Have You Opened a Westpac Credit Card Because of ShopBack Deals?

I finally caved and got approved for a Qantas Platinum ($50 for 70k points) last night as I am sick of missing out on good cashback deals.

Has this marketing strategy worked on anyone else?

You can just open a Westpac Choice Account, which only has a $5 Account Fee ($0 if you deposit at least $2,000 each month).

    • Hahaha whoops, I just assumed it needed a cc. Ah well. Needed to close my ANZ black this month to avoid annual fee so needed a fresh card anyway. 70k pts for $50 is better than a free account anyway!

  • why credit card? i think OP totally misunderstood the concept and got sucked into getting cc.. lol… westpac will be lol… got cha!

  • Yeap and working on wifes now . I blame myself for missing all the action by being too slow .

  • No

  • I'll have one of each

  • I’ve got one already and I don’t even do the trashback “deals”

  • Initially no but now I’m getting FOMO from all of BG’s posts

What deals? Jump through 20 hoops and wait 6 months for $2 cashback?

    • Yeap I need $2 for my trolley .
Oops I forgot I have a trolley key and dump em everywhere .

    • Yeah I don't get it. Why is this $2 cashback so popular? What am I missing?

Hope your timing is not poor and end up like CR and ANZ and they dial it right down now that you have your card!

    • If it's like my stock market timing that is exactly what will happen

  • Got the debit card back after I closed it last year

Applied and knocked back. Credit score dropped.

In the middle of typing credit score is bullshit post. /s

    • Getting denied a credit card doesn't affect your credit score. Something else must have happened to affect it.

Some threads on here are about people having to cut back on their weekly budgets and even people considering living in a car so they can save a deposit for a house for their kids. Then you have people like this who open a credit card specifically to spend money on stuff they probably don't need.

    I love ozbargain.

Already got a westpac debit card to get avoid the $49 credit card fee for the platinum, which i churned. May cancel once I turn 30 as it will start requiring me to deposit $2000 each month to avoid the fee.
