Thought this is at a good price for a Core i5 17.3" screen with a 750GB 7200rpm HDD.

For me 17.3" and 13.3" inch laptops are for totally different purposes. And 1366x768 is not Full HD.

I'm not telling you to buy it, I'm saying it as a suggestion….

Why on earth would anyone thinking of buying a machine with a 17.3" screen be even remotely interested in a Ultrabook with 13.3" screen?

I really don't see how you came to the conclusion that this has better specs.. :\

Essentially it's second hand, 1ghz slower, half the amount of ram and lower screen resolution. The SSD is on ok touch but for a laptop I thnk I'd go the 750gb 7200 rpm drive considering you can't chuck a second storage only drive in there.

But I digress, the actually OP deal is all sweet till it hits the intel HD graphics part :( If it had a half decent dedicated GPU it would be pretty swish.

  • Isn't this the same:
    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/DELL-Inspiron-17-3-2nd-Gen-3Ghz-T…

Please let me know if I'm wrong, but I don't see the "bargain"

    • Looks the same but that one has 640gb hdd instead of 750gb that this one has.

      • Beat me to it.. "Huge 640GB ULTRA SATA Hard Drive" rather than 750GB.

        • +1

My comment still stands, looks like average price, no real bargain.

      • +2

I'd say it's a better deal though, you're saving about 10% of the cost and only losing 110Gb. At the very least it's the same value, implying this deal posted isn't really a bargain.

  • How about the JBHifi Samsung 14" Ultrabook?
This weekend $718.40 plus get a $100 Gift Card from Samsung.

    http://www.jbhifi.com.au/computers/samsung/14-inch-ultrabook…

    530U4B-S01AU
    2nd Generation Intel Core i5-2467m 1.60ghz CPU
    4GB RAM
    16GB Ssd + 500GB HDD

Specs look decent. But the touchpad seemed a little resistant compared to the 7 series.

    • Unless Samsung have done work on their touchpads in the last 6 months I'd steer clear of them, they're horrible.

Of course if you don't use the touchpad then there's no real issue with them.

  • I think its the same model I'm seeing on Amazon for a lot cheaper, and in USD

  • Features: "12 Month CatchOfTheDay Warranty". I would be very cautious about it. For some reason there is no manufacturer's warranty.
