These are great long lasting vaccum cleaners. Any one know where I can get cheap replacement bags and HEPA filters?

    • +6

Bags I’ve been buying them from gumtree from sellers (bought 4 bags for $15 the other day for Miele branded ones). There’s always some available (when I’ve looked)

    • The Genuine bags are expensive. As an alternative i would recommend the Menalux 3101 which is cheaper ( made in Sweden I think)

    • +3

We just grab the cheap generic packs when we're at a shopping centre and walk past Godfreys.. something like 20 bags for $25.

    • +3

If you've got Good Guys Commercial access (e.g. here: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/704612) you can order the official bulk packs for slightly cheaper than Amazon

    • +1

      Bunnings have cheap bags

      • do they fit this vaccume?

  • -3

Much as I detest Miele, these really are great

    • +11

      Why

      • +12

        Because the really suck…

    • +8

Miele is like the most reliable brand out there!

    • +5

      Much as I detest Miele

You don't have a clue, do you?

Miele is consistently ranks at the top in customer satisfaction and reliability for vacuum cleaner brands.

Most Miele vacuums are still made in Germany. Dysons/Hoovers and pretty much all other competitors are made in either Malaysia or China.
I've had the same C3 for 15 years now. I've had to to replace one attachment in that time.

All of those fancy bagless vacuums spill pollutants/allergens/dust back into your home. The Miele C1/C3s have built-in HEPA filters to stop the exhaust air from releasing all of the sucked in debris/dust/particulates back into your home and the "old-fashioned" bags prevent the release of particulate matter and dust when disposing of them far better than when you empty out the canisters in bagless vacuums. Bagless vacuums are way, way better for improving indoor air quality especially for those with pets and small children.

      • +5

        Bagged vacuums are way better*

      • +7

Anyone who cuts off the bit of a quote where a poster says Miele vacs are good in order to go on a huge spiel about how they're good is really in no position to accuse others of not having a clue.

"Established in 1996 as a joint venture with Melitta, the Dongguan plant has been fully owned by the Miele Group since 2009. Currently Miele produces the Swing H1, Compact C1, Compact C2 and Complete C2 vacuum cleaners here."

  • Great first post OP!

MIele make the best vacuum cleaners…. Amazon seems to be simply matching the price of JB HiFi and Retravision - https://www.jbhifi.com.au/products/miele-c1-classic-powerlin…

  • +3

    This or C3?

    • +42

Wuben C3 every time. This might get rid of household dust, but it's not gonna signal a search helicopter at night when you're lost at sea.

      • +11

The C3 from LG will show the deepest blacks for your eyes so they can rejoice. Will accumulate dust as well if not cleaned. Once you go OLED you never go back :)

C3PO for sure, if it wasn't a fake robot made for movies

          • +2

@andresampras: Definitely the Citroen C3 - even with the reknowned French reliability

      • C3 is a bit old fashioned. C4 has the higher concentration of RDX and therefore more bang for your buck.

    • +4

When I looked into it, C1/C2/C3 all actually have the same suction power, you're paying the body size and accessory kits. The C3 Cat/Dog sold in Australia only has an air powered turbine head so you can even get a third party one off eBay/Amazon for cheaper

  • +1

Wait my current Miele is 2000 watt - how will this 900 watt version perform?

    • +30

about %55 cheaper on electricity consumption

    • Maybe its a C3 vs C1(in the post)?

    • +1

My thoughts exactly, surely it can't beat my 2000W Hoover which is still going strong after 10+ years.

      • +10

This is why it’s 900 watts.

Having used a C3 Cat and Dog (2000w), C2 Compact (1800w), and a C1 (900w) back to back (I clean houses), I honestly couldn’t tell the difference. If you blindfolded me I wouldn’t be able to pick which was which. I assume it comes down to better motor design.

Also your Hoover is objectively shit - no offence

        • +1

Thanks, this is interesting. Didn't know that the power rating doesn't directly translate to suction power:

‘Instead, a combination of factors, including motor and cylinder design, whether the bag or bin is full, whether the filters are regularly cleaned and the shape of the vacuum head can all affect how good a vacuum cleaner is at its job.

‘None of our top-rated vacuum cleaners use more than 900 Watts.’

          • +1

@mathemagician: Common misconception, especially when people compare brushed and brushless motors

            • +1

@Anthropomorphised: Another common misconception is that Dyson corded vacuums are good.

