buck?

    My requirement:

    • 32" 4K
    • IPS panel
    • Adjustable height and angle
    • flat screen
    • compatible with mac

I'm looking at LG 32UN880-B and Samsung Odyssey G70B which sits with my budget. Are they good for their prices?

    • I got an LG 32UK550-B (VA) for $427 last year, should be some EOFY deals about to drop.

    • 32" for single monitor setups. Having more than one 32" monitor causes serious problems with viewing angles (I found out the hard way). 32" are also too wide to be put into vertical orientation (too tall). If you are planning on multi-monitor or portrait mode, I would go for the 27". I have a LG 32UN880-B and love it btw.

  • Keep in mind that 27" and 32" monitors have a different aspect ratio to a 34". Just in case you find a reasonable 34" model.
No idea which is better for your specific use but it's worth having a look at a couple in store to see which works better for you.
