  • Any good deals to switch away from EnergyAustralia?

    • +8

I called em to complain that my rates were even higher than their own standard plans and they had sneakily upped them. I quoted simply energy rates as comparison. The agent transferred me to the retention team, gave me almost similar discounts and then gave me $100 for each gas and electricity accounts to keep me with em. Then she told me to call back after the new budget for any other incentives. Try doing that.

      • I locked my rate last year and they increased it the next quarter anyway haha.

Online chat couldnt give me a reason as to why.

They refunded me the incorrect amount.

Ill be looking to open an account elsewhere once my locked period ends

  • @TA when does this cashback rate end?

    • +1

Says it when you click the link.

      “Expires: May 15, 2023, 11:59:00 PM”

  • New home construction user here….builder has asked me to setup the GAS account. Do you think this cashreward will work for me?
PS ; There was no gas connection at site before.

      Ditch gas
Install solar and go full electric as above

Thank me in 10 years with the savings you have made

      • Is this the way to go now? We have gas for cooking and hot water system. Supply charge is high. But I am used to cooking with gas.

        • +3

          Induction heaps better than gas

        • I use 320ltr hot water system heated up with solar and an induction hob.
Induction cooking is super fast (faster than gas) and economical.

        • 100%
Gas used to be a waste product, which is why it was so cheap. But ever since they figured out the export side of it, the price has exploded and it's no longer economical.
Plus burning gas inside releases lots of toxic particles that trigger asthma. And the ovens, by virtue of needing to be flued, consume more energy.
Add that all together and gas has had its day.

One thing they aren't great at though is wok cooking. If you need that, your better to stick with gas. But there's no reason you can't compromise, and switch to electric for 90%, and use bottled gas for things like woks. Its a roundabout way of doing it, but at $350 a year just to stay connected to the gas network, the savings stack up

I prefer gas as it burns cleaner than coal.

        • Nuclear energy - best form of energy known to man and yet for some reason they would rather not use it, I am now having to pay almost double for utilities right now.

          • +1

@Gervais fanboy: Cheers for putting your hand up for used fuel rods/ waste…Whats your address?

Nuclear would be brilliant…if its decay to safe levels didnt take longer than Humans have walked the Earth. We cant do anything right, and trucking waste through Aussie roads..we will balls it up. We already dont know what to do with waste from the medical reactor, and the 'subs' (Kimba said get stuffed)…as did the 20 towns and 800kms of road users it needs to travel along to get there.

The sun is the only nuclear reactor we need, just harness all the byproducts properly (tide, wind, wave, solar, hydro etc etc).

            • -1

              @tunzafun001: Wow, you’re a live one.

Anyways, to your point, there’s industry recognised procedures to store that waste and many countries are already successfully doing that.
Even proportionately speaking, nuclear energy harvesting for power is way safer and has taken way way less human lives than most other power setups.

    • It might take awhile to get connected, but it's worth a try.

As a side note what are you using gas for?

    • +1

Consider the Health Risks of Gas Stoves

"New York State has become the first to pass a law banning gas stoves and other gas-powered appliances in new buildings.. The move is intended to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, but gas stoves also pose health risks"

Recent research conducted into gas cooking in Australian homes - "It's not clean for the climate and it's not clean for your health."

      • -2

As a scientist, I call BS on most of the alarmist garbage spewed by so called experts. Cherry picking old news.
Newer gas cooktops are not gonna kill ya if you use them correctly and keep them clean.

ALL cooktops (gas, electric and induction) create way more harmful volatiles & irritantst than just burning clean gas. The solution to everything is VENTILATION. A good rangehood, open a door or window, open plan house.

Even though I know gas is not the enemy, my next cooktop will be induction. Simply for the super low heat settings, like my electric oven. Love really slow cooked meat and casseroles.

          As a scientist,

Pretty closed minded for a "scientist".
(Never known other Scientists I've worked along side to ever refer to themselves as a scientist!)

So you're a scientist working in what Scientific field & research experience?
Your expertise in this field to challenge your "so called experts"??

