8x AA Eneloop Rechargeable Glitter Batteries at DSE $19.99 + Postage

1160

Here we go again folks, the Glitter Eneloops that so many seem to love are on special once more!

Home delivery ONLY, no click and collect. Postage looks to be $4.95, maybe more if you're out in the sticks, just enter your postcode to find out before you order.

Copied from the website and edited a bit so it actually makes sense:

Just like the classic Eneloop, the Eneloop Glitter batteries get pre-charged at the Japanese factory with power generated from solar energy. For this reason, the batteries are ready to use directly after being purchased. Thanks to their Low Self Discharge (LSD), Eneloop batteries keep approximately 75% of their initial charge even after 3 years of storage. Like Eneloop, Eneloop Glitter can be recharged up to 1500 times. The batteries have a nominal voltage of 1.2V and a rated capacity of 2000mAh.

Additionally the limited edition packs include batteries in 8 different glitter colors: purple, pink, orange, yellow, light green, light blue, silver and black, which enables users to pick colors according to their taste or to use colors to remember which batteries are charged and which ones need to be recharged.

  • If you're after a charger, check this deal - http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/75843

It's a good charger, but a tad expensive. The cheaper 700 is out of stock at present but keep an eye on it, could come back in stock any time.

    • the one at DSE doesn't seems to bad either at $19.95 with 4 batteries. since you are already paying shipping.
      http://dicksmith.com.au/product/S4403/standard-charger-with-…

      • Noticed that, it would certainly do the job but it's not a "smart" charger like the La Crosse or Maha.

        • A charger that charges is fine, i dont quite get this "smart" charger stuff. thanks for the post, I've been waiting out for this for awhile.

        • +6

a dumb charger can harm your batteries by overcharging. sure it will work, and will probably be fine for a lot of people…but they won't get the best out of your batteries in the long run.

        • +2

Agreed, older style brute force chargers that don't switch off or go to trickle mode when the cell is full can significantly shorten the life of a NiMH cell in no time, smart chargers are definitely the go these days.

I've got an older charger here that made the batteries so hot when they were charging, the plastic coating peeled off a couple one day. Thankfully they weren't my Eneloops or anything I cared too much about.

        • I must be asking a stupid question here but is there anything wrong with the charger that comes with eneloops? Is it not a "smart" charger??

        • Depends which package. The one linked above isn't. The 2 slot usb one dse had on sale ages back is. So really just depends…

bottom line is, just because it's a packaged eneloop charger doesn't mean anything…you have to check what sort of charging termination method it uses.

        • Theres not much dumb charger out there that can overcharge. Standard chargers these days would cut-off once filled up. So they are totally fine. What I gather is that these "smart" chargers can cycle which are good for them. Thats all. I really can't recall seeing a cheap charger that allows overcharging.

      • This one is good for a cheap delta V charger.
        http://dicksmith.com.au/product/S4452/varta-lcd-charger-with…

Also, I purchased these(the glitter eneloops) a while back with a friend who needed batteries too, we got 4 sets and split them up so we each got 4 sets of 4 colours. Very handy if you lose track of which batteries need charging!

    • 700 is showing as in stock to me now

      • Shipping this item to your default address may require an additional 2 to 3 weeks to process.

I take this as meaning it's not physically in stock even though it says it is. They're probably trying to get stock ASAP which is why I said to keep an eye on it, status could change any moment.

When I posted the BC-1000 deal, it came in and out of stock many times, the numbers available were up and down like a 90's whitehouse intern.

        • +1

I need an intern, not batteries.

      • Price has gone back up though :(

    • would you call this a better deal ?? :S

      http://dicksmith.com.au/product/XGGLITTERWEB/

foo pls add this link in the desc also, so people don't make dupe posts…

      • I saw that first which led me to the cheap eneloops. $20 bucks extra for four 4GB cards isn't a bargain, not even close.

Last time I got 4GB cards, I think it cost me $5 for three including delivery.

      • +1

Yep not a good deal for small shitty SD cards

    • +2

its exactly the same as this deal- http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/75126

    • +3

they were $20 delivered a couple times, but have been $20+postage every time for the last 20 billion times.

    • I can't see them cheaper anywhere, including from OS on EBAY

    • Thanks, geek7899 - more for us!

      • -6

        Be my guest.
I'll wait till they are the price I have bought for in the past.

