KEF Q150

About this item
KEF Q350 bookshelf speakers deliver detailed natural sound with high clarity and tight bass; The Q350 features the signature KEF Uni-Q driver array with Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) port design
At the heart of the evolved Q Series is the Uni-Q driver array; The signature innovation places the tweeter in the acoustic centre of the midrange and bass cone, bringing the acoustic ideal of a single point source closer than ever to realisation; The result is a more detailed, accurate three-dimensional sound image, which is dispersed more evenly throughout the room than is possible with any conventional speaker; Uni-Q's ultra-wide dispersion is further enhanced through KEF's 'tangerine' waveguide over the tweeter dome
To optimise the high-resolution purity of the Q Series bookshelf speakers, the Uni-Q driver is repositioned to the centre of the cabinet to reduce unwanted internal resonance and adding refinement to sonic clarity and detail; With the addition of the damped tweeter loading tube providing a gentle termination of sound produced from the back of the tweeter, lower treble performance is improved dramatically and a new low-distortion inductor on the crossover provides cleaner bass
Featuring a Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) port design with the port repositioned to the rear of the speaker, clarity is improved by reducing the audibility of the midrange leakage through the port
If space is limited the Q350 will not limit your musical enjoyment, a Uni-Q driver and clever port design let it open up the sound

    tight bass

Tight maybe, but bass? 63hz, not really.

    • +1

"Tight" is normally audio-world speak for "not-deep"! I'm sure the bass response down to ~60Hz is tight, controlled, and excellent. Below ~60Hz? Response drops off a cliff. Having heard these driven well, the bass is pretty good for a 16.5cm driver, and you can boost the bass a bit by putting them closer to a wall (they're rear-ported).

    • The b is silent

  • Q150 model also just dropped to $549 from $700

  • Power source DC??

    • These are passive, the specs suggest amplifier requirements of 15-120 watts.

Too much for the Q150 as a desktop speaker? - Amp suggestions?

    • I use the q350s as a desktop speaker and I run them via HDMI to a cheapo Yamaha receiver.

      • I run them via HDMI to a cheapo Yamaha receiver.

        HDMI?

        • PC to receiver via hdmi? Standard…

    • +1

Depends if you can tolerate their size. If you can, they're good speakers.

Any cheapo small factor 2.0/2.1 speaker amp will be good e.g. SMSL AD18/aiyima a07/fosi bt20a pro

    • I've got the Q350s paired to a Rotel A11 50W amplifier and they sound great for what's all considered entry-level audiophile gear. Paid close to $900 for the Q350s so $799 is a hell of a deal.

Can't speak for the Q150s specifically, but something in the ballpark would be plenty sufficient. Cambridge offer some cheaper amps, but I was talked into going the next step up with Rotel.

    • Not good. They are rear ported. They need room to breathe. Thats why the old Q100s are loved so much.

Are these good for home theatre?

    • +1

They are excellent. A steal at this price.

    • Of course

    • I have the Q350 as my side surrounds, sounds pretty good to me. I know a lot of people use them as their front left and right or even their center.

    • I use these currently for home theatre front l/r speakers, along with q650c for centre and an old sub. Amazing value, and great just as a stereo pair.

Q250c, q600c, or a single q350 placed horizontally are some cheaper alternatives to the q650c to get a centre.

    8b subwoofer 50% off

    • I got it for same price couple of years ago as part of prime day sale. Pairs well with the q350s. You really need a sub with bookshelf speakers

Not sure why someone would neg you for this

    • Geez that's a good deal

  • Won't get them much cheaper than this!

    They would sound amazing

  • Thanks OP, just bought the Q350s in white, with the grills for WAF/kids

Now to consider if I should buy the Q650c or Q250c too while they're cheap as my current centre won't sound match - and will probably be moved to another room/sold with current Jamo 5.1 system

  • How would these compare to Yamaha ns333? Will these be a major upgrade?
