Backup WhatsApp Data Unable to Restore

I'm using android VIVO X50 Pro latest FW, updated whatsapp, rebooted phone restored reset my phone after this issue occured.

I just merged one of my old whatapp numbers with my new phone number on whatsapp account, Then backed up everything just to have my files and chats saved. After that I deleted and reinstalled what's app to fix a few Minor notification issues since default reset wont work, but that's fixed now.

and now I'm getting a message saying
"unable restore your chats from back up" it's tiny 42mb file, which is backed up by google gmail, I think problem is due to my number merging, any idea how to resolve this?

Just guessing it is a glitch of some sort. Why does what's app let us back up if you can not even restore it?

I have tried multiple times reinstalling whatsapp, it keep insisting me backup with a older file, which I don't have, as only got 1 back up.

WhatsApp need to get their game together for backing up files as it's a run around the hoop to to get your important chat logs, looks like a common problem with many folks no wonder people moved to other social media and this company is going bankrupt, guess won't be using whatsapp if can't fix this problem I had alot of memories I can't back up and it's disheartening.

I tried doing that a couple of months ago (without merging numbers) and it kept failing too. I ended up just copying out all the images/videos that I wanted to keep from the sub-directories and just ditched the whole restore thing!

Dont worry Zuckerberg still has it all.

  • I know its no help to you trying to restore your data into the beast, but it is very much a matter of whatsapp doing exactly what fb wants it to.

Given this has everything to do with locking in the 99.9%, spaffing ads, and mining profiles, any such 'use case' troubles are always disappointing to hear.

After all, world+dog knows backup is something you get right from the beginning and leave well alone. If you must break it, you fix it before release as your regression and system testing teams (all or mostly automated testing) will tell you you wrecked something, long before you need to go live.

Backup is not something you break and avoid fixing because there is noone prioritising repairs above spaffing and slurping PII.

So here we all are, watching miserably what was an excellent communications system, bering royally ZuXXed: Account holders' data siphoned into endless, persistent datalakes. Indexed, cross-referenced, and sold to any bidder- well it's akin only to seeing everyone willingly cuXXolded for eternity.

Only now it is AI bots doing the heavy pumping.

  • it's easy to save the data… you just need to copy it from the WhatsApp profile (appropriate folders within WhatsApp) on the phone you wanted the backup from, then you put those same files in the appropriate folder of WhatsApp that you re-installed, then WhatsApp figures out the rest and that's all there is to it. I've done it countless times when swapping to a different phone. It works better than an online backup, and then hoping it just works.