        • +1

Are you still refusing to fill up your car with petrol until it goes back to the price you bought it for in the past too?

        • +4

Aren't the glitters supposed to be "limited edition"? If you wait around they might end up not being available any more (although probably replaced by a regular edition 8-pack if you're not fussed about the colour).

        • -2

I have a few spare eneloops lying around. So not in a dire need straight away.
Unfortunately I don't have spare reserves of petrol at my home. So have to buy when I run out.

Do a more sensible comparison next time.

        • +1

Maybe you should heed your own advice of being sensible. These are a good price. Perhaps you'd like to provide a link for somewhere that sells them cheaper than the current bargain being offered? The one you're "holding out for" hasn't been done for a very long time and likely won't be again, given that these sell like hotcakes at the current bargain price.

  • Shame they're only 2000mah, Sanyo have released 2700mah.

    • In the Eneloop range?

    • I've got some black AA Eneloops rated at 2500mah. They are good for 500 recharges. Not sure if there are any 2700mah Eneloops available yet.

    • +2

The 2700mah batteries aren't Low Self Discharge, so they'll run down their charge fairly quickly by themselves.

Sanyo have an Eneloop Pro range which is 2500mah, but they're only rated to be recharged around 500 times. Plus their shelf life isn't as good as regular Eneloop batteries.

This Eneloop battery may only be 2000mah, but it can be recharged roughly 1500 times, and has a much better shelf life than the above two. It's a much better allround battery.

      • +4

Where's the kaboom? There was supposed to be an earth-shattering kaboom!

        • +1

You'll need cheap 16850's for that dude! ;)

      • "only" 500. Granted when I see that compared to the 1500 of these it looks bad, but when I think about it I can't see myself ever charging any battery 500 times before I lose it or something.

  • comn man give us some AAA's

  • Good deal, even with the delivery cost. thanks!

  • There is also a bundle with 4x4gb memory cards

By April 2012, parent company Panasonic plans to terminate the Sanyo brand, however it will remain on some of the products where the Sanyo brand still holds value to consumers

    Start buying Panasonic batteries

    • You mean Panasonic Eneloops?

      • +1

i think they are called something else not eneloops, i think "evolta". I have seen Panasonic with higher capacity too.

        • -1

This is not a bargain anymore, as they seem to be stagnant @ $19.99+P/H, nevertheless they are the best/cheapest around so +ve…

    • There are have been Panasonic Evoltas around for a while now (12 months?) and they are more or less the same as the Eneloops. There is no reason to stop buying Eneloops and "start buying Panasonic batteries" as the Eneloops are still obviously excellent quality and are can be charged on any NiMH charger.

      • You're implying (perhaps inadvertently) that NiMH Evoltas have to be charged in a special Panasonic charger, which isn't true.

        • Oops, it did sound like I was saying that - but that's not what I meant. Both Evoltas and Eneloops can be charged with any charger.

      • made in the same company! as panasonic owns sanyo

        • I'm aware of this. I'm just saying there is no reason to stop buying Eneloops. It's not like you have to worry about a lack of post-purchase support if the Sanyo brand is phased out. It's a battery. And a good quality one at that. And obviously most importantly - glittery.

      • Evoltas sadly are not more or less the same as Eneloops. In a recent Choice mag rechargeable battery test the differences in performance of the LSD batts were shocking. Eneloops were WAY at the top. Evoltas were dead last.
Panasonic has a pretty unusual policy (in the corporate world) of largely letting their subsidiaries do their own thang. JVC is a keen case in point.
I don't think any of us should be buying Evoltas until we're damn sure they've become Eneloops under the skin.

  • Here we go again :( and everytimes this happened, Amazon lacrosse charger ran out of stock.

  • Finally ordered the Lacrosse BC1000 from foobar's comment at top.
    Really low price (camelcamelcamel.com) !

lets see how we go with the existing eneloops

EDIT: And strangely, the Amazon currency converter says US$ 56.41 and AU$ 55.78
First time I have seen the Currency Converter show a lesser AU value !

    • You might want to check out my comments re Amazon FX:
      http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/77318#comment-987248

      • Thanks for that.
The Au price was on par with the Aussie price. I doubt my credit card would have done heaps better. So I took the plunge and paid in AU dollars.
Mind you this only happened with my Mastercard. I selected the option of paying with my AMEX, it wouldn't give me the AU price.

