FAQ thanks to BG

Question Answer
1. Is Boost operated by Telstra network? Yes, on the full Telstra network
2. Does Boost support 5G? Yes, for all Boost prepaid customers and it is currently on trial until 3 April 2023
From 4 April 2023, 5G network access will be included as standard on your service and we’ll be introducing capped download speed caps on our 4G and 5G networks
3. Does Boost support e-SIM? Sadly not at this stage. However there are plans to do so
4. Do you have to activate the SIM within 30 days? Every Cashrewards Boost cashback up to and including Feb 28 has been approved (confirmed by TA) - provided you activated within 30 days of order
5. How long is the SIM expiry? Usually 1 year, but to qualify for cashback the SIM must be activated within 30 days of ordering
6. It is showing “new customer” on Boost website. What does this mean? New customer term is only for the additional Boost data, and nothing to do with the cashback offer
7. Can I receive international text message (aka int. roaming) with this SIM by default? Yes, you can receive SMS while overseas, but can’t send outgoing to Australia
8. How long does it take to receive the SIM? According to the Boost Rep: Once dispatched, you should receive your order within the following business days: Metro Areas – 2-5 business days for capital cities – Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Perth, Canberra, Darwin, Hobart & Brisbane (order before 4pm). Non Metro or Regional / remote areas – 3-7 business days
9. Is porting in a Telstra number to Boost considered a "new customer"? From Boost Mobile rep via dm: Porting a number from Telstra to Boost is definitely considered a new customer
10. Are you able to purchase multiple plans using different names / ID (or can I purchase 4 x plans for the family using my own details)? From Boost Mobile rep via dm: Received clarification from the team and this is a tricky one since for compliance the terms is showing the customer is only allowed 1 sim per transaction but he can buy multiple SIMs and then activate them all under his name and he will then be able to manage all the numbers when he logs into the App with his Boost ID.
11. Information on what to do when the "please try again later" message comes up List of indicators that can affect how your order is flagged in different financial systems, which can hopefully help you understand what is going wrong
12. Can this be used to recharge? No, this is a starter pack. But you can ask a CSR to use the starter kit as a recharge. I think technically the service is activated on a new number and then your existing number/account is migrated across. The outcome is basically the same. Voicemail greeting needs to be recorded again.

Enjoy!

This is better value than the Coles deals IMO (with cashback). About same $/GB but much better coverage.
    $/GB, Coles vs Boost,
    $0.99/GB
    $1.07/GB
and if I'm not mistaken, Boost has access to 5G?

    • +1

      Boost has full Telstra 5G

When Telstra isn't having a 12-hour outage that is.

  • activate within 30Days of ordering? Is day 1 the day we purchase/day it's shows on CR/day the SIM is delivered?

  • +1

SIM must be activated within 30 days of ordering.

This may be harder than it sounds. I ordered one almost two weeks ago and it hasn't even shipped yet.

    • I'd be following that up. They usually ship within 48 hours and can give you a tracking number.

    • i had the same problem but turns out they didnt give me a tracking number. the item just arrives in my mailbox within 2-3 days

      • Yeah I just found that mine arrived today. Never got any tracking number.

        • Yup, they just leave it in your mailbox.. So much for tracking number and ID check required on receipt of the item..

          • @Truck-kun: Tbh I'm glad of that as they refuse to send to a PO Box and no-one is ever home at my place during the day so I'm more than happy it gets put in my locked letterbox rather than me having to go down to the Post Office during office hours and sign for it.

            • @wavesgreen: Yeah true. sometimes when you are working whole week 8-5, its really difficult to be around. Very troublesome. totally feel you

              • @Truck-kun: Especially when my local Post Office is open 9-5 M-F, and Saturday mornings only.

  • Anyone used one of these in a router to replace their normal internet or NBN? If so what routers work for this?

      140GB for a whole year? Wow…
It might be worth looking at Felix's unlimited $35/mth plan.

      • It's slightly less hassle than sim slutting every month for free/profit, but shuttling between say Mate and Felix and the like for their various 2/3 months deals can work out pretty cheap. $1/3 months with Mate, $17.50 per month with felix. Probably set you back around $140-$150 for a year, with unlimited data for most of it.

