    • Same. Cant find how bright it is

    • It doesn't say on the box however being 8w so around 700 -> 800 lm would be my best guess.

    • +9

If they are the same as the ones I got 2 years ago (which looks like they are) they don't state the lumens anywhere on the packaging, product or manual.

However looking into it last time, the model number SMART-AL2017-RGB-TGTS lead me to here (and explains how they can sell them for $13)

They are listed at 860lm, though efficiency of 90lm/W which is 720lm @ 8W. The manual says white are 28 LED, RGB ones are 32 LED. Alibaba listing says 8W + 1.5W, which could be the difference (855lm, bit of rounding up to 860lm). I'd say 720lm is a safe bet though. CRI is listed as 80 btw.

      • +1

Reselling Alibaba stuff at 400%, that's very ALDI in fact😆

      • Any AliExpress link? I don't really need to buy 10 from Alibaba.

        • Not that I've seen, though by the time you add shipping and GST you might as well just buy from Aldi and at least get some warranty with it.

  • +2

Anyone know the OEM brand? Want to see if they can work with Homebridge!

    • You can add them via Tuya

  • +1

Did bunnings price match these last year? If so, do u know which Bunnings equivalent got discounted?

    • Yeh they did, pretty sure it was the Deta ones, but don’t quote me

      • +1

That would be nice discount. Deta smart LED via grid connect 7W 660lm are currently $40.60

    • +5

      Here's the Bunnings equivilant product

Bunnings Arlec 9W 720lm RGB+CCT Grid Connect Smart LED Downlight $22.15

The price of these at Bunnings has been slowly going up, where Aldi is coming down.

Functionally and visually they are virtually identical.

  • go it last year
its excellent, and compatible with tuya!

  • I have a house with "dumb" light switches, If the light switch is off can I use voice activation to turn the lights on? Is installing smart switches the only way to avoid this issue?

    • +4

If switch is off no. It needs to be always on to receive commands.

  • +2

    No wattage.
    No Lumens.
    No CRI.
    No standby consumption.
    No, thanks.

    • Hardly surprising when it's just a $3 Ali express light

      • Which $3 light tho?

  • +1

    Why no love for 70mm cutout… 🙁

  • +1

These lights get lot of love everytime they're on sale but aren't these too hard to configure if they need to be done individually? It took me about 15 mins last time I tried to configure just 1 Mirabella genio as it kept failing everytime.

    • +1

A lot easier than you might think actually.

Had to reconfigure my lights a little while back. Had an extended power outage, and just before the power came back on properly it switched on and off just the right amount of times to reset Tuya lights to factory defaults (3 I think) so all the Tuya downlights in the house got reset to their default flashing state.

Have rooms with 4 and 5 lights each in them and thought they were going to give me trouble, but it configured all 5 lights at once (I was just doing room by room). I think it took me longer to pull the localkey for each one again for Home Assistant (but that's a whole other thing)

I'm not sure how many it can do at once but you could probably plug them all in before installation and set up at once.

Anyway, that'll teach me to remember to switch off the lights at the switch when there's a power outage.

    • +1

Idk if you care anymore but if you got issues, put it in the other pairing mode, on off 5 times then it’s super quick

  • Anyone know of a smart Multicolour (or tricolour) downlight with CRI > 90?

    • likley the Philips Hue stuff…
oh, you meant high CRI AND cheap….:-P

I just bought 30 of the Mercator IKUU walter zigbee 90mm downlights - @ about $38 each. (OEM is Tuya)
not high CRI, but relatively cheap AND AU approved AND platform agnostic being zigbee.
I'm slowly switching rooms over to home assistant..

It's nice having colour available for the kids

These ALDI wifi ones are dimmer, BUT - who cares, they're super cheap

      • I never said cheap lol - though this is OzB so fair assumption.

Looking for lights that can be cool white during the day and change to warm in the evening for my office.
Got some high CRI lights in the rest of the house now don't want to go back lol - although who knows if this is just placebo (though the light quality definitely seems better)

        • These would do that. you don't have to use the colour.
Main reason i got 'smart' lights is for exactly the same as you - cool white in the day, and warm in the evening…
the colour bit is fairly mediocre, is just a bonus to entertain the kids!

          • @bleugh: Yeh I do this with the first lights I got from Aldi (these Brilliant tuneable whites) No idea of the CRI on them though, but not going to be 90+ :)

These recent ones I got the RGBW with the same thinking. Same price and the colour LEDs are extra so no need to use them. Eventually though might use them to flash notifications in various colours from Home Assistant.

  • Hi Aldi: Are these compatible with Dick Smith?

  • There was a box full of similar ones at Bunnings last weekend for $4 each. I picked up one to keep as a spare in case one at our house fails. I will need to check if it was 8w but looked the same

    • Seen them, they have a 3 pos color temp switch.
      Thought thy were "dumb" downlights?

  • how many lumens?

  • I want to replace my garage lights with these for the purpose of being able to press a physical button (not on my phone) and set off a 5 minute timer automatically each time so that after I exit the garage, they will turn off. Do you think it's possible with these? Thanks!