        • I meant "The US price was on par with the Aussie price."
          Wouldn't let me edit it.

  • +1

Essential batteries for contestants of 'I will Survive'.

  • Great price!
    Got one last time.

  • Nice, got them :)

  • +1

how many cycles do these batteries take until they have 50% of their original life? approx. from user experience.

    • That's how Sanyo determine the cycle lifespan. They're saying that Eneloops can withstand 1500 full charge/discharge cycles before capacity deteriorates to 50%.

I wish you all the best in finding some sort of third-party verification of this however. I'm not saying it's bullshit, just that it's unlikely that anyone has properly documented a large enough number of cycles.

      • +1

It's the internet, of course there's something:

        http://www.stefanv.com/electronics/sanyo_eneloop.html
Close, but not longer term. But the trend is fairly clear - actual performance is on spec with what Sanyo says.

        http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:dlzdGn0…
Google cache link because the actual site seems to be down.
        Crazy - relevant quote:

"From the graph, even eneloop drop about 50% of capacity after 300 cycles.
The charge and discharge rates in that graph are 1C (2000 mA), which is harder on the cells than what most people do; 1000 mA charge, 500 mA discharge."

        • Thanks for the that.

This is actually more useful than Sanyo's numbers because I charge at 1C quite often (and a minumum of 0.5C when I'm not in a hurry). I also use some of my cells in high current devices where they are often putting out 500mA or more).

So what it tells us is that we can push Eneloops really hard for 200 cycles without any appreciable loss in capacity, and I am more than satisfied with that.

        • hey man i asked the question! THANK YOU INTERNET

  • Are they having problems with payment system? I cant seem to pay. That or theyve set limits as the script is erroring out for me…

  • Why eneloops so popular?

Any 14500 you can recommend - prefer quality over cheap price

    • Low self discharge brother! Not many around.

      I like the Sanyo UR14500P.

If you have a AA light, best to use 14500's. Huge difference compared to AA's.

      • Yeah, well, sure, sometimes. But anyone who is reading this should realize that you can't just go putting 3.7v batteries in devices that are designed for 1.2v (or 1.5v) batteries.

        • Whoops! Only use it if an AA size device supports it was what I should have said.

  • Need a charger? - the BC-700 deal appears to be back on, sort of.

    See my comment at: http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/77318#comment-990435

  • Aargh…must…not…buy….damn DSE for tempting me! I've have 2 packs already from previous deals.

    • People seem to luurrrve the glitter packs! If Sanyo changed their standard white to colourful ones, sales would shoot through the roof!

  • ha.. didnt take long, mine just arrived.. metro brisbane

  • Just a note that the page now says "Offer ends 17/08/2012 [Today], while stocks last or unless otherwise stated." which I'm pretty sure wasn't listed when the deal first went up.

    • I don't see that for the batteries alone, just the batteries and memory card "deal" at $40. Unless I'm blind :)

      • In the overview tab it looks like it might be talking about the SD card bundle I agree, it's a bit confusing. Both pages list that expiry info so I assume it's for both the naked batteries + bundle.

Also I don't know what that Sony logo is doing on the bundle page…

        • +1

I thought that was just for the bundle at first but I can see how that could apply to both. I won't set the expiry date but I will check early tomorrow and if expired, mark it as such unless a mod does first.

The last time these came on sale, it was for a good span of time, close to 2 weeks I think. Hopefully it runs longer than 2 days.

        • I looked again and decided that the expiration was probably for the batteries as well, so I set this deal to expire. Checking this morning, the ad for the bundle is gone along with the expiry date and this $20 deal is still active - but marked as expired. Awww crap.

I've asked the mods to un-expire it for me, will just keep an eye on the price and expire when the special ends.

Hah, I've just checked the bundle and even though it has expired, it's still the same price for the batteries + sd cards. What a deal that was, save $0.00.

        • Yeah they changed it, it's currently on the home page as being until 20/8 (unless they change their minds again…)

  • Thanks foobar, I grabbed a pack last night.

  • Another Eneloop deal, another 2x packs purchased, yay for OzBargain!!

  • its back on stock . just got another batch. great backup

  • +2

If you want a good laugh, click the link to the eneloop / sd card combo now they are off special.
