Silent Home Security System?

I live in a two level home and want to look at options at arming downstairs overnight.

I have a Bosch security system which allows this now but had a couple of false alarms and the kids are petrified of the noise.

Does anyone have a system which either notifies me via phone call (rings until I stop it so I don't miss it), or will be "less loud" if an intrusion is detected?

Loud and noisy alarms are a big deterrent. Plus it will also alert your neighbours in an event of a break-in. I'd want a loud alarm for this reason. While I understand that your kids are petrified, why don't you try and figure out what is setting it off in the first place?

  • Some brands are less prone to false alarms, or can be adjusted for sensitivity and individual responses for different types of triggers and individual cameras. Purchased from a very experienced specialist alarms store. Haven’t had a false alarm here in over 20 yrs, but have had detected intrusions that set off loud internal sirens and scared off the intruders. Used to have an external sensor that was very resistant to false alarms too, but it died, and can’t find an equivalent replacement.

  • Sensor lights? That way you get alerts via a bright light without any noise.

For more notifications then a camera setup with motion detection would pair well, but would be a single phone alert rather than continuous.

  • What about some smart cams so you can actually see what was going on around your house just before a supposed break-in. Though if the criminals cut the internet cable to your home and your cams don't have 4/5G backup, or if the crims knock out the cell towers too, then you won't get alerts on most cams on the market.

  • I use Philips Hue sensors that are linked to Amazon Alexa. Other than turning on the lights, it's also set to send a customised message notification to my phone (via Alexa) when the sensors are triggered.

  • You want your alarm on for when you are home? In Australia? Sounds pretty paranoid…

    A dog would be perfect.
