Damnit…. there were no comments so i hit buy… i saw these for 700 on the bunnings site.. so thought its a steal for 60, maybe a price error…
How bad are they?
They are ok for this price
The case almost this price already
Thanks, i don't feel too bad now. Guess they're a back up to my Global knives

Bunnings sell Baccarat?
Must be bunnings marketplace or something
Baccarat are an Australian knife brand, buying stuff from China, "Japanese-steel" and labelling Japanese-sounding names on all their knives
Stick with the ones that have stood the test of time, Victorinox if you want value for money (there's a reason why all the industrial kitchens use them)
Go find Japanese brands if you are buying for that factor
Otherwise Wusthof/Shun/Global are name brands you can trust, though I'd say Global steel is very soft for a Japanese brand (making western style knives, I have some too..)
Forged/stamped blades do not really have any effect on the edge, I have both.
My favourite knife is a Victorinox Rosewood 22cm "Carving"'/Cook's knife which I got for $62 from Peters of Kensington some time ago
Go Fibrox handle if you want no-nonsense, dishwasher safe, normally cheaper due to it not looking as pretty
Forged are normally thicker and heavier, not as nice to use as a lighter nimble knife (stamped blades & real Japanese knives)
If you're cleaving through bones, you're better off using a chinese cleaver/beater knife, no knife edge will survive that abuse.
Don't need a knife set, just get a Victorinox chefs knife/Pairing knife
Those who say they need a bread knife - your chef's knife isn't sharp enough to slice through bread)
Don't worry about the wank factor for forged vs stamped blade
If you want Japanese, get it from wherever you want, below is a good starting point

Not just on Bunning but also on Amazon for $799.99 sold by the same retailer, House. On the official website currently on sale for $150. Not sure how much this bargains as mine was a gift from my family. It was my first fine knife set so I feel good using them. Light, sharp, easy to cut and store and you will like them for most basic use cases. And also lifetime guarantee

I'm happy that you're happy, also thanks for sharing your findings/deal (I'm just against the crazy RRP and marketing spin they put on this, to me it speaks volumes about the workmanship behind the brand)
And also lifetime guarantee
Let's see what that covers..
Warranty - Baccarat Lifetime Guarantee and 12-Month Guarantee
Baccarat products are covered by a guarantee which is provided by Playcorp Pty Ltd (ACN 006 277 363).
What it does not cover:
The guarantee does not cover defects or faults caused to the product by:
Misuse or a failure to use in accordance with our “Care and Use Instructions”, such as improper use and cleaning, neglect, modification, fire or flood, theft or commercial use, or normal wear and tear;
Defects or damages caused by accessories, replacement parts or repair service other than those that have been authorised by Baccarat or Playcorp; or
Cosmetic damages that do not impair the function of the product (examples include but are not limited to scratches, water marks, cracks, dents, stains or discolouration to surfaces).
So.. unsure of what the lifetime guarantee actually covers
Second Google Result for Playcorp - Arcosteel
Arcosteel is the brand of knives being sold in Woolies.
Is it the quality that makes these a bad knives as I am currently using the masterchef free ones from Coles hahaha
Masterchef free ones from Coles are "Global" but made in china (I have used two, they're not bad for what they are)
I also don't recommend normal Global knives after (ones Made in Japan)
If I were you and happy with what you're using, stick with what you have.
This Baccarat set will not improve your quality of life, just burn your money away
Cheers OP - got for $53 with Cashrewards ;)
Note: Japanese steel, made in China.
RRP jacked proudly in Australia
Great deal..but no thanks.
Got it, just to test it out and see what they mean by lifetime guarantee, hope they mean it will stay sharp
Came here to bag out Baccarat, but lets be honest for $60 you'd struggle to beat this.
I mean they're no Global or Furi but at least this is a fair price.
I mean they're no Global or Furi but at least this is a fair price.
Mark Henry is now slinging cookware under the name Söliditi
Furi products only grew due to celebrity endorsements, just look at the HRC rating of the knives..
Global is a Japanese brand making Western-style knives.. I'd say at a lesser standard than other Japanese brands, but their global reach (no pun intended) is much bigger than most of the other brands
Baccarat got number 1 canstar blue rating on customer satisfaction with 5 stars on all categories in 2021. So, this brand should be not bad

And this set is currently on sale for at Robbin Kitchen (I just walked past this evening). I would say this deal is bargain. Unless you have a better deal says under $10 per knife

Managed to get it for $50 at the recent clearance sale.
Are they good or bad for the price from you thought
whats the life time guarantee include?? they will change when they go blunt ?
25 years free from defects in workmanship or materials or abnormal deterioration when used in accordance with our ‘’Care and Use Instructions’’ and normal domestic use during the Warranty Period.
Friends don't let friends buy Baccarat.
