HELP: Faulty Powerbank after 4 Months of Purchase from AliExpress, What Can I Do?

https://vi.aliexpress.com/item/1005003822943750.html?spm=a2g…

The above is the item i bought from baseus official page through aliexpress. the item was work at time i received, i went to use it again in march and realised there is no charge.
even though i had charged it recently.
I tested the charging over few different cables and left to 100% charge. once disconnected it is dead.

I have contacted the seller and they say that the product refund state is only $30. That seems like a shit deal that a powerbank is designed for emergency use.
Barely even used and is dead. and i only get 1/3 of my money for it?

i get that its past 90 day buyer protection. there is no option to dispute this (or cannot see it)

    AliExpress

Be thankful for any money you do get back. This is the risk you run with overseas stores

surprised they didnt say it was user error or some other random excuse to fob off a claim

    • +3

Hehe, the money isn't back in the account yet, that is a whole other kettle of fish with AliExpress ;)

    • And be thankful it didn't burn the house down

ACCC, for an overseas site and vendor… srsly?

Valve Corporation is an American video game developer, publisher, and digital distribution company headquartered in Bellevue, Washington.

The difference is a small-ish business vs a major one

They're not getting 3mil from Baseus, so they're not going to push anything to a federal level.

Even domestically, ACCC won't go into bat unless it's significant enough

@spackbace: Yawn, just report it. If you don't do anything nothing will happen.

Same logic applies to Valve, thankfully not everyone went ohh it's not Australian so no worries

      • The government somehow convinced them to tax all items imported, even though we still have a limit before taxes need to be applied on imports.

may be raise a dispute with Aliexpress directly?

Amazon had the same item listed (currently unavailable) and it states that there is a 12 month warranty therefore you are entitled to a refund or replacement. Once you have contacted the seller there should be an option to raise a case with Aliexpress. I have received refunds on faulty goods and goods under warranty without a problem.

buy a powerbank from aliexpress to replace it would be my first instinct

Or avoid any future purchase of powerbank from AliXpress?

From Aliexpress - surprised it has lasted 4 months

  • What Can I Do?

Luck of the draw buying from places like AliExpress…if you're outside the buyer protection/doa period, its the risk you kind of take.

When you buy from these sites, you shouldn't expect warranty. That's the price you pay for the cheaper price.
So consider it a bonus that they're willing to give you something!

  • Why would you buy something to do with charging/batteries from aliexpress. There are things you cheap out on and this isn't one of them. Wasn't there a thing an article a few months ago about someone who had serious facial burns because they used a knock off charger?

  • +1

To be honest, in my mind, if I ever buy anything from Aliexpress I'm not expecting any kind of warranty

  • Your options on getting a refund are:

    • Complain to the company
    • Complain to Aliexpress
    • Complain to the Chinese State Administration for Market Regulation as they are the local regulator in China

The ACCC might one day rule that this company is providing directly to Australians and therefore need to up their warranty. However in reality it would be a game of whackamole as the next day Baseus would stop being available to Australians and Caseus, a totally unrelated reseller, would pop up.

I'd take the $30 and chalk it up as a lesson on overseas imports.

  • Thanks guys, yeah it is a shame that even if you buy from an official baseus site there is a problem. but i guess ill see if i can dispute. ill have to find the right place kos i couldnt find it :s

  • i get that its past 90 day buyer protection. there is no option to dispute this

    Credit card chargeback.

  • Fyi if you dispute too many times, Aliexpress likes to ban peoples accounts. Google it for more info

  • Why don't you contact Baseus and check their support/warranty?

I never buy from Ali Express now as too hard to seek redress.

  • Sorry to hear about your problem. I would imagine that price would surely buy you a quality power bank. I have just travelled through HK and picked up a power bank of similar capacity for only HK$58 (less than AUD$10) at one of the shops at the famous Golden Arcade. It’s barely a month old and has been doing it job as described so far.

  • Unfortunately Aliexpress almost always will side with the seller (from my experience with a warranty claim)
