Samsung 970 EVO Plus 1TB 3500MB/s NVMe M.2 SSD $79 + Delivery ($0 C&C at Rowville, VIC) @ PC Case Gear

170

Another one of these deals at PC Case Gear. if the Scorptec/JW Computers one runs out.

Maybe worth looking at if:

  • Rowville pickup is convienient for you (compared to the multiple Scorptec shops)
  • You're looking to buy other parts from PC Case Gear

Shipping is about $15 to Melbourne Metro (Standard & Express).

Sadly not as good as the $69 deal that just sold out in store.

Edit: Better deal here if you need it shipped

Centrecom is selling the same one with free shipping here, credits to @O O

Need a deal on the 2tb, $249 is steeeep!

  • Is this good for ps5?

    • +3

Nah won't work. Need a PCIe 4.0 SSD and this is PCIe 3.0.
The PS5 does a check to see if it's 4.0 compliant.

  • Ok I have been waiting for a long time now can’t find a good deal yet

Centre Com offer free shipping for the same deal.

    • Now that's a good deal! Will update description to include

just a *note, free shipping isn't Australia wide.

    • Centre Com changes their strategy now, lowers the price to $78 and removes free shipping.

Why would anyone pay current-gen prices for last-gen tech? For the same price you get 2x read/write and an extra 400TBW: https://www.bpctech.com.au/product/lnm790x001t-rnnng-lexar-i…

    • Yep i ordered 1 of the Lexar 2 days ago looks promising but the benchmark tests are a bit off for top gaming performance but i don't game anyway so this should do the trick with double the read/write is good for me .

    • Not that exact model but Lexar SSDs tend to be shit: https://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/lexar-professional-nm70…

High speed for a few seconds and then drops like a stone.

      • Like you said, wrong model, wrong generation.

Lexar Gen 4 drives are very decent, completely different beast, using the same InnoGrit IG5236 found on many high-end drives. Still worse than flagship Gen 4 drives, but 90% of the performance for 40% of the price is a category killer:

        https://www.guru3d.com/articles_pages/lexar_nm800_pro_m_2_nv…

Also you should really avoid using tomshardware for reviews, ever since they went public around 2019 and took on more paid sponsorships, their scores have been based on how much they're being paid not by the actual quality of the product. Same goes for anandtech, who were bought by the tomshardware parent group

        • I don't pay any attention to TH's scores, only the benchmarks. The drive you linked is the NM800 not NM790, and it's the 2TB model. And it has the same big drop in speed after the cache is exhausted as all other Lexar SSDs. There are many similar low priced SSDs on the market with the same inconsistent performance.

          • @umexcuseme: It's HMB, of course it's among the worst performing Gen 4 drives, but it's still a proper Gen 4 drive at Gen 3 prices

Is there a drive with better read speeds for anything close to this price on the market?

  • is it really a deal? Everyone seems to be selling for that price

  • If you're looking for something for the PS5 I came across this deal today 42% off Seagate FireCuda 530 2TB $349

  • Are these a good option for a caching drive on a NAS?

    • Yeah they make a decent caching drives for the money. The down sides are:
      * The performance will tank when the cache drive fills up (42GB, if you're transfering larger files than this, look elsewhere)
      * It uses TLC NAND (people say SLC is better for caching)
      * Kind of low endurance @ 0.3 DWPD .

That said it does come with a 5 year / 600TB Write warranty, and they're known for reliabilit, so depends how hard you hit your NAS.

I was going to get one for my NAS but managed to pickup a second hand Intel Optane for the high endurance and IOPS. These things will never die
