Ducted Aircon - Daikin 12.5kw or Fujitsu 12.5kw

Ducted AirCon Daikin vs Fujitsu

We are looking at a 12.5KW Ducted AC and we're comparing both brands. It seems like Daikin is the superior brand, but wanted to see if anyone has any first hand recommendations here.

Daikin Inverter FDYAN125AV1 vs Fujitsu Inverter ARTG45LHTA 12.5kW

We've had multiple quotes come out, and they are all saying its worth paying a few dollars more for the Daikins. Any advice would be awesome.

Did you check Mitsubishi Heavy Industries? Heard it's equally good.

Haven't yet met an installer who didn't rate Daikin

      That's because Daikin pays kickbacks.

I was going to edit to say these were non-Daikin techs. But I don't think you should get Daikin because competition is an essential feature of capitalism

  • I don't have first hand experience, but I would think either would be good. What is the price difference? And are you including any control systems like myAir, iZone, etc?

For our new house, we went with a Pana 16kW (S-160PE3R) with myAir (11 zones) but we haven't moved in yet.

    • Have the Panasonic with izone - love it! (not that I have anything to compare it to).

  • Go Daiken they are recommended by all the AC contractors I have used.

    • they work until u find a dead gecko in the outdoor unit

      • Yea, surprising how many products don't deal well with shorting out electrical components…

  • Keep in mind, A/C installers will a) pocket more money with more expensive unit (even if marginally) since they will stick a markup on the systems , and b) it works in their favour if they have to come and fix it in 5yrs time

Just because they recommend it, doesn't mean its good

    • From my experience in the industry, most installers aren't interested repairs. Most of the time they recommend due to what gives them the least trouble, be it installation, callbacks within warranty period, tech support etc.

I've had first hand ducted experience in my own house with Mitsubishi Electric (Not HI), and Daikin. And the Daikin is noticeably quieter.

As an architect I've put heaps of different systems in. There's really a negligible difference in price between Fujitsu and Daikin, I'd say 12kw you be looking at a single phase system priced around $10-13.5k+gst generally.

The pricing then goes up on how difficult the install is, how many zones, types of vents, and if you add a controller like a MyZone or a Airtouch. You find certain suppliers will be Daikin preferred installers they install a certain amount of product and they get better pricing. Others install say Fujitsu for instance and they wont get as good as a cost price on Daikin so their pricing is more expensive.

Advantages of Daikin, have their own warranty/repairs/service team, Mitsubishi HI don't, (Fujitsu may also have their own servicing), but other equally as good air con producers, Toshiba, Panasonic don't. Since there's really not much cost difference like $1000-$1800 for my own house I'd just put Daikin.

In my experience, I've found them quieter, quicker start up/ramp up time, more efficient. Again that's a generalisation read the specs between the two for timing loudness etc.

Edit: I've have also lived with both Airtouch and MyZone, and would rate the Airtouch better than MyZone.

      Great post.

I think most of the brand name air conds are all pretty good as long as they are installed properly.

I can concur on the Daikin warranty/repairs/service team.

Logged a warranty claim with Daikin (after the installer came out to check the unit) at the start of January. They came out within 3 days which IMO is excellent in the middle of summer right after Christmas/New Year holidays.

It ended up being a installation fault (water got into the junction box).

I passed on the $300 non-warranty invoice to the installers.

I was responsible for purchase and maintenance of well over 60 units in a secondary college, 20 units in a primary school , and and 20 units in a church over past 20 years. Units combine ducted and discrete units and more than 90% Daikin. Without doubt Daikin were the best performers and the least maintenance requirement, Panasonic were not good at delivering spares, Mitsubishi & also Fujitsu performed well but lesser numbers. Daikin very quiet and effective, parts readily available but rarely required and great check sheet documents for error code diagnosis.

  • Hi , I just recently upgraded from older Fujitsu . I was comparing between ARTG45LHTA(R410) vs FDYA125AV1(Premium version)(R32) vs FDYAN125AV1(R32).

I ended up going with FDYA125AV1 as it was the power efficient machine in compared to the other model . The Premium Model has DC Motor . The daikin model is R32 model vs the Fujitsu have not released the R32 version for the High Static version. Apparently It was suppose to be released in Mar/April when I last spoke to customer service.

I last looked, It still hasn't been released yet.

Apparently R410 is being phased out Jan 2025. Not sure of the real phase out dates.

The unit itself is really quiet and you don't hear it when it is on. They have a quiet mode so the outdoor model will run even more quietly.. The head unit is really quiet even when you stand right next to it .

The one thing that I liked about older Fujitsu - PCBs are located in top of the unit which is enclosed ( prevent PCB from frying with short circuit . The Daikin unit is not in enclosed area . It is above the compressor so gecko can get in from bottom of unit (Expanding Foam can fix that issue) .

In qld, there is Peak Smart unit by energex that energex gives you $400 for ducted system but Daikin does not include comms card($220) to connect the peak smart unit.

    https://www.daikin.com.au/it-time-replace-your-ducted-system

  • Our Daikin ducted is 17 years old, no issues, have had it serviced every 1-2 years.

    • The only maintenance an aircon needs is to clean the filters. Which you can do with a soft brush
