Kettle Potato Chips Chilli 300g $5.50 ($1.83 per 100g) @ Coles

880

potato chip prices have sky rocketed over the last 9 months.

a 165 gram bag is now $6 regular price. ($3.84 per 100g).

redonkulous.

at least some solace can be found at the bottom of one of these 300g "party" bags.

  • At $1.83 per 100g, it's almost twice as much as biscuits.

  • +2

    300g is the new 'big'

Potatoes are the new luxury item for us plebs

Top 1% are getting exponentially richer

  • +10

    buy aldi $3 Blackstone chips

    • +1

      shhh

    • Was going to comment exactly this! They're way better and alot cheaper. Kettle seem very inconsistent with there seasoning and have more crappy cooker chips.

  • +7

Rip off like everything at the moment.

I've stopped buying them, along with takeaways. The world has gone mad.

  • Honestly they're the worst junk food you can eat,so I've consciously quit buying them….

    • +2

By worst do you mean best? Because chips are great.

I only buy Aldi or $3 or less per bag specials from colesworth now though.

    • +1

They are by no means good for you but hardly the worst you can get

    • how do you figure "worst"? What about sugary junk food

  • +4

People actually buy these at these prices? I don't even bother anymore. It's such a rip off.

  • +3

I've actually shifted to popping my own popcorn. A few cents for 1/4 cup of corn, heat oil in a big saucepan (WITH LID ON) and season after with salt, pepper, paprika and powdered vegetable stock. Very tasty.

  • I just stopped buying them now.

  • +1

$6 for a 150g pack is what you pay at the pub. Which is odd that they haven't increased their prices.

    • +3

Pub's a terrible place to get your groceries.

      • +2

That said it's competitive pricing now days

        • +6

Agree with this! And, I mean, I tried to open a beer and watch the footy aisle 3 at Woolies and they had a problem with it. The pub premium is ok with me.

    • Which is odd that they haven't increased their prices.

Because pubs make all their money from the pokies

      • The ones I go to don't. Yet their prices are stable…

  • +2

Twisties party pack 270gm went from $3.50 to $5.80 and now I see Coles have recently price locked it at $4. They're also $3.99 at Aldi

    • +1

Yep! I think they've cottoned on that the Twisties bag going from $3 to $3.50 to $5.50 is one that we noticed. So they will lock it back now. Jerks.

      • +2

The worst part is these 'deals' from Coles and Woolworths get lots of votes so we're all giving them free advertising and encouraging their deceptive practices

  • Can't wait for shrinkflation to have this big share bag go down to 250 then 200g, like a normal big bag of chips.

  • +1
  • +3

Stopped buying chips and chocolates. So expensive for a 15 minute snack.

    • I agree. What snacks are you getting now. ?

      • +2

        Road kill 😵

      • +1

I've shifted to premium biltong. If I'm going to be paying through the nose I may as well get the good stuff!

  • I got some cheap ones at Woolies this past week. Half price for The Natural Chip Co…. were $2.35 a bag. Bought a dozen. This is the only way to buy chips at the moment.

    • Still too much. Those used to be $1.75 half price, $2 everyday price at Woolworths.

  • +2

Kettle chips aren't worth this much

  • Just wait for half price specials. Found Pringles $2 at The Reject Shop too.

    • +1

      Kettles to pringles.

Also any $2 stackables are now better than Pringles since they changed to the smaller size and slightly different flavour. Unless the ones at Reject are American or from the UK.

      • +1

Regardless of how you try to spin this I'm not spending that much on a pack of chips lol

        • Fair *sighs*.

      • +3

Pringles are absolutely horrendous now. Not sure what they did with the recipe but it tastes like salty cardboard.

  • +2

300g is now considered a ‘big bag’? Guess these chip companies are going for skrinkflation and greedflation masquerading as inflation.

    • Sounds like a healthy move in this context, actually.

Imagine having American-style one-pint "small" soft drinks at Maccas. Even if it's half ice cubes, it's ~25g sugar per the smallest serving.

  • +6

Stopped eating them entirely. Haven’t bought a bag since they used to be ~$2.5 half price

  • +1

I like chips but these prices are ridiculous. Will avoid. Thanks for posting OP but we should all hold off until these prices come down.

  • +3

When negotiating your next pay rise / EB agreement…take in a whopper and pack of chips.

Ask for your pay to follow the same price index of these basic staples.

  • +4

    18 dollars per kg.

More expensive then organic chicken breast

    But not beef

    • More expensive then organic chicken breast

To be fair, meat contains way more water.

      • +1

        And way less air

        • Not that the amount of air would affect dollars per kg. But I'm sure they'd infuse water into chips if they could as well.

  • +1

Can tell you from multiple experiences there is no solace at the bottom of one of these 300g "party" bags. All I found was guilty pleasure.

  • That's not a big bag. Walk into Costco and you can get 640g BIG bag of red rock delis.

  • HODLLLLLLLLLL !!
Oh wait!! sorry wrong thread !
I thought i was on the Nvidia/AMD video card posts with the crazy exorbitant pricing!

But .. I guess .. same thing applies here? Maybe..

  • There are not many brands I can buy because I won't buy palm oil super saturated fat chips, and Kettle is one of the select few.

  • Going to have to get cashrewards on chips.

  • +2

Surely no one is dumb enough to buy basic of very average chips like kettles or red rock for $6, in what world is this a deal?

Just checked countdown.co.nz and normal non-special price is still 2 bags for NZD$7(AUD$6.50) . You guys are paying an idiots tax. Stop supporting these greed driven companies who will happily rip you off to your face and laugh all the way home about it. Completely Bonkers.

  • +2

Not very long ago, Kettle Chips (165g) were $2.12 when it's on half price, now it's $3 and down to 150g.
    I stopped buying it.

    • Pay more get less..
Fk buying any bag that isn't 175g out of principle.