  • Catch connect is $109 and coles is $119? How is this any better ?

    • Catch Connect and Coles use Optus. Boost uses full Telstra.

A lot of people still rely on Telstra for service, especially in regional/rural/remote but even sometimes in metro areas. Used to be with Catch and was absolutely worth the little bit extra for me on Boost.

      • I won't be relying on any Telstra resellers after the massive outage Telstra inflicted on us today.

        • Technically Boost is the only other telco you can get full Telstra with so not entirely sure I'd bunch them in with Belong and all the other "Telstra reseller network".

Also I was travelling a bit today and it seemed the outage was very location specific. My place reception was fine but literally 500m away it was SOS mode. Strangest outage ever, kept going in and out of service.

          • @pennypincher98: If Telstra goes down, Boost goes down.

Yeah and eventhough Telstra reckon the outage is resolved, there's still people (seems to mainly be QLD) saying they can't make calls / use internet.

Thanks to the outage (according to Boost) I'm on hour 20 waiting for my latest activation to go through.

            • @wavesgreen: Tbf you can't really win no matter who you're with lol even with TPG and Voda merging they're still shit so the duopoly continues.

              • @pennypincher98: Interestingly despite TPG being the worst hellfire provider it's ever been my misfortune to deal with, I've had excellent service with both Vodafone and felix. In fact I'm doing everything I can to try and get back on felix long term after their free monthly trial.

                • @wavesgreen: Okay Vodafone is good for if you never leave metro city area but it seems to have the worst coverage in every other area. Granted I haven't tried them for over a year so they might be better now but not going to bother tbh.

Felix would be a good home modem if you didn't mind the 20mbps cap.

To me, I've had 300 days of better service and 1 day of worse service so I'll take that.

                  • @pennypincher98: YMMV of course but pound-for-pound I've had more downtime on the Telstra network than with any other. I wouldn't even be with Boost if it wasn't for the free/profit sims I find their uptime so sketchy.

    • Unlimited calling to a few international countries.

    • works with Telstra
Coles coverage really deteriorated by time for me!

Damn, bought last night at the top, im dead

Please hand in your Ozbargain membership and exit quietly out.

  • Any suggestion on which sim card should we migrate to? Is Voda $2 the best option or any other options that we can get profit?

    • I was looking at the $2 Telstra sim at office works. Need to port out and back in

      • +1

How can you do that with a $2 SIM? Isn't it a requirement to select a plan (e.g. $30 prepaid) when activating it?

        • +1

I was looking at this. I thought it read you can activate the service with it and then “top up” https://www.officeworks.com.au/shop/officeworks/p/telstra-2-…

          • @iShibby: It's pay as you go, but my understanding is that you'd need to choose which plan you want on activation. And naturally a form of payment for the selected plan.

Would be handy to know. If my understanding is correct, it'd be better to get the $30 Telstra sim currently on special for $15.

            • @wizzlesticks: I’m going to try option 12 above first to see if I get lucky. They may just let me use the starter pack to recharge. Comments have said this will be treated like a new activation so the cash rewards tracks

I just clicked the old link to buy it with $20 cashback and it had expired 😞

I then find this link with $23! Result! Thanks OP

Why not provide the same incentive for ongoing loyal customers.
We like to stay with boost, but don’t want to port out and in. Just give the same discount/cash back offer for RECHARGE .

Wonder when this will happen .

Saves everyone the hassle of porting. Less man power from the teleco too

    • +1

Telecos do not care for loyalty

Numbers for retention are far less important to these companies than numbers of new sign-ups.

  • Dang I bought just this morning for $20 cashback. Shoud have waited 12 more hours!

  • Cheers, meant to buy with $20 cashback yesterday, but forgot!

  • I ordered one last week and it hasn't arrived yet

  • +1

Cannot make any purchase for 20 mins…… Faulty website system

    • +1

Same with me, tried over 3 days same error.

  • hi all, just wondering if any1 has a "real" experience of getting the cashback approved activating the new starter pack but on an existing number? thanks in advance.
