  • +1

    is this an atl?

    • +4
    • +1

What does atl mean….? (edit -im guessing "all time low") Is there a guide somewhere showing how to purchase from other steam countries? Those prices are nuts for Argentina/Turkey etc….

      • +7

"Australian-govt Takes Liberties" or "All Time Low"

      • +4

No, it's referencing Ozbargain's evil alter-ego Australian Thrifty Listings

  • Bought this maybe a year or so ago for 25ish dollars and I dont think ive had the chance to play it

    • I'm happy to play it for free for you if you like.

    • +1

Yeah I almost bought it but then tried to imagine myself playing it and it doesn't seem likely. I have a huge backlog of free games, and while I do play some 90s strategy games still (Settlers 2, Caesar 3, and Seven Kingdoms), a C&C game doesn't really feel like it would scratch the itch.

      • +1

I thought the same about Warcraft 2, but I played right through this year. These games never get old.
Gotta play Caesar 3 again or maybe Pharaoh, but definitely not silly Zeus.

        • Caesar 3 has had some recent fan mod which is basically a rebuild of the engine afaik, which allows zooming with the mouse wheel, modern resolutions, etc.

  • +5

I wonder if it looks as good now as it did on my 20” NEC CRT monitor back in 1995

    • +23

      20"??? moneybags over here…

      • Bought it second hand still expensive though

      • +1

I remember how 15 was standard, 17 was a nice option if you could splash, 19 was considered luxury, and 21 was for people with more money than sense…

        • +2

definitely, i remember upgrading from a 15 to a 17 was a glorious, glorious day

    • You baller.

  • +2

does this include C&C General / Zero hours?

    • +4

Unfortunately not - played those to death

  • +1

Is there any activity in the multiplayer? Is it ok or full of hackers? Thanks!

    • +1

Yes, Mostly on weekends or mid night AU.
      There’s no hack or cheat.

    • +1

A few on weekends. Mostly only play a few maps. I have heaps of fun

  • +1

    wish there was mac version

    • +3

they made command and conquer and red alert 3 for mac os I still have the discs, but support droped after they went to all 64 bit apps on mac os. So 32 bit apps no longer work on mac os. so yeah it sucks.

      • +6

        Macs suck for gaming period.

        • well actually it doesn't there just wasn't that much support for games on macOS. in fact alot of the Linux games were ported to run on MacOS because they both run on a Unix platform using WINE packaging. In reality if it works on linux it works on MacOS. Applications like Crossover for mac make this possiable for all games, as it does the WINE packaging of any windows based game. The good thing now however is that people that developed for iOS can easy support MacOS because it support the same silicon archtecture, so over night they have millions of games that are now supported on both iOS, ipad OS and Mac OS.

          • +1

@kungfuman: Lol. All Mac's had was Myst and Sim City

            • @Pootie Tang: they had way more than that you might wanna do you research in to how many Steam games were supported.

          • @kungfuman: Dude we know you love Apple but you need to be realistic…

            • @Punkboy: i am being realistic you need to do your research.

              • @kungfuman: I worked in apple retail before steam. I know what was available.

                • @Pootie Tang: clearly not if you all knew were 2 games. sooooo… no definitely not.

                  • @kungfuman: There was no steam at the time. Am I meant to rattle off every game I can remember? Dumb

    • +1

      Play via GeForce Now.

      • Could not get it to work on the NVIDIA shield, I suspect it's the Aussie reseller company/provider?

  • got the orginal phycial PC box remasted collection
    got it on steam
got it on origin so…. I am good lol.

    • saved me 4.49, already have it on Origin/EA Play too

Edit: but dont think its the remastered version.

  • +8

        No, that's not this game.

  • Yuri's Revenge is not on steam?

"Move towards more ideas that will actually help, ah, bring this thing to an end."

  • excited!

  • Included with EA play standard edition only

  • +1

    For King & Country.