    • Google Home routines are pretty good and can be triggered off actions like pressing a button on a smart switch. I'm not positive, but this seems extremely doable. You could also just "hey google, turn the garage off in 5 minutes"

      • Many thanks. I definitely can't use voice for this one. It has to be a button. I will investigate further but wondered whether any one can give ma hint or just even a link for me to help figure it out.

    • If you have a Zigbee gateway you can buy a smart button similar to these and program it to turn off your lights after 5 minutes. IKEA sells one too.

I'm sure there are WiFi variants of these buttons if you don't use Zigbee.

  • Would this be a pretty straightforward job for a sparky to convert from normal globes? If it just has a normal 10amp plug I would think it to just be a case of cut the end off and join onto the existing 240v cable?

    • +3

Better for them to install a plug base, that way you can just unplug and plug in a new one if needed later.

    • technically they can be run from extention cords.

      • No GPOs in the roof space :(

    • Very easy but depends on roof access I guess.

    • Also Sparkies won't probably use these as they will use ones from sparkydirect or similar as they are all Australia approved.

  • +1

For those attempting to do DIY electrical, which i’m not going to talk about or recommend in a public forum, you will need to know the IC rating of the downlight. This Aldi one does not list the IC rating. Ideally you want IC-4 for it to be safely covered or abut insulation, otherwise you will need adequate clearance. Also, if you already have a GPO installed in your roof cavity you will also need to know the IC rating for reasons already explained

    • Yeah, you would think Aldi would consider this when selling downlights. I can't say I have noticed them getting very hot as I use them as mood and also workbench lighting rather than in roof as intended. The ones I have from last year only note IP ratings.
      IP40 (above ceiling)
      IP44 (below ceiling)
      About IP Ratings

      Ta=25°c (environment tested in)

      • +1

I personally would avoid putting these in the roof then because if a fire does start your insurance claim on damages may be null and void.

      • I agree. I am out. Too risky.

      • +2

That's interesting. Have you checked on the side? I have one here that shows IC-4 on the side of the thing (not where the IP ratings are shown)

        • +1

Actually, you are absolutely correct, well spotted, it does say IC-4. It's located on the white part. Strange that they didn't include on the box or on the main label where all the other specs are.

  • We all know we can watch a YouTube video and be experts at all trades.

  • Hope you all went well today - I ended up buying all 16x of the RGB ones at my store & a couple whites as spares

    • Which store is this?

      • Gladstone, QLD

        • Oh good I will make sure to avoid that store. 😂

          • @MKBHD: Yeh not many here live where info, so it’s a pretty safe bet to be a touch greedy haha

    • Nice. Greedy or what..hahaha. Yeah, best let everyone know the store so saves others from visiting.

      • This was Gladstone store in QLD.
Plenty of cool/warm white left though, but they weren’t on the shelves this morning yet.

I got what I needed to finish my house - makes me happy at least.

    • Do the RGB ones have the same warm to cool of the RGB, the only difference is the additional RGB colours? Thanks

    • Why buy white ones? Why not all RGB? When they selling for the same price?
Aren’t the RGB one same as white one with added feature?

      • Yes, that’s my understanding too. My store only had 16x RGB though, of which I bought all of them.
I bought the two whites as backups for Justin.

  • So less stock that finished in 40 seconds. Clearly a bait advertising.

  • Thanks OP. Visited two stores to get 16 I needed.

  • I didnt see Bunning matching Aldi offer this morning. Anybody spot price matching equivalent at Bunnings?

    • I also looked & didn’t see them match anything either

  • Is there a part number and does it match the alibaba link earlier?

    • If you mean compared to this this then I would think the same as description says "SMART-AL2017-RGB+TGTS" and my Aldi ones from a while back are SMART AL2017 RGBCCT WIFI & BLE.

Not sure what the +TGTS means assume the same as Aldi's BLE? The part number 706391 is what is on the Aldi one

  • Only white at my 2x local stores. No rgb. Unless sold out.

  • Went to a store this afternoon and only white were left. So I went to the other around the corner and grabbed the last 12 RGBs. Lucky me - that's exactly how many I needed… just hope none are defective. Staff were putting some more out when I got there and handed me the 2x RGB in the box he just opened. Seems they are purposefully in short supply compared to the whites. Either that or they're packed randomly.

    • How many whites in the box with only two RGBs?

      • Seemed like a box of 8 with 2 RGBs. I think that may have been random or I am misremembering since I later visited another store today and found about 50/50 on the rack.

PSA for you and anyone else who can make it to Rockdale Plaza (just south of Sydney) - they have probably 10 RGB units in stock as of right now.

      • +1

In my store at least they were boxes of 12:
8x white; 4x RGB. They only received 4x boxes.

I find it weird that Aldi packs them like this - would have thought they’d have a few boxes of white and a few boxes of RGB.. But whatever.

  • Just incase anyone needs this info, Aldi Northlakes (the one outside Westfield) still had 15 of the white ones when I was there about an hour ago