Overpriced, loud, poorly engineered rubbish with a “lifetime filter”… that doesn’t last 12 months.

Dyson deserve a shonky award. How they can make such great cordless vacuums and shit the bed so comprehensively with their corded range is astonishing.

There is a place reserved in hell for the Dyson upright RANGE.

Don’t mind me, I get very passionate about vacuum cleaners.

              • @jackary: Feel free to let Dyson know that, I’m here in a personal capacity.

Corded range should be completely killed off and replaced, have to agree on that one. I much prefer the C3 and CX1 blizzard.

The upright range is discontinued at least at TGG and I believe is now Dyson direct only.

        • So you feel there is no positives in buying a c3 over a c1?

          • @JL1: The C1 (900w) is made in china while the C3 (2000w) is made in Germany. Maybe the chinese motors are more efficient then the german ones.

            • @ialam99: This C1 is made in Germany. C3 is the same motor, just extra accessories

            • +1

@ialam99: No new generation Miele had to reduce power to comply with EU guidelines.

            • @ialam99: As far as I know, all the motors are made in Germany. Some are just assembled in china.

          • @JL1: Are you asking me?

My honest answer would be no, unless there’s a particular tool (like the motor head) that comes with the C3 that you particularly want.

The C3 has a telescopic wand which the C1’s don’t have.

The C3 has a longer cord (the cord on the C1 is barely 4m long)

A few other little ‘comfort features’ on the C3, but for a house of mostly hard floors with no shedding pets, I’d put them at level pegging.

I personally own a C2 compact (wanted something that packs down as small as possible) - it’s been great. I don’t feel like I’m missing anything that the C3 offers. They are functionally almost identical.

  • +6
  • How is this different to the Miele Compact C1 Young Style? Which I own and love.

    • +17

      Which I own and love.

I seem to recall someone once went to hospital for doing just that…

      • The C1 Young model is made in China.

        • Good deal for David Bowie.

    • +2

      They are REMARKABLY similar.

As someone pointed out, the C1 Compact is made in China, but with a motor made in Germany.

The C1 is 900w, the C1 Compact is 1800w - no difference in reality

Both have the same 2 piece wand that you can’t extend

The C1 uses a larger dust bag than the C1 Compact

      That’s about it 🤷‍♂️

      • The C1 is 900w, the C1 Compact is 1800w - no difference in reality

        Ahuh.

  • Anyone got any tips as to how to clean the vacuum head (the hardwood one with the bristles on it)??

    • With another brush and some water.

    • +1

      Use the Dyson

  • Those who own it, roughly how much you spend on bags per year?

    • +29

About $1000, purity is really bad here though

      • +6

You live in a coal mine ?

        • +7

He's ONLY spending $1000 a year on bags, I think if he lived in a coal mine he'd be spending a lot more..

      • +3

        Gotta stop buying from Bankstown

    • +7

Not much. Sometimes less that 20
      https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/354718495330?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mk…

Can usually get bags off eBay. Knock off yes. But as good.

    • +2

We have a dog (short hair) and wear shoes in the house. Go through 3-4 bags per year.

    • +3

300 an oz, inflation is getting out of control.

      • +3

Stop using the vacuum to inflate things then.

    • I have a C3 and go through about 4 bags a year which is about $30

  • +14

The one thing I hate about bagless vacuums is I end up putting on gloves and an N95 mask when I’m emptying it and cleaning it out. Bags might seem like an added unnecessary cost but to dispense with getting dust on yourself or breathing it in, I usually take my very old but still working Dyson DC08 outside to empty and clean

I know several people who own various Miele models and they swear they are the best vacuum cleaners they’ve ever owned, especially the ones that deal with pet hair. I think the fad of Cordless upright bagless is fine for 2-5 minute vacuuming, and I know they last a lot longer but I still prefer plug-in corded for the pure suction power. As long as they don’t milk you on the cost of consumables.

    • +4

Totally agree. I bought my parents a Miele C3 a few years ago, and it's been so great - bags last ages, and the suction is incredible. Plus the thing is so damn quiet!

Meanwhile I got given for free a Dyson DC08 that still is going well, so I can't justify replacing it. I bought the right Torx screwdriver (per a youtube vid) and pulled the entire cyclone thing apart a few times now and washed it all out - makes a big difference to suction. The thing is noisy compared to Miele though.

