I've personally found Sofirn's customer service to be excellent, which is one of the main reasons I keep coming back! (My sofirn collection: SC18, IF22A, SP33S, SP36 & Q8 Pro!)

  • Is there any good headlamp for night fishing?
    Sp40a is not enough I think…

    • +4

I can't comment with any authority, as I don't own it, and don't do night fishing. However I looked at a number of websites that review such headlamps for fishing, and the sofirn looks to be brighter, and cheaper than all of the "recommended options" I've looked at so far. Your call of course. I guess if you find it disappointing, there is always amazon returns.

      • Thanks @youknow!
Ordered SP40A, I'm gonna try it.

    • +1

I've used it night fishing. It's pretty good on highest brightness, but chews the battery (I use this when my acebeam headlamp goes flat).

For many years I used the Amazon/ebay chepo ($20 or less) 2x 18650 headlamps for night fishing, and they were pretty good, but brightness dropped off fast on those, plus I'm sure they lose brightness from the led over time.

    • +1

Why is the SP40 not good enough? It's pretty bright on the brightest mode?

      • +2

        Step 1: blind the fish
        Step 2: scoop them up
        Step 3: sashimi

    • As per youknow's comment…..
Don't fish, but maybe look at the HS20 XHP50.2, currently 20% off at sorfrinlight.com (~$A46)

    • I use the sp40a for night fishing. It does the job quite well.

      • Just a question, why do you needs light to fish ? To lure it ? Can you just feel the string moves ?

        • Not while actually fishing or for luring…….more for when you doing everything else eg….tie hook on line….looking for stuff in tackle box……seeing whatever you caught…..walking to the spot if on land

    • i got the skilhunt R04H love it

  • +2

Awesome price on SP36 BLF. Wish they had 2700K.

  • +3

Been planning to pickup a stupidly overpower torch….do I purchase the SP36…

    • +1

They are great value for money and the quality is very good! I'd buy one if I didn't have one or two. Mind you, this is a floody beam, not a thrower

    • It is a nice torch. It's not as insanely bright as the Q8 Pro/Plus, but it's very good for it's size/weight. Very comfortable size to hold and use.
I think it's a tad to big for a pocket (maybe jacket would be fine), so it's more for a bag/backpack, or around the house/camp.

      • I have the SP36 BLF 4000K and SP36 Pro 6500K. Too my eyes the Pro looks more than twice as bright as the BLF. However I use the BLF more because of the nice colour rendering and tint. The SST40 emitters on the SP36 Pro has pretty bad tint. It's not white or blue. Bit of cyan tin. Functional but ugly.

    • Speaking of stupidly overpowered, The Australian has a review today https://www.theaustralian.com.au/weekend-australian-magazine…
of this torch, max 100,000 lumens.
      https://www.imalentstore.com/products/imalent-ms18-100000-lu…

It has a big fan to keep the temperature down. And it is AUD$924

Hey OP. I've been eyeing for Q8 plus to be on sale. Fingers x for that. Anyway, how come you chose Q8 pro and not Q8 plus?

    • I bought the Q8 Pro before the Q8 Plus came out. I do plan on getting the Q8 Plus at some stage, but I have not been able to justify it to myself as yet, given my already excessive collection!

      • Did you ever purchase you Q8 pro on sale?

      • Hey OP. I've never seen Q8 pro in real life before, but i just received my Q8 Plus today. I bought HS20 and Q8 plus both from Aliexpress. I'm charging both now and will try out tonight. I got to say that Q8 plus is like a monster. It's so damn thick.. 😅

  • +8

I don't need one. Which one should I buy?

    • How much buyer's remorse can you handle each time you look at it collecting dust in the drawer?

      • +2

Torches should never collect dust in drawers! Unless you leave your drawers open all the time!

    • +5

Go with the Sofirn BLF SP36. $55.99 is the historical low for that model and it's so f**king bright that if you stare directly into it at full power, it'll blind you to the regret you might otherwise feel for wasting your money.

      • It is a crazy bright torch

  • +1

Thanks op, finally grabbed the sp40 as well

  • Hm have a HS10 on the way, which one to compliment the EDC black hole

  • Wish they had the LT1S on sale, amazing lantern.

    • They did a few weeks ago. Picked one up

    • +3

PS: The LT1S Pro was just released recently.

  • Bought Sp40 from Ali few weeks back, arrived on Tues.
Nice piece of kit, overkill for night walks with the toddler.

  • Looks like all OOS now

    • They are all still available, and i just tested coupons still working on all of them. I'm not sure which one you are trying to buy, but you need to apply both coupons for it to work.

