Officeworks Trade-in Program Operated by Moorup Technology: Trade in Old Devices for Instant Officeworks Gift Cards

1721

I just came across the Officeworks trade in program for Phones, Watches and Ipads etc. Supported by Moorup.

They seem to offer a lot more than other similar services such as JB Hifi and Mobile Monster.

For EG: For a iPhone 12 Pro Max 128gb
JB = $550
Mobile Monster = $580
Officeworks = $750

So it seems to be lots of on offer using their program. Of course I would say they each phone varies, but it seems iPhones are much better at OW.

Certainly handy if intending to upgrade etc.

Put in a few devices from newish to old and cex beat OW every time. Didn't try iPhones though.

    • +1

CEX only in a couple states unfortunately.

      • +6

Do we have CEX in Victoria?

        😳

        • +52

          I can has cex?

          • +7

@WhyAmICommenting: no cex in Victoria sorry

have to go to ACT for that

            it's a federal fkin issue

If your device isn't tool old, sure…

            • @jv: Yes, device is tool!

            • @jv: or too young

            • +3

@jv: Just admit it! JV loves Dan Andrews.

Just admit it! JV loves Dan Andrews.

Shame he doesn't reciprocate that love for the families of the victims of murderer Paul Denyer….

Andrews refuses to back Bill to keep Frankston serial killer jailed
Daniel Andrews has refused to support an opposition Bill to stop Frankston serial killer Paul Denyer applying for parole.

@jv: The law exists and people sentenced accordingly. As evil as the guy is, he was judged and is serving their time. The families of the victim will be invited to have their say at the parole hearing and this will most likely be enough to keep him behind bars.

                  • +2

                    @Cyphar:

The law exists and people sentenced accordingly.

and the law has been changed in the past to keep others in jail who should never be released.

                    • @jv: Can you provide some Australian examples? Laws have been changed to modify the conditions of release in the past (IE pedo's that are too great of a threat to be allowed unsupervised release), however I am unfamiliar of laws changed to extend lengths of sentence. Happy to be proven wrong on this though.

I tired checking my phone out of curiosity (Pixel 7 Pro 512GB)

Officeworks: Doesn't even have the option for taking it
      Cex: $570
      Mobile monster: $800

    • +1

iPhone 13 Pro Max 512GB nets $1100 at OW, and only $847 on CeX.

    • +169

Well the bargain was we didn't have to deal with you, but that didn't last long.

      • -6

we didn't have to deal with you

        I use a proxy.

      • +1

I have a pretty good OW nearby. NQA returns, easy price beats.

but honestly I would rather deal with JV

        • +1

but honestly I would rather deal with JV

I'm more flexible with price matches…

          • +2

@jv: You had me at "I'm more flexible" 😍

          • +2

      haha rekt.

you should consider leaving this site bruh.

      • +1

you should consider leaving this site

        why?

        • +6

because your pointless posts are annoying and a waste of time

      • +1

What the hell is even that?

        • My bablefish came up with error when translating it

  • +6

    $800 for my 12 pro max 256gb doesn't seem too bad…

    • +3

for almost 3 yr old tech, I consider that a massive win.

      • +3

Listings on facebook are in the 400-700 range so I'd say so!

        • +3

Do you need to spend $800 at OW? In my whole life, I reckon I haven't spent more than $200 there.

          • @justtoreply: They have heaps of tech etc especially their online store and also price beat other stores

            • +3

              @Slut:

and also price beat other stores

              sometimes…

    • $630 now so dropped $170 in 3 months mmm

  • +2

Not bad. $700 for my iPhone 12 Pro 256GB. Doubt I’ll get that much on FB marketplace.

    • +11

yes but an OW gift card is worth less than cash. Useful if you want to shop at OW though.

      • +1

True - just holding out for a good deal (hopefully soon) and do a price match with OW :)

      • +17

Given that Officeworks offer a 5% price beat, are on the supported retailers for some Ultimate gift cards which are regularly discounted 10% (and up to 15%) off, offer price beats on identical grey imports but then have Australian warranty on them, and also are part of the Flybuys program, they are one of the better gift cards to have.

        • +5

If they regularly have discounted (10%) gift cards then the $700 trade in is actually only worth $630.

          • @sween64: That's true, but it's not that black and white … if you trade in to a retailer that does not have 10% discounted gift cards available, then the outstanding amount from the total sale price cannot have that 10% discount applied to it. So the gift card might have 10% less face value compared to another store, but the rest of the sale has an additional 10% cost to it if you use their gift cards (e.g. Samsung store). If you can trade it for cash at the same price then you'll come out ahead, but the original comment was about Officeworks gift cards not being a favorable trade.