  • +2

I love skirmish/base-building modes in C&C Generals etc., similar to the old Dune 2/2000 games, to go off-topic does anyone have any recommendations of more modern ones?

    • +1

Although a different era but AOE still is most likely the best current Base Building game with a simple destroy the other team objective.
AOE2 although old now is still extremely popular online too and they have a new expansion coming out

      • Thanks, will check them out. I see there’s even a 3 and 4, I have missed out!

        • +1

Pick between AOE2 DE or AOE IV DE these are the rather 2 most popular of the bunch.

    • WarCraft III: Reforged!

  • Are these good for Co-op play with the wife? I assume zero co-op for the story mode but multiplayer possibly?

    • +1

Have you never played C&C before? I used to play like 25 years ago with my friend and we would spend hours building up our base before attacking each other. Probably some of the funnest gaming times as a young teen. I wished my wife would be into this, I'd love to do that again with her!

      • +1

I used to play a loooong time ago. But I hoped they'd add in better multiplayer functions more in line with modern games. I assume you can still make teams in multiplayer and just play against the CPU.

        • +1

I think you can but not as fun with CPU. I think it was Age of Empires I used to do this with also, that was just as fun and haven't played the remasters which are on PC Gamepass so I should check them out.

      • +1

I shared a house with two international students. We built a LAN in expressly so we could play Command & Conquer.

3 players meant someone always got stabbed in the back as alliances were forged & then, sometimes, betrayed. It almost came to blows a couple of times, but we'd always play again.

        Great times!

        Edits: typos.

        • +2

We had a house of 6 at uni with a lan when red alert 2 was out. Such good memories of the boring player who just stockpiled and never left his base being turned on or ganged up on every single game so he wasn't the winner by being the only one who didn't have a wiped out army.

  • Just bought this and realised I have Gamepass Ultimate on PC and this is already included lol.. Oh well.

  • +2

    "I'm a mechanical, I'm a mechanical, I'm a mechanical man"

Haha, good times with C&C. This is a great remaster and should be an automatic buy at this price for any RTS fan.

    • +2

I just bought a mechanical 2TB drive, I blame your comment for putting me in mechanical mode

      • +2

        Hahahahahaha, sorry mate.

        • +1

All good. The soundtrack was great.

    • +1

      No! No! No! no mercy…

  • +7

They need to remaster c&c generals

    • yep!

  • +1

Remember playing skirmish on the Playstation version of Red Alert (system linking consoles FTW!). Didn't think much of the game, until I played as Russia and got access to the Nuke (of course Generals had the better animation that satiated my thirst for destruction).

Pickedup a mini C&C collection in the early 2000s. Got the first decade box set in the late 2000s. Pounced on this remaster during one of the first sales it was available. Played it a lot, and still load it up every few weeks.

  • -2

Free with EA play or Xbox game pass

  • Are these optimised for modern hardware? I remember playing massive deathmatches on Generals (different title I know) where the AI would eventually not cope with the amount of units on the battlemap, and they'd just stand there doing nothing. Was sad.

  • nearly buy, but for EA, not, never
EA banned my fifa23 account for cheat, but as an old man, I do not know how to cheat at all. never EA!!!!!!!!!

  • Is this just a remaster of the original c&c ? I had a look but can't see what other c&c games were included in this 'collection'.

    • +3

Its the first 2 games so the original + red alert.

  • Anyone played this on Nvidia shield

  • I miss Red Alert 2! Sadly, it is not possible to play via Steam or even buy in EA store. There is an emulator online to play Red Alert 2 I think!

    • I'm pretty sure you can get it via the Command & Conquer The Ultimate Collection on the EA Store.

  • +1

So good, bought last sale. Have 76 hours so far. Fun. Strategy games where much harder back in the day.

  • If you buy on Steam, does it bypass the awful EA app, or is it like Gamepass where it still has to happen via EA Play (which is constantly logging me out and making me type in username and password EVERY TIME)

  • I'm hoping that EA remasters Red Alert 2 next!
