OzBargain Approved Air Purifier for Winter

Hi all

I'm thinking about getting an air purifier as I have two little ones and we live close to a main road and get quite a bit of dust.

I have seen lots of talk about the Xiao Mi 3H Hepa and people not being a fan of the Dyson Hot and Cool.

Is there an Ozbargain favourite or approved for air purifier? Just like there's an Ozbargain approved mobile plan and items on Amazon.

Thanks in advance!

Winix Zero+ Pro 5 Stage Air Purifier

  • Ahh Cheers,

  • Looks pretty epic and full on… but only the best for ozbargainers at the best price

the 4 stage looks okay for $399 on Amazon.

  • IKEA have a range of air purifiers that look more like regular furniture than a plastic appliance https://www.ikea.com/au/en/search/?q=air%20purifier

We had the cheaper one, would not recommend it, barely made a difference and loud as hell

  • You already named it - Xiaomi

  • The Arovec range is pretty decent, we have the P500 and it's great. Not the cheapest but they often have decent sales, we paid $240.

  • I went the Xiaomi 3H for the cheaper filters (its a classic mistake to buy cheap appliances that have filters that cost more than the unit), but if I had to do it again I'd do it differently.

For HEPA purposes a filter lasts quite a long time. It's mostly the larger dust that bothers me, and that's better sorted with multiple cheaper units. Ikea do some good basic ones if DIY scares you

    • Ahh interesting insight, so what would you do next time? Have a few IKEA air purifiers in one room?

      DIY doesn’t really worry me

Yeah, I mean it's tricky. To do it right is in the 'too hard' pile for most people. If I was looking to do it better, while sticking to appliances, I'd probably go with the ikea ones. Get maybe 2 or 3 units, mount them on the wall, have them gently circulating the air around. To me that's a decent improvement over a single expensive unit, because what they don't tell you is that at full speed they sound like a jet engine. Gives me a headache and when I have run it with kids around they always turn it off. I'd much prefer multiple units, running at slower speeds. Mount them up on the wall, and just leave them running all the time.

But you can take that a step further. The ikea units are basically just a HEPA filter infront of a fan. So if you can find a source of HEPA filters cheap and in the right size, and box fans, you can make them yourself for half the price.

  • also looking, what are you all using? How do you like it? My shortlist is the Samsung AX90 or the Xiaomi Pro 4 or the Winix Zero Pro 5 or the DreamEgg True 8150?