But yeah, when emptying that thing it's painful the fine dust that goes everywhere. I also take the whole thing outside. I'd much prefer bags.

I also do not like stick cordless vacuums, they don't last long to do a decent vacuum of the house and suction isn't as good.

    • I use a decades old bagged Miele that is kinda falling apart, but it still works fine. So powerful, could suck the (profanity) out of a (profanity).

    • Wait what's wrong with dust in bagless vacuums

      Wait are they toxic

      Wait what

  • where is this made?

  • Anyone own a Dyson big ball and one of these Miele and measure up the experience?

All vacs need cleaning to maintain consistent performance, regardless of bag/less.

    • +1

Its true that all vacs need cleaning, however the bag act as a filter.
When you throw the bag you change the filter.
2 jobs in one = less maintenance.

    • +3

Having sold both I've found Miele is better all round, more reliable and powerful suction. Unlike Dyson it doesn't really need cleaning at all, you just replace the HEPA/AirClean filter once in a blue moon and bags a few times a year.

    • Don't own, but would regularly work on both in the past. Miele has better suction and is quieter.

You're right all vacs need maintenance, but Miele maintenance is 30 seconds to change the two filters, Dyson is literally dismantling the whole vac to replace the HEPA filter.

      • The Barrel vacs don't have hepa filters - the whole vac meets a different hepa standard. Having a hepa filter doesn't mean anything unless the vac is sealed otherwise it just goes around the filter and out the vent lol

    • For corded you’re going to be happier in the long run with the bagged Miele in my personal view. Wintermadness is actually incorrect at least pertaining to new ball vacuums, the core range corded Dysons don’t include HEPA or any washable filter at all

  • Any pet owner's used this product before? I have 2 samoyed dogs and havent found a good vacuum that can handle their furs…

  • +1

    I have a c3 and a Dyson v12.

I (male) much prefer the c3, it actually cleans much much much better.

Wife prefers the Dyson, it is convenient for her, but she also knows I need to occasionally go through the house with the C3 to make sure it is clean.

    • +1

What do you think on C3 and V15?

      • Don't have it and can't say, but handheld vacuums will mostly perform below the old school ones, at least in my experience…

        • V12 is very underpowered and for a different use case than the C3 as it only has the power of the V10. it’s mostly a spot cleaner and hard floor cleaner. Most direct comparison would be outsize, V15 or Gen 5 but you’re spending $700 more for those in some cases

    • -1

Got it! You like good sucks and she is like it easy.

  • +1

Is this good for a home without carpets or worth waiting for c3 on discount for the stronger power? I realize c3 has normal version as well as a cats dogs version which cost more?

    • +2

I find C3 is a bit quieter as well.

      • It is like $599 atm for the cats and dogs one though as it has a minimal discount off rrp. Just thinking if this model is strong enough.

  • +1

    Own one, great vac

  • Im in. Cheers mate.

  • jb also have it same price

  • +1

bought thank you. My GF always borrowing my S6 so she is getting this for her birthday.

    • +1

My GF always borrowing my S6

      Enjoy.

No more S6 once you're married.

      • Yeah is this an upgrade? I like my s6, does me good when I actually have it in my apartment.

  • Was looking at vacuums for sale on Amazon. How does C1 or C3 compare to this Bosch with 2200w for sale at $199?

    https://www.amazon.com.au/Bosch-ProPower-Bagged-Cleaner-BGL3…

Anyone have experience with this Bosch?

    • +1

      seems to be 199 everywhere

    • +1

Very good vac, quiet as well!

    • +2

Deciding factor should be how cheap bags are. Miele have had the same design for years, aftermarket parts will be very easy to find.

    • +1

Yes, bought exact same Bosch vacuum 5 years ago, it is so bloody good. I was hoping it'd die so I can buy a C3, but it won't die and it keeps on sucking strongly like day 1.

As far as cleaning goes, it's about on par with my previous Miele Cats & Dogs. The Miele has more accessories, but whatever accessories you need missing from the Bosch you can buy from Godfrey's.

      • So even better than this c1?

        • The Bosch is better than the C1. The nominal wattage is 2200w, Max Wattage is 2,400w. It is made in Germany, not a Chinese cheapie.

          • @DeeTrance: Can you use the Miele bags in the Bosch?

            • @he88388: No you can't, they are different brands and different sizes.
