Should I wait for Black Friday sale

    No one knows.

Is it the cheapest on staticice.com.au ?

  • More details required - what are you planning to do with it?

Office apps plus light gaming? Travelling around or mainly WFH?

Purely on specs, CPU and memory are good

Screen is below average for a non-touch Lenovo at this price point

"45%CG" = "45% NTSC colour gamut" meaning the screen won't be suited for anything requiring accurate colours

As a comparison, this is a blockbuster deal for a non-gaming laptop

  • Deme-Yes. Cheapest right now when I check staticice. Also checked google.

Chatgpt-Good point. For Uni. Need to carry between home and Uni. Hence need it to be reasonably light. Also, light gaming. Looking at keeping it for the next 4 years until I finished Uni.

    • This would have been perfect for you

Light, good screen and decent CPU/GPU power

The slowest GTX 1650 dGPU is still easily 50%+ faster than the 660M iGPU

If you don't need the laptop immediately, there should be more sub $1K GTX 1650 deals coming

  • Thanks Chat. Will keep an eye out on Acer. Not sure about the built quality vs T14. Also, hope to get one with good battery life so don’t have to carry charger around. Thanks for your advice so far.

    • ThinkPad T14 would be miles ahead of Acer Swift X in terms of build quality. For $1220 with those spec for a T14 I think it's a good deal. However where do you see the deals with the above spec? The $1220 T14 Gen 3 on Lenovo's website looks a bit weird with specs such as "Up to AMD Ryzen™ 7 PRO" and "Up to 32GB LPDDR5". I suspect it's a website error.

      • Thanks Scotty. Very good pick up. I had a chat with Lenovo. Below the confirmed details from the chat.

This model comes with AMD Ryzen™ 5 PRO 6650U
        16GB Soldered
        512GB SSD M.2 2280 PCIe® 4.0x4 NVMe® Opal 2.0
        Graphics
        Integrated AMD Radeon™ 660M Graphics
        Display
        14" WUXGA (1920x1200) IPS 300nits Anti-glare, 45% NTSC

        Weight
        Starting at 1.36kg / 2.99lbs

        • Sorry now they are telling me Starting at 1.498 kg (3.30 lbs).

      • do you know what the difference between the T14s and T14 is? I've tried looking at the specs in the compare feature on Lenovo, but cant see much difference other than $600

        • T14s — lighter, thinner, but you do sacrifice on things like ethernet port. Edit: Also I think the AMD version of T14s as USB4.

          • @scotty: thanks mate :)

Do you think it worth the extra $300 for the intel core processor?

            • @bes44: i5-1240P is slightly faster, has Intel AX211 for WiFi and has Thunderbolt 4. However I probably wouldn't pay $300 extra for them.

            • @bes44: AMD is more energy efficient compared to Intel. Something to consider if you need longer battery life

  • I ended up getting Thinkbook 14 with MX550. I paid $1271 (including $4 rewards) via Lenovo Education Store after negotiating with a Lenovo Rep.

    • Is it hard to purchase in the education store without being in that industry?

      • You need to be a student and have an .edu account.

    • Received the above Thinkbook over the weekend. Impressed with prompt delivery (around 5 days post shipping) by DHL. Overall happy with purchased. Some backlight bleeding like most IPS panels. Otherwise, good performance for what I need. My next upgrade will be Crucial 32GB RAM and 60W battery (yes, Thinkbook can accomodate larger capacity battery).
