For me it does help with the fuel economy on a Prado 120 series.

Seems like the lowest price atm and also have good reviews about the product.

  • How does it help with fuel economy?

  • +1

Since start using this product, the average fuel consumption is 10.6L per 100KM as opposed to 11.4 prior.

Edit: A full tank used to lasts about 1400KM but these days it does about 1530KM

    • How long does it take to break even the cost of this additive?

    • Yes I've used this in my 120 with 1kd since I changed my injectors 5 years ago. Good stuff, I get high 9L/100km but the injector feedback values are still like new. No fungal or other issues with the fuel system.

      • I wish my 120 1kz would get that economy! Best I've had is 11L/100 and typical is about 13.

        • Tyres play a big part, and can add 1.5L/100k if you change from a HT to an aggressive AT or a MT. Mine was around the 13L/100k mark, but i done the injectors and cleaned the EGR and intake which bought consumption down.

Then i added an OzBush manual mapper which is an EGR delete but also has a fuel trim adjustment, so i wind that down unless i'm towing. I also added a 3" exhaust with high flow muffler, plus a throttle controller which all helped to bring down consumption.

But the 1kz are a bit more thirsty than the 1kd, when i had a 90 series it had the 1kz. They are not the quickest or most economical, but they will generally go forever.

          • @LowRange: Do you have a catch can installed?
In my case (Colorado 7) the catch can makes a big difference. Previously, the intake manifold was covered with sludge, and decarb with spraying did almost nothing. Eventually, I installed the catch can, scooped out the sludge. And now every service I see only some sooth in the manifold, decarb it with Liqui Moly or ThreeBond and have a clean and shiny manifold at the end.
It is almost 7 years old car, the fuel economy is just a bit worse than from new.

    • Not sure how you are working your fuel mileage as 120LCP has a 180lt tank, so if doing 1400 it works out to be 12.85lt per 100k and with 1530 it should be 11.7kpl! Still good improvement.

      • When the light comes on there's still around 20 litres and 200km range, so when doing the sums it's more like 160L as they wont run it to dead empty.

      • I fill up about 160 litres everytime the lights comes on which the counter has indicated about 1500km. Therefore average consumption was calculated to be around 10.6l per 100km

The product (like others similar) keep the diesel injectors clean.

  • Subaru service gave me Additive, asked me to put it in after 6 months

  • Treats up to 1000litres. So OP, do you use 100ml each refuel?

    • I use 200ml for the 175L tank each time I fuel up the car.

      • 175L x $1.8 =$315 to fill up.
Do you just fill it up every time or only if you go for a long trip? Or you travel a lot and do 1500km in a week?
Just wondering on the extra fuel consumption to carry around 175L of fuel if it lasts you for a month or more.

        • +1

120kms to work and back so it'll lasts just over 2 weeks per fill.

          • @Tam: I try to top up to have enought fuel for the planned 1 week travel because I noticed that so much extra weight increases fuel consumption quite noticeably.
Although some people say that it is better to keep diesel tanks full to avoid condensation in the tank.

          • +2

@Tam: Damn, $600 a month for the work commute is absolutely bonkers 🤯
Imagine the savings if you could find a job that's commutable via normal roads.

You're better off buying this in larger quantities if you use it regularly. You can get it for $30/L regular price if you buy 5L bottles and if you're super thrifty scoop up a deal on 20L drum. I don't drive my ute often enough to have a drum of it sitting about which is another great fact about this stuff. Awesome for preserving your fuel.

  • Is this better than tcw3?

  • +2

they also have “fuel doctor” that can be added to both diesel and petrol for 30% off down to $30 for 1L. great product

    • Agree about Fuel Doctor.

I understand people being sceptical and fair enough all the commentary about the cost of the extra load of a full tank etc etc.

What I found is that after buying a 2008 Prius that got me 5.2lt/100km (verified using Fuelly over six months) I whittled that down to 4.6lt/100km which is where it’s been at for the last couple of years.

I’ve not calculated cost in fuel offset by the cost of the product, I’ve done quite a few kays between Geelong and Melb over that time but reckon I’ve at least broke even.

Either way I’ve established for myself the product works and now I barely drive it’s worth while as preservative for what sits in the tank for weeks even months on end.

I use quite a bit less than what’s recommended on the pack. Easy to measure 5ml per 9ltrs so no need to fill the tank to benefit from measured doses.

  • I usually refuel the premium diesel from Shell (so like $0.20 more?) Which is about $10 extra per refuel.

This is a much cheaper alternative ($3.20/refuel) so will give this a go instead.

I think the important thing is using quality fuel instead. No point in cleaning the system, if you're feeding it fuel that'll clog it back up.

  • Noob question, can i use this for citroen diesel car which also takes adblue? Thanks in advance.

  • Fuel doctor is an amazing product that saved us from a tow in the middle of no where halfway between aratula and warwick. Filled up at a big name servo, premium diesel for the drive down from Brisbane to Sydney.

Cruising at 100kph in the ute, sudden check engine light and engine cut out 5sec later with a b double almost ramming us in the ass for slowing down for no reason.
Rolled to a stop, checked everything but nothing obvious. Ute idled but as soon as any revs, check engine light and ran rough and engine died . Scangauge firing off seemingly different engine codes.

Situation was dire after 1hr of trying to diagnose what was going on. This was around the time when lismore was flooded and heavy rains. Then it clicked maybe contaminated fuel. Had 1/2 a bottle left of fuel doctor chucked it the tank. Waited about 10 min, gave the ute a shake jumping on the side steps.

Ute fired up, no check engine, ended up driving up driving to Sydney and back. Mate with me couldn't believe it. Had to ring Racq back to cancel the tow which was supposedly a 2hr wait .

Had been on the fence about the benefits of using fuel doctor even though i had been using it intermittently prior, but definitely a converted user now and carry a bottle in the ute and use every fill.

  • So what are the additives that are in the premium diesel versus the normal diesel? Do they already add the same type of chemicals that are in Fuel Doctor or in the Chemtech additive?
7-11 only sells premium diesel. How does it compare with the Shell or BP premium diesel?
