Officeworks Trade-in Program Operated by Moorup Technology: Trade in Old Devices for Instant Officeworks Gift Cards

1721

I just came across the Officeworks trade in program for Phones, Watches and Ipads etc. Supported by Moorup.

They seem to offer a lot more than other similar services such as JB Hifi and Mobile Monster.

For EG: For a iPhone 12 Pro Max 128gb
JB = $550
Mobile Monster = $580
Officeworks = $750

So it seems to be lots of on offer using their program. Of course I would say they each phone varies, but it seems iPhones are much better at OW.

Certainly handy if intending to upgrade etc.

    • Couldn't find older models like OnePlus One

  • Wonder how much it’ll go down when the new iPhone comes out. Got a 12 Pro Max so the price they’re offering is good but then I’m without a phone.

Wonder how much it’ll be impacted come Sept/Oct when the new iPhone is out.

    • check T&Cs usually they give a time period to send phone in by - usually 10 days or so I think.

That way you can initiate the trade deal prior to launch of the new iPhone so the value doesn't go down.

When you see your old POS laptop listed… Fully functioning? - Yep! > No damaged LCD? - All good! > Comes with a charge cable? - You betcha! = $0. RIP

Nice of them to list devices with $0 trade in value. Could've saved myself 3 questions if I didn't find my device.

  • Why no love for Pixel budget A series?

    • Cause it can last 5 more years which is better for the planet

12 Pro Max might be 30 months old now, but you must be able to get at least $750 for it on Gumbook?

  • i wonder if they give you anything for an iphone 5

My S10e has an issue with green tint on the screen. Officeworks does not specify 'normal colours' as part of the criteria for fully functioning? What are the odds they'll take it?

my Apple iPad Air - offer was $10….haha ouch

  • My experience.
The return label sent from Moorup says no payment required. On the website, it says "For Mobile Phones and Smart Watches you will receive the free packaging at any Australia Post office when you present your Australia Post shipping label."
At post office, I was told the shipping label only covers postage, not packaging. You will be asked to package the iPhone to an unknown standard so as to be accepted by Australian post office!

Go to another AP outlet or ask for a supervisor in store, staff sometimes don’t know what they are doing.

    • Same experience here @steven6956
Moorup even admited that there is an error between their system and AU Post. Yet, their email still says packaging is included.

  • what if the screen is cracked

I've got phones from ~15 years ago, would they count? Also have Redmi Note 4X, Samsung galaxy S2, S3.

  • +1

Can you drop the phone off instore or do you have to post it?

    • +1

You will have to post it. It is prepaid and it says that AU Post will provide the packaging. HOWEVER,that is not the case. The shipping is prepaid, but the packaging is actually not. So, you will need to pack it yourself.
Moorup (company who deos the trade-in program for Officeworks) even admited that that is an error between their system and AU Post, yet, in their email still says that the packaging will be provided by AU Post. Please read my other my comment here regarding my experience doing trade-in at officeworks. Not a good experience!

Good for Officeworks isn't it - they get a device they can resell, then they give you a gift card that you HAVE to use in their store, so really they're not losing a whole amount.

  • Haha, I remember when I told my boss I took the trainee to the cex shop for 5 mins once when we stood around chatting and the response I got to tell her oh it’s just a gaming shop , lol

  • Not working with laptop

Just a sharing of my experience doing the trade-in program with Officeworks, which is actually handled by Moorup. I did a trade-in on their last Samsung Galaxy S23 pre-release offer in January. Initially, everything went well. But, one of the offer was that we would get an extra bonus gift card if we pre-order prior to a certain date in january, which I did. Until today, I have been sending emails back and forth more than 20 times with moorup, and also a few phone calls and still no bonus gift card.
Their response time in emails is atrocious (upo to 2 weeks and repeated emails). And, when they responded, they simply say that they are looking into it, need to get someone from another department, need to get authorization, etc etc.
When I contacted Officeworks to assist, their response is simply "We dont manage trade-ins. You have to deal with Moorup".
So, in my opinion, it is NOT worth doing your trade-in at officeworks.

these companies like using third party so they can let them handle it
and send you in an email circle

    • How long it takes for the “instant” gift card to be delivered? Few hours passed still no any email after the verification process finished…

      • Did I come? Same boat as you today.

        • Nope still waiting, no confirmation email, no voucher. Emailed support.

          • @pgsheng: I spoke to their call centre now and there has been technical difficulties over the weekend and should be rectified today, so keep an eye out for vouchers I guess. Fingers crossed.

            • @Ndhndg: Did you call officeworks? There’s no contact number with moorup. Did received email from support saying they are chasing it up however still no follow up nor card so far.

              • @pgsheng: I called the contact number on moorup website 03 6118 7190. Mine came overnight finally

                • @Ndhndg: Cool, they did reply saying there was technical issue, good to know you’ve got yours already. Still waiting for mine…

                  • @pgsheng: It’s a bloody nightmare though. The gift card can only be used in store, not online.

In store cannot pre order. I have no use for an office works gift card beyond buying the new iPhone, and because I need to return my old iPhone by next Monday I need to preorder. My local store said they don’t even know if they will get stock before moor-up requires the old phone back.

I’ve spoken to officeworks head office and they have said there definitely will not be stock in stores on Friday, it’s an online preorder deal only, and you need to spend your gift card on something else all together.

Regretting taking on the deal now.

                    • @Ndhndg: @Ndhndg: I went to store to confirm before the trade-in and preorder, the staff confirmed when picking up they are ok to refund on the spot so that I can pay it with the gift cards.
Ps. just received my Moorup tradein gift card, with a caveat that instead of having to send the device by 13/Oct as I seen when go for tradein, the email ask me to return my old device by 26th/Sept… Update, called Moorup, they've made notes to allow return by 13/Oct as the OW promo conditions.

  • Surface pro 5, can't select RAM options 8GB, 16GB.

  • I sold my pixel 2 xl 128gb to CeX for $127. Officeworks offered $40. Others don't accept it.

To bad things like this dont even know what a Xiaomi 11T Pro is…

  • went through the process for my pixel 6 (OW is offering the best by at least $70 more than others) but I haven't received the email with label etc.

Does it usually take more than 24 hours to get that email ?

  • I bought my Surface Pro 6 from Malaysia so it has a Malaysian/British power adapter. Will they accept it?

  • trade in prices have changed, iphone 12 pro max 256GB is now $640

  • I would never use them again. Choose those in-store trade in which is safer.

  • They don't seem to accept my Nokia 3110 3G.