            • @rekke: Does JB give credit or cash? I assume Mobile Muster is cash, probably the best way to go. Best flexibility.

              • @sween64: JB gives credit, along with Apple and Samsung giving credit as well

    • +2

Are you really that thick you just pretend to be? If someone is planning to upgrade, this can be better than selling privately.
This equals to more money in hand if you still don’t get it, which is the whole point of this website.

      • As others have pointed out without being insulting, there are far more effective and financially rewarding ways than to use the officeworks trade up program. As someone who has used the officeworks trade up program it was quite possibly the worst experience ever. So as per my original comment, it is not a bargain.

        • +2

That is totally a different point than what you said earlier though.

  • +5

30 bucks for Pixel 2XL. I'll just it as a media player..

    • +2

      Free photo backup?

    • +1

does ozbargins have a marketplace maybe that could be added for people that want to sell things

  • +1

Not a bad option OP and one I wasn't aware of

My Samsung Galaxy S20 FE 5G

    JB - $200
    MM - $200
    OW - $220

    • +5

It is an OW gift card, not cash.

    • +1

Exactly what I noticed for my S20FE 5G… might be time to trade in and get a Pixel

      • +1

Was thinking exactly the same :D

        • +1

That would bring the Pixel 7a down to $527

    • how much did you buy the S20 FE 5G for?

      • +2

        $700 over 2 years ago

        • +1

out of curiosity why are you thinking of getting a new phone? Now days there is hardly any difference in newer models, expect camera maybe.

          • +1

@morediscount: I've been feeling that. Unless the phone bricks, no reason to buy anything.
Plus new androids generally take away app perms in each iteration for :security:

          • @morediscount: The difference between the camera on my S20 FE and my sister's S23 Ultra is huge. I'm gonna sit with the S20 FE for a while longer tho.

          • +1

@morediscount: There is no innovation with Apple or Samsung. They're running an oligopoly and have no reason to improve. Some of the products being produced in China are exciting, however these products aren't being sold in the west.

    • The Boost app refused to go to the final screens, but they at least give cash (if it worked!)

    • CeX (online) - $294 or $318 credit voucher
      eBay (DIY, after fees/shipping) - $314.01

      I'm also thinking about it.

    • Wow, I bought a S20FE about 2 years ago and am surprised the value dropped so much.

  • +6

is this really a deal? forums maybe?.

It's an Officeworks giftcard and not cash, so that's probably why there's a difference in pricing?

  • +43

Be careful with this offer, you will get an instant gift card, but:

    1. You will need to put your credit card details and pre-authorisation of the amount is taken from your CC
    2. If you fail to send the device, then the pre-authorisation amount will be charged right away
    3. If they received the device and assess that it is not working up to 100% standard then
3a. If you accept the new adjusted price, then your credit card will be charged the difference
3b. If you do not accept the new price, the device will be sent back, and your credit card will be charged the full amount

Basically, there is no way to change the credit back to you, you will get the OW gift card no matter what. Also interesting to see what they constitute as working well, I suspect they offer the high amount now but will see it reduced after they have received the device.

See the details here - https://officeworks.moorup.com.au/terms

    • +2

Similar terms for all these trade in programs but good shout. Always best to be aware of what you're getting into.

      • None of the others pre-charge your credit card. That's just absurd.

You lock in the price, and they send you the money when they have assessed the item. They either send you the amount you agreed to when you told them the condition of your device, or an adjusted amount according to the actual condition.

Personally I'd prefer to take a slight hit on the price to get cash instead of a potentially useless Officeworks gift card.

    • +6

Probably just to scare dodgy people away. Good to know though.

  • Really odd selection of devices, some random tab devices but no tab s8

    • I noticed that for the Pixel 6a which is the only Google phone missing.

I emailed them and they're looking at a manual offer, just waiting to hear back.

  • $60 for an old iPhone 7 32GB

    Officeworks: $550
    CEX: $449
    JB: $350

    • I got 500$ for pixel 7 pro 256 gb..

  • +3

    do they take damaged devices?

    • You gotta inquire because it's technical "It’s our device trade-in program that helps save you money and is good for the planet. If your device is eligible for credit, you can get an instant Officeworks Gift Card." Seems like their purpose is for the good of the planet.

  • +3

$525 for a pixel 6 pro is good.

  • +3

For my device was higher in Officeworks than JB, Mobile Monster or CEX
