The more research I do, the more I think OLED will limit this laptop's lifespan. Might be better off buying something non-OLED if I want it to last 3 years? Am I overreacting to the burn-in factor?

    • You can prolly make pros and cons list, and I'm pretty sure you'll have more enjoyable time during your laptop lifespan than normal lcd screen in that time.

I've got an old Panasonic FZ950 OLED tv from 2019, and it is still going good (knock on the wood). But some say that tv and pc are different.

I guess it's a lucky dip on how long laptops will last these days. I've got a dell laptop from 2008 that is going strong and will probably outlast me and yet, a MacBook air from 2013 died 3 years ago.

That being said, the dell has had a hard life, been dropped a number of times while the air was mostly babied but my MacBook Pro from 2015 (aside from battery capacity) is still keeping pace with the demands made on it.

        • Similarly, I've a laptop from 2008 (Samsung) that keeps working till this day - and is generally more competent than the current crop. If I could swap out the processor/memory - I'd probably keep it.

Still, the sales pitch is that the crop of new tech from the later end of this year will provide both decent battery life AND decent GPU capability, so maybe then is the time to sidegrade.

Its not just burn in issues, OLED panels loses brightness overtime and the colours degrade at different rate which means as it ages the colours will start shifting to a certain colour.
