Question Answer
1. Is Boost operated by Telstra network? Yes, on the full Telstra network
2. Does Boost support 5G? Yes, for all Boost prepaid customers and it is currently on trial until 3 April 2023
From 4 April 2023, 5G network access will be included as standard on your service and we’ll be introducing capped download speed caps on our 4G and 5G networks
3. Does Boost support e-SIM? Sadly not at this stage. However there are plans to do so
4. Do you have to activate the SIM within 30 days? Every Cashrewards Boost cashback up to and including Feb 28 has been approved (confirmed by TA) - provided you activated within 30 days of order
5. How long is the SIM expiry? Usually 1 year, but to qualify for cashback the SIM must be activated within 30 days of ordering
6. It is showing “new customer” on Boost website. What does this mean? New customer term is only for the additional Boost data, and nothing to do with the cashback offer
7. Can I receive international text message (aka int. roaming) with this SIM by default? Yes, you can receive SMS while overseas, but can’t send outgoing to Australia
8. How long does it take to receive the SIM? According to the Boost Rep: Once dispatched, you should receive your order within the following business days: Metro Areas – 2-5 business days for capital cities – Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Perth, Canberra, Darwin, Hobart & Brisbane (order before 4pm). Non Metro or Regional / remote areas – 3-7 business days
9. Is porting in a Telstra number to Boost considered a "new customer"? From Boost Mobile rep via dm: Porting a number from Telstra to Boost is definitely considered a new customer
10. Are you able to purchase multiple plans using different names / ID (or can I purchase 4 x plans for the family using my own details)? From Boost Mobile rep via dm: Received clarification from the team and this is a tricky one since for compliance the terms is showing the customer is only allowed 1 sim per transaction but he can buy multiple SIMs and then activate them all under his name and he will then be able to manage all the numbers when he logs into the App with his Boost ID.
11. Information on what to do when the "please try again later" message comes up List of indicators that can affect how your order is flagged in different financial systems, which can hopefully help you understand what is going wrong
12. Can this be used to recharge? No, this is a starter pack. But you can ask a CSR to use the starter kit as a recharge. I think technically the service is activated on a new number and then your existing number/account is migrated across. The outcome is basically the same. Voicemail greeting needs to be recorded again.

Enjoy!

  • Can I receive international text message (aka int. roaming) with this SIM by default? - The comment you tagged was from last year.

My wife is currently overseas and she is not receiving incoming SMS. Not sure if Boost has changed the way it works or some tech issue

    Message from Boost rep :
ncoming SMS will not work if International Roaming Pack is not added on a Boost mobile service while overseas.

I just got a message today saying RCS chats are available so that doesn't require the mobile network at all. Just a WiFi connection to the internet.

      • Where did you get the message from ?
Also confirming this is for prepaid

        • I have Boost prepaid. I have a Samsung Galaxy A33 supporting RCS.

I have disabled myGov text messages logging in with just username and password.

          • @mysterytal: Ok I’m using iPhone and I don’t think there’s any equivalent like RCS

      • I just tried it myself by turning on the flight mode, enabled wifi calling, and tried to login to myGov. Haven’t received the SMS(calls work ok with no network)

      • What is this RCS voodoo? Sounds like a boost whatsapp/ Viber?
        Need to login first?

  • So, unlike Kogan, you don't need to worry about recharge at all? Just expires after 28 days by default? It will not charge you since you provide no CC details.

    • Yes, up to 6 mths before number termination.

It is a good free way to park some spare permanent numbers.

  • I just ordered Boost Mobile: $12.10 Cashback ($2.10 Profit) on 40GB 28-Day last night.

Am I eligible for this deal?
    Cheers

In case anyone's struggling to activate their prepaid SIMs: "Due to maintenance, Pre-Paid activation and recharge services are unavailable between 12:00AM Tuesday, 9th of May AEST to 1:30AM Tuesday, 9th of May AEST. "

    • Yep. And chat just spams that statement at you and doesn't connect you to an agent.

Edit: Took over an hour to chat to an actual person.

Still not activated. Chat is a dumpster fire at the moment.

Yep, I couldn't get mine activated. Took screenshots and activated a voda Sim (needed it working). So boost didn't allow me to make the 30 day window.

