Can you stack this with a lenovo education discount? Does anyone know what the discount is for teachers?
Unfortuantely no.
That sucks you couldn't stack it with Cashrewards, will an edu discount stack with MAYHEM23?
Oh wow, edu discount is actually not a discount in this case. It cost's $4,089 on the edu store.
Miss the old days where you can get an extra 1k off by going to chat
Is there any benefit in going to chat on the Lenovo site?
I had them down to $3700 for this model in chat, so it is still worth pushing them. I said I wasn't buying unless it got down to $3400 and they said they had to speak to their manager and never got back to me.
I ended up buying the HP Omen 17 with the 4090 from the EDU store when it came back in stock at the $3600 point, even though it had been cheaper as well. Using it now and I'm very happy.
3882 on lenovo pro store
7i Pro 13900/4080 has been hovering around $4k for months
Considering buying this.
Pretty sure this review is same model but with alternate screen option: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1XvizVI1sbA
Can someone confirm cashback of 12% is calculated as (4000 - 400 [GST] ) * 12% = $432 ???
Also if anyone who understands the market would like to predict the future for me, by answering the question: how long is the wait for a similar or better deal on a similar laptop?
Cheers :)
Just the issue with these laptops is they get so hot. I had the Asus ROG 501 $4500 with gtx1080, i7 8750h 16GB ram, thing was beast at the time, but only lasted me 3 years. Gpu i believe fried due to getting so hot all the time (Nothing i did could ever cool it down, repasted cpu, under volted and had vents under laptop).
I'm unsure with Lenovo how well their cooling systems are, but if it's anything like Asus, don't buy, just go Desktop instead.
3-4 years is roughly the expected life on a gaming laptop and temps approaching the 80's (Throttle kicks in at 87ish) on the gpu and getting towards the 90's (Throttle at 95ish) on the CPU is normal and within the limits for these.
Sure some will exceed that and some will fall short. The Lenovo has one of the best cooling systems in the class and buying a desktop instead just isn't possible for a lot of people looking for high performance laptops. If performance was all that wanted they'd buy a desktop, but some people need, or want, both power and some portability to go with it, or even just the space saving of a laptop over a desktop, monitor, keyboard and mouse makes it worthwhile for them if they can't allocate a dedicated space to the device.
As far as gaming/powerful laptops go, the one linked is one of the best picks on performance, cooling, build quality and price, especially if they can convince chat to knock another few hundred off or have the patience to last out the ~$3300 best price these have been moved at. On the quiet lowest power profile this almost beats that Asus you had and is not breaking a sweat.
HODL till the Legion 7i slim or 9i drops.
Already had one order cancelled in the last 12 months due to them selling stock they don't have. And apparently there are issues with frame time spikes. Hmmm. I want a new laptop but is this the one?
Been cheaper? https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/766764
