  • Seems like a good price, would almost certainly recommend getting an additional battery too.

At a glance, it looks like the tools are near identical to this deal; https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/610528

It was $1 more but had 2 x 4Ah batteries instead of 1 x 4aH and 1 x 2.5Ah. Given that the sander only fits up to a 2.5Ah battery if you want to attached the collection bin, it's not the end of the world including one of the smaller batteries, which will make for easier handling on the drills as well.

It's a great kit for the price, so a big thumbs up for the combo deal.

    • Yes you are right. Most probably they discontinued the one from the previous post and this is the new one out. Maybe that explains why I couldn't find any price history on it apart of 3 weeks back.

      • +2

From memory, most got snapped up pretty quickly, but some lucky OzBargainers picked them up on run out at the even better price of $199.

For a brief review of the included tools, see www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/10210483/redir. As I said at the time, they're not trade quality, but are a good set for the home handyman and come with a great warranty.

2 years of inflation and shrinkflation.

    • +1

Yeah I got that pack and ended up sourcing a smaller battery on marketplace so I'd say no loss with the new offering

  • +1

Bought a similar Ozito pack a few years ago with a torch instead of the sander for roughly the same price, maybe a little less. Good deal.

    • +1

Same here, have done so many home reno's with my kit in the past few years.

    • same use it all the time….

I prefer brushless, otherwise pretty good deal.

  • are they brushless?

    • +1

      No they are not brushless.

      • thanks

    • What does that mean?

      • Brushless motor. Which are more power efficient and last longer than normal brushed motors

        • +15

None of which matters much for DIY powertools.
Brushless is better in theory, but it must be 20 years at least since I had to replace the brushes on a powertool. And time between battery swaps has never been an issue.
In olden days, they'd even come with a spare pair of brushes included.

For something like an eBike, where battery range is vital, then sure, of course you want a brushless motor.

For anyone who does not yet have cordless powertools, but likes a bit of DIY, this is an awesome deal to get started.

          • +6

            @bargaino: This.
If you're using the tools enough to need to worry about whether or not it's brushless, then you shouldn't be buying Ozito.
These tools are really meant for casual use; once a year building a garden bed out of pallets, tightening some cabinet hinges every 6 months, etc. You don't need brushless for that.

            • +4

@sassypants: I think you are short-selling ozito there. I've done some more substantial home renovations using them. Not full-time tradie, but a hell of a lot more than occasional. They do the job. I would not use the circular saw for jarrah beams, but it will do lots of pine. Preferably with a new blade, as the massive penis guy said below.

              • +2

@bargaino: I'm just an extra, extra, extra medium sized penis guy, but I can verify that a new blade transforms the circular saw.

I got this one - www.amazon.com.au/gp/product/B00D1D10DY - but most decent $20 165mm blades will be a profound improvement and have the saw cutting through timbers like a hot knife through butter.

                • +1

@UncleRico: My circular saw got some weird rattle defect after years of abuse. Bunnings replaced it free under 5 year warranty. Bonus - comes with a new blade 😁

                • +1

                  @UncleRico: Good tip

          • @bargaino: I remember when cordless often meant NiCad batteries. Those batteries sucked due to memory effect and self discharge rate. Li ion batteries were a game changer.

I wonder if battery improvements (energy density) from the EV industry will filter through to DIY power tools. I think 1.5ah batteries were common place when the ryobi one+ range started, and now 2ah seems to be the entry point. Looking ahead, I wonder if 2.5ah will be the new base battery in the future.

            • +1

@Worf: Li-ion cells are not just cheaper and greater charge capacity, but greater current now. They will continue to displaced corded tools in the workplace.
Give it a few more years and the petrol mower will be dead. The EU wants to ban ICE car sales by 2035, and that is looking possible.

  • thank you

For the last 3 weeks. That's what I am saying. Price history it's for a short period.

      • I saw this in the morning and thought it was very cheap, because I didn't know the original price, so I checked it on Price Hipster.

    • +3

These are promo packs, there is no "normal" price. They are only sold for a limited time every year.

    • For the two weeks a year the promo is active…

  • The possibilities are endless with this versatile kit.

Until you hit a brick wall (literally)

I bought the same kit in August 2021 and which I thought was the same as UncleRico has linked above but mine came with 4ah and 2.5ah battery!

Regardless, I've only really made heavy use of most things recently and everything has held up surprisingly well (can't comment on the circular saw). I'm using the included batteries in 2 tools by 2 people and finding I am rotating them a couple times in day on the charger so grabbed an extra battery recently via this deal:

this was the same price but gave you the battery usb power to charge your phone last year that i purchased. then went on sale for 199.

this is a good beginner set. circular saw is trash, don't cut anything remotely thick. grinder is for light work, and i didn't even push it hard.

sander works, but dust extraction leaves something to be desired.

great price, just reduce your expectations.

  • I have a drill and plenty of batteries, just want the other tools. Anyone in Melbourne want the drill, both batteries and charger for $100?

More than you can afford, pal. Milwaukee.

  • if the circ saw was a recip, and the impact was a proper SDS hammer drill, id be all over this.

  • My payment processed fine and then order was cancelled immediately. Tried a few times and all were cancelled. Anyone else having problems?

  • +2

I bought the circular saw as a skin in the huge sale last year, think it was $49. Replaced the blade with a decent one and it's good for light weight work. You're not going to be using this to cut 4x2s all day long.
In the same sale picked up the detail sander skin for $21. It will only take a 2.5Ah battery with the dust collector fitted, but works well, and gets a decent run time.

Just here for the comments :D

  • I have this kit. Have used everything pretty hard (DIY) except for the grinder and have had no issues.

    • i have used the grinder a few times. absolutely no issues! incredible value

    • I have used it to death and it wont die lol, its pretty good.

  • I bought this kit
https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/457018 a few years ago it was well worth it.

  • Hmm I dont do much DIY atm… but thinking this could be handy. I already have an Ozito drill and a couple of batteries

  • +2

Obviously depends on what you are using, but most people will not use a grinder and you don’t really need an impact driver (obviously you can use them but you don’t ‘need’ them for light DIY stuff - building a deck or something and it’s a different story). All that said, the drill, sander and saw add up to around $250 if bought individually, so you get the other tools free and you might find them useful

  • great entry kit - i have this - can do most things for home diy

  • I bought this kit for $229 in Aug 2021. Might buy this one just for the batteries and charger and fresh saw blade and to have the replacement tool skins available. I have given all tools a thorough work out building retaining walls and garden beds.

Current Bunnings price for the charger and 2.5Ah battery is $59 + 4.0Ah battery for $69 so $128 total. Not sure if duplicate tools, and a fresh circular saw blade is worth the extra $120?

FYI - If you want a Ozito 4.0Ah battery from Bunnings and a charger it is cheaper to buy them separately ($69 + $25 = $94) than together $99