      • +1

Thanks. When I clicked on the links it shows as unavailable. But when I opened the app and searched for it it works

  • Looking for a thrower, can anyone help with what spec I should look at to know that I'm getting the right torch?

    • +1

IF22A is a great thrower, but not on special/sale at the moment. None of the torches listed as part of this deal are throwers :(
Beam distance is probably the best indicator, but only if sellers are being vaguely honest.
As a general rule, the heads on throwers are significantly bigger than the torch body.

      • Thanks for the tips :)

  • I've been waiting for a deal on the SP36 - cheers OP!

  • is there a bicycle mount that I could use with these?

    Both same price

    • 4000k vs 5000k

Shame the 2700k. Erosion is missing.

  • Thanks for the heads-up op, ordered a SC21Pro for the glove box.

  • Coupon for Sofirn BLF SP36 and Sofirn SC18 no longer showing

  • Sofirn SC31 Pro, no deal?

  • Hey @youknow, what would you suggest for the brightest torch with flood and throw for around $150 after discount?

Battery life/reliability is also important as im not keen to keep buying torch every 3-4 years..

    is it the Q8 plus?

    • Hi @donny donny. I don't own the Q8 Plus, but from the sofirn range, it's the brightest and it's in that price range. It's a flood by nature, but it's so bright that it's beam distance is also excellent. I don't know how often and how intensely you'd use it but I suspect that you would get many years out of it. Perhaps batteries might need replacing every few years. Having said this, I can't comment in good faith though, I've only owned the Q8 Pro for about 6 months. I've used it a lot and dropped it twice. It's still functioning as good as the day I got it (as best I can tell!), but in another 3.5 years? I don't know. Sofirn seem to value their reputation and I'm sure if you had a problem, they would do their best to resolve it.

      • Having said all of that. Perhaps for the same money (if you can wait for deals), you could get a Q8 Pro (flood) and an IF22A (thrower). Best of both worlds there ;)

        • Thank you! i will be using it while doing trail walking/light mountain trail walking. nothing too extreme and can wait for discount :)

do you have any experience/thought on other brands like olight or convoy?

          • +1

@donny donny: I actually wonder if the SP36 would be better, the Q8 Pro and plus are very large and heavy torches. I'm not sure I'd want to be wielding a Q8 for for many hours on end. I can post a size comparison tomorrow if you like.
I have a couple of olight, but they are babies (keychain style), but they are also very good. I think they make great torches, but I do find them way too expensive. I also have quite a few older Nitecore torches (5+ years old). They used to be my go-to brand. I don't have any convoys.

          • +2

@donny donny: Here's a side by side comparison.
Q8 in the middle, SP36 to it's right, and the SP33S to the right of that.
I got the SP33S from OS, and it's my favorite "every day" torch. The SP36 and Q8 are getting too big to pocket, unless it's a holster or jacket. I think I would get tired carrying the Q8 for hours though.
(FYI. not my photo, just one I found on the web)

            • @youknow: Thank you, very helpful indeed!

i'll be waiting for the next deal either Q8 or the SP36 in this case :)

  • Bought one of these last deals and they are a good torch!

  • Which one is good for bikes? Not overly bright.

    • Of the ones in this deal, I personally would have said the SC18. However the coupons seem to have expired for that torch now.
The SC21 would be ok, but I think it's really designed to be an easily pocketable torch. To achieve the form factor, your sacrifice battery life (and brightness). I think for riding, I'd rather have longer battery life and a torch that was a couple of cm longer.

      • Yeah longer battery life is def more important than form factor for riding. would you recommend one of these + bike mount over a dedicated clam-on bike LED?

        • +1

I can't honestly say without seeing the dedicated bike light to compare against. I guess it might depend on whether you planned on using it for anything other than riding. If the SC18 was still available at the discounted price, i would have said to get that. For the price, i don't think you're going to get anything else even remotely as capable.

          • @youknow: Thanks, Final question if you don't mind. Which one from the following Soffirn store (or any other not in the list ) would be best if I am looking for a bike light + general purpose torch? tbh I am at a loss for what to choose. would not mind buying from Aliexpress or wait for the next deal to come up.

            https://www.amazon.com.au/stores/page/6998F8AB-7428-42C5-9CC…

  • anyone heard of Temu?

