Best Value PC for Basic Live-Streaming (Budget $600)

Hi All,

I need to buy a PC for live-streaming. It is fairly basic stuff - Sony ZV-E10 connected via USB-C streaming via Restream (browser-based) onto YouTube, Facebook and Twitch.

Most PC's will be fine but the nice to have features would be;

  • High speed USB-C (preferably powered)
  • Very good Wi-Fi preferred
  • Reasonably quiet / cool
  • Bluetooth

We only need the desktop itself, no accessories required. Ideally would like to spend around $600 but if more is required then can spend it.

One of the guys is using this laptop pretty successfully to stream so we don't need anything OTT but want to get the best bang for buck.

You need to think about capture cards if streaming games from consoles is on the cards.

It is not, it is live-streaming direct from the camera. Think vlogging.

Most low-mid range laptops or PC will be sufficient for OnlyFans.

    • Absolutely a relative comparison but not quite - I know mid-range PCs will do the job but I'm looking for advice on bang for buck

Any of the machines here with a gen 8 i5 and 16gb ram should be more than enough

I say 8th gen because they will run windows 11 extending the life of the machine a couple of years. There are also touchscreens which might be handy for your application in that you may be able to set up control panels for some functions.

  • Yep, a "refurbished" ex-government/corporate desktop should be fine - and doable with a budget much less than $600.

As for the USB-C, that is not a huge issue - if it has USB 3.1 outlets then a $10 ebay adapter will convert that to USB-C and be fast enough for streaming (the adapter will work with earlier USB versions but speed for streaming might be an issue). Or if it has HDMI then it'll cost about $60 for a HDMI to USB C converter (be careful not to get a USB-C to HDMI adapter - they don't work in reverse). Most refurbished machines will have either USB 3.1 or HDMI or both.

But why on earth would you not just get a $50 Chromecast rather than all this fuss? Then just download the Youtube, Facebook and Twitch apps from the Play Store.

    • You've mistaken me, I'm the one live-streaming not watching live-streams.

Tad overbudget, but low cost building in Australia is a bitch even without a GPU. For that purpose you could probably get away with a laptop or a cheap SFF, but I'm going for cool and quiet here. The CPU has Intel Quicksync Video, so you can encode the stream without using any CPU power, which contribute a lot to keeping the fans off. You can save another $40 dropping to 16gb RAM.