I will try again in 30 days. If cashback isn't honoured, will do a chargeback with screenshots.

P.S. apparently something to do with having an existing/ prior boost account and trying to activate a new SIM with same details.

        • P.S. apparently something to do with having an existing/ prior boost account and trying to activate a new SIM with same details.

Yep, I'm at minute 97 with chat trying to get my service activated.

          • @wavesgreen: Yeah, nah. Call up, or give up…30mins is my max. Their number works even not activated.

            • +1

@tunzafun001: I've talked with chat, they've confirmed my successful submission for activation and are now saying just to wait for the service to go live as they have a big backlog of activations to go through.

Don't particularly want to call up and wait on the phone talking to a offshore call centre, get disconnected twice, just to be told exactly the same thing and have no recourse except to yell at them or escalate to a complaint that no-one will follow up on, all to have my service be activated within that initial 4-24 hour timeframe anyway.

              • +1

@wavesgreen: It appears that their call centre has been set to auto-disconnect. Chat is the way to go for activation.

                • @ilubbargains: Lol what an absolute sh!tshow

                • @ilubbargains: Woolworths Mobile (also a Telstra wholesaler) has put out an advisory on problems with their 4G network and longer than normal wait times for call centre and chat. So seems Telstra has sh!t the bed.

        • I'm now past 25 hours since I submitted my activation request and still no service. Wish I worked in a job where I could go a whole 8 hour shift and just straight up fcuk a customer over by doing literally nothing with their order.

Will be ditching all Telstra network resellers ASAP.

          • @wavesgreen:

all to have my service be activated within that initial 4-24 hour timeframe anyway

I just had to put that down in writing didn't I? Hour 26 now.

Got a response (just prior to midnight) to my complaint that I filed this afternoon and they basically told me I'm screwed until tomorrow. Awesome customer service.

            • @wavesgreen: If anyone cares, they activated my service today around lunchtime. They gave me an extra 10GB data on all my active services I have with them, including this new one, as compensation. So that was good.

I actuvated my sim real quick this morning. Received activation complete email straight away. Then I found out I could make phone calls but no internet. It worked after I restart my phone.

        • I feel like anyone who submitted their activation overnight are the ones getting screwed by the "backlog".

If I had known there was going to be maintenance overnight I would've waited til business hours this morning to submit it.

          • @wavesgreen: Telstra sh!t really hit the fan and beyond, still unable to make a call despite restart the phone, always got message "the number you called is not connected". This is the SIM activated few days ago.

            • @jayzee: Boost sim or Telstra?

            • @jayzee: Lets face it..there will be a zillion Ozbargain activations happening.

I just attempt to reach out, take screenshot, use a chargeback if you have to (if cashrewards/ boost dont honour a non achievable deal). Will keep TT/ cashrewards in the loop. Hopefully these will all just get processed regardless of non achievable activation status.

              @tightarse - just a heads up

    • Well, I've learned the hard way that being a Boost customer means you're actually a Telstra customer and inherit all the problems and incompetence that Telstra bring to the table. Telstra's outages and inability to fix them will be your problem.

More than a decade working with Telstra as a part of my job (and previously ditching them as my personal provider) I should've known better.

  • Thanks. ordered another sim

Has it changed to 45gb for $10 ?

    • Yes, 25GB bonus.

  • Does anyone know what will happen with these $30 starter kits after the July increase?
It says on the Boost website that it'll change to $35 with 25GB.

If I still have starter packs that haven't been activated (regardless of the 'must activate within 30 days to get cashback' clause), will I need to provide cc details and pay an extra $5 to activate the pack?

Just wondering how Boost will handle it… or if anyone remembers if this has happened in the past.

  • Bonus data disappeared?

  • I ordered 3 individual SIMs from the previous deal and only received 2 order dispatched emails. Do I need to contact Boost for that? Or will they still send me 3 SIMs even though I only received 2 dispatch emails?

    • Ok forget it. Just received email #3 couple of minutes ago. >_<

I think this is 45GB rather than 40GB?

  • how long usually does it take after ordering to get your simcard?

  • anyone had Returned to Sender - Incorrect address on item? What can you do next?
