Sea to Summit Thermolite Reactor Extreme Sleeping Bag Liner $55 Delivered (Usually $99) @ Snowys Outdoors

190

I missed out on the previous Amazon deal for the same price just a few days ago - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/771431

So when I saw the same deal at Snowy's I jumped on it.

Sea to Summit states this liner adding an extra 15°C of warmth, but in reality, its maybe a few more °C of warmth from what reviews are saying. But still a worthwhile upgrade for a cold night out camping/hiking, more comfortable, plus it will keep your expensive sleeping bag clean!

I've got the 8c one and its great. Not really sure if its adds to the warmth, but its much more comfortable having the soft fabric against my skin than the synthetic sleeping bag. Also much easier to wash these than the sleeping bag.

    • Thanks for the info, thats good to know. And thats it, for me it's worth it just for the comfort and washability to keep your expensive sleeping bag in good condition. Supposed to be made from hollow fibers so must add some amount of warmth youd think.

Im sure it helps with warmth, but also at 399g it might be more suited for car camping.

TYSM! This one’s been on my wish list for a while, good reviews (although, as you say, not as warm as it claims to be). Just ordered :)

How does this compare with the Coleman and Oztrail versions at half the price?

    https://www.snowys.com.au/stratus-fleece-sleeping-bag-liner-…

    • I can't comment on the warmth ratings (or how accurate and comparable they are) But the Coleman is twice the weight and i think larger packed size from what i can see in the specs.

Edit just some additional comparison specs. From my calculations Coleman/Oz trail is 4-5x times larger packed and twice as heavy.

      Sea to Summit Liner - 17L x 11W x 11H = 2057cm3, Weight:0.39 Kg
      Coleman Liner - 28L x 17W x 17H = 8092cm3, Weight:0.90 Kg
      OzTrail Liner - 30L x 18W x 18H = 9720cm3, Weight:0.85 Kg

So it comes down to space/weight constraints, or value for money really. But I have a feeling the coleman/oztrail heat ratings are probably more accurate then the sea to summit.

We have both the Coleman and Oztrail fleece liners. They work very well and the fleece is comfortable. We have used them in freezing conditions and they have kept us warm and comfortable. Without them we have felt the cold and been uncomfortable, even with a blanket on top. I would say the +5C extra warmth rating is accurate. It has taken our -5C sleeping bags to -10C.

I got them over the STS Thermolite because they were a fraction of the cost at the time (we needed 3) and the extra 5C was all we really needed to be comfortable. The extra size and weight wasn't much concern for us since we car camp. They pack up about half the size of our sleeping bags and we can even pack them up inside the sleeping bags if we are using them multiple days. They just squeeze back inside the bags with them inside. They are much easier to wash and dry than the sleeping bags. It's a better idea than having summer and winter sleeping bags if pack size/weight isn't an issue.

According to one of the reviewers, he measured approx 5°C increase in temp. (from 77F/25C to 86F/30C with the liner):

5°C is something, ill take what i can get!

  • plus it will keep your expansive sleeping bag clean!

So it's only suitable for big bags?

    • I think suitable for any bag. They used to sell two sizes but am told they consolidated to one size now.

      • Not as funny when you've got to explain it (maybe wasn't even funny in the first place)

        expansive

        adjective

covering a wide area in terms of space or scope; extensive.

        • I was a bit slow. But I got there in the end.