You read the Scientific American review by the senior editor at Scientific American (health and medicine), that I linked?
Contact Scientific American with your rebuttal, As a scientist!

And yes, ventilation (not just when cooking!) is recommended.
But the US research found methane was released even when the stove was turned off!

That's why the current Stanford University - Melbourne University research collaboration here is important. To add to the research findings - to help make informed decisions.

          • -2

@INFIDEL: So I don't believe what you do, I'm closed minded? Sounds like the woke/alphabet brigade all over again.

Most of the "claims" have been de-bunked or totally watered down. The evil while off stuff is just crap & only for a tiny sample of old appliances and only a tiny emission. What about the induction causes cancer research? That's also total BS.

Believe what you want, I don't care. Gas cooktops are so low on the bad o meter, not worth worrying about.

Time for some red wine. NCBIB.

            • +3

              @BBF:

Sounds like the woke/alphabet brigade all over again.

Very closed minded for a so called "scientist"!
(Never met a Scientist so coy about their field of expertise!)

Most of the "claims" have been de-bunked or totally watered

Back up your claim with references / Links!
A basic aspect of scientific debate.
The study in Melbourne is ongoing.

              Time for some red wine.

Seems like you've had enough already🍷!!

I simply suggested - consider the health implications of installing gas appliances. May be important for some.

            • +1

              @BBF:

              So I don't believe what you do…

              Seems wise🤔

A recurrent theme on the internet is…
If you have no basis for a claim, assert you have the authority to make it (without any proof of that authority)!

So an unverified "Nigerian Prince" wants our help in return for riches. (Just send the money fool!)
              Or
I'm a gorgeous 18yo (see my definitely not fake photo) who's dying to be with you tonight…
              Or
              "As a scientist,"
Justifying claims lacking any verification, based solely on a claimed authority as a scientist in an unknown & possibly unrelated field of expertise (an unverified claim)…

As you put it, I call BS - without providing any evidence!

No Scientist in their right mind, would accept data / claims lacking any factual support, based on just "trust me, I'm a scientist!"

I used to assess research papers in Science written by postgrads, with more proof for their argument than you gave - correctly rejecting them!
(Won't verify that - if you are a Scientist, you should understand!)

Waiting on the verification (links) for your claims. Happy to assess the evidence.

          • +1

            @INFIDEL: I am a scientist …… in philosophy

        • Those pesky scientists doing research, setting up experiments, measuring and collecting data, then drawing conclusions and publishing them to be reviewed by their equally shit peers.

Why do we need them when we have our own resident self-proclaimed "as a scientist", with such an amazing reputation they can skip the scientific method and jump straight to the conclusion, saving us all time and money!

All hail BBF, the one and only true expert.

How long do we need to stay connected for the cashback?

    • -1

      It says ‘Upto 180 days’

In my experience - no more than 2-3 months.

      • +2

…180d is the delay before we receive cashback.
Not the time required to remain an Energy Australia customer to be eligible for this offer!

Without that vital info, this is an uncertain Deal.
        Plus Expires: May 15, 2023, 1:59:00 PM!!

I regularly switch retailers every 2+ months to qualify for other offers of gift cards etc in Deals here. Always received the promised offer.

        • +1

          I understand

I pretty much said the same thing. In my experience, my cashback normally always gets approved within 2-3 months and I switch right away.

          • +1

            @Gervais fanboy: Yes, just clarified
            (Someone else negged.)

Is your experience with this type of En Aust Deal?
CR offers are usually through Econnex.

I sign up directly with Econnex etc, switching retailers every 2+ months.

            • @INFIDEL: Yes, I always switch away and then back to Energy Australia.
They are my preferred company to be with, they are negotiable with their rates and also give $50-$100 off the first bill.

I make sure to use this rare $250 promotion or the ShopBack $171 promotion (via econnex too I think)

              • +1

                @Gervais fanboy: Thanks.
Recently switched with Econnex, so will lose that $100 in gift cards if switched in this Deal.
En Aust is dearer for me.

              • +1

@Gervais fanboy: i churned energy australia a bunch of times and now they refuse to let me sign up again