OP the SP33 you mentioned (albeit non-S version) is ~$50 delivered on temu

    SC31 pro is $40

    https://www.temu.com/sofirn-flashlight-s.html

    • +1

I got the SP33S from OS (I don't think it's available locally). I just really wanted that particular model based on it's size and very favourable reviews from enthusiasts. Not to trash talk the SP33v3, but the enthusiast reviews suggest the SP33S is much improved (it is almost twice the price though!).
I don't know Temu. The SP31 comes up from time to time here for around $35-38 from Amazon AU. If you don't have an urgent need, and you think that's a good torch for you, I'd just wait for the next deal to come up.

  • +1

I bought the HS40 from AliExpress after reading this comparison to the SP40:

    https://www.sofirnlight.com/products/sofirn-hs40-rechargeabl…

    • They certainly do make a good case for the HS40 in that! :)

  • How does the SC21 pro compare to the Wuben C3, currently $32 with 20% off?

    https://www.amazon.com.au/WUBEN-Rechargeable-Flashlights-Wat…

    • +1

In terms of size, the SC18 is more directly comparable to the Wuben C3. The SC21 is much smaller, and therefore handicapped by it's battery. I don't own the Wuben C3, which is remarkable, because I do love a torch! I think some early reviews about them not cutting out when charging (ie. over charging battery) put me off a little. I should try one out. There are a few comparisons online if you google.
The Wuben has a tail switch (and therefore not magnetic base). The SC18 looks to be brighter. Unfortunately the coupon seems to have run out for the SC18. I don't think the SC21 is really a directly comparable torch though.

  • SP40A Kit 5000Kv- is the QSE7LTFD coupon working for anyone else?

  • cashback work? if I pay gift card

  • Thx love torch posts. Anyone know of a budget torch (sub $50) that can sustain 1000+ lumens for more than just a minute or 2? As good as these look they only seem to be brightest for a minute or so max.

    • Of these ones, the SP36 BLF will stay above 1000 lumens for over 1.5 hrs. https://zeroair.org/2022/02/22/sofirn-sp36-blf-flashlight-re…

A bit over your budget and deal sold out now unfortunately.

      • You can try contacting the seller (Vivi) in Amazon to request a coupon.
I've done so myself by referencing past deals posted here and been given new coupon code that matches the past expired deal price.

      • Thx yeah hoping for slightly smaller, cheaper, may not exist of course.

  • +1

i deliver groceries at night with both hands pushing a hand trolley. What are my options for lighting my way hands free?

  • +3

I think this has expired. Coupons no longer working: ( shame

  • Yep expired… damn

  • Say, the Sofirn SP40A Rechargeable Headlamp.. How many hours would this last on an average charge?

  • Would avoid buying things that are still micro USB, unless there are no other alternatives.

  • I have a Led Lenser H14R.2.
It has a broken variable focus bit such that the light….. Falls out. Have had very little success looking for parts.
What would be something comparable outside of the Led Lenser scene?

  • The code for the SP40A isnt working for me. So code might now be invalid.

I purchased this one a little while ago which appears to be a Sofirn. I love it, has very low to very bright brighness settings, battery lasts ages and is pretty comfortable for long periods of time. I wear it for everything from jobs outside in the dark to building computers where I need focused light.

I don't use my wuben C3 as much anymore since having the headtorch for hands free.

Is the light positioning to the side better like on this deal better than having it directly in the centre of the band?

  • OP. With the SP40a, on Amazon under descriptions it's written this. What does it mean with a separate battery?

[Versatile & Magnetic] : As a headlamp, it’s not only a powerful headlamp, but a mini headlamp powered by 1x battery(Need to Purchase Separately) with the spare short tube.

    • +1

The SP40 kit comes with an extra (shorter) tube in case you want to use an 18350 (NOT supplied) battery.

As supplied, the torch comes fitted with the longer barrel - for an 18650 battery (supplied). To fit the shorter barrel you simply unscrew the head and tail and screw them onto it.

It's a good idea to use a thread lubricant, esp for bigger torches, lanterns, and especially waterproof torches. I use Lubri-Film Plus but there are many alternatives.

  • Thank you OP.

BTW SC18 code is still working, used it a few minutes ago.

    • YAYY! thank you, I bought one too. Perfect for my next camping trip

  • Can anyone recommend a belt pouch for sc18 please.

    • Comes with a belt clip in case you weren't aware.

      • +1

        Thank you.

I prefer a pouch as I feel it is safer than a belt clip

        • Agree

  • In term of headlamp beam, I just done some YouTube. Found out Sofirn also has HS 40 (2000lm) and HS20 (2700lm).

  • +1

Thanks op. Code still working for SC18.

  • +1

SC18 just delivered. Great light for price.
