Electric Cable under Garden Tap - Safety Concern

Air conditioning is installed for my unit and the electrician cable outside electric cable under garden tap as shown on photo.

We already paid $850 for the installation of 5kw air conditioning plus $100 base.

The electrician thinks it is safe but I am not comfortable to run the water from the garden tap.

We are asked to pay $150 to re-cable the electric cable.

Will you leave the cable under garden tap or pay $150?

When you pay $850 for the installation, shouldn’t the electrician add new power point next to the air conditioning exclusively for the air conditioning rather than using the existing power point for TV close to the floor like this, besides it is cabled under the tap outside.

that looks safe, its just a quick and easy way of getting power where he needed it to go.
Persoanlly I wouldnt accept. For a nice neat job the conduit should go up to the roof from the source which Im assuming is ur switchboard then across (inside the roof cavity) to where he needs it to come down the wall to the new powerpoint for the a/c

How is water coming from the tap any different from rain from the sky? It gets wet both ways.

While I agree it isn't great routing and I wouldn't be happy with it going around the drain pipe like that, as it is screaming to be broken, so I would pay the extra to have it moved but only if it is going to be routed better say straight up and through the roof instead, rather than around the house.

Sounds like op already spitting chips at the install price as it is. Let alone running it up through the roof and back down.

      This… exactly.

  • Cash job?

Either way if you’re unhappy/ not confident pay the $150?

  • I'd leave it. If you'll lose sleep over it then you could pay to cover it up or whatever.

Why wouldn't that be safe? It's outdoors, it is going to get wet.

Tap water is not the same as rain water.

I think the rules are it should be hard conduit. It's mostly safe right now, but after a year or two of heat and UV exposure..

My concern wouldn't be water, it would be something like a shovel cutting through it. You're doing some gardening, digging, and then something surprises you and you jerk back.

    • Rain water has less electric conductivity than tap water or even zero in pristine environments.

Always hover and watch tradies. Okay a peek every ten mins.

  • Not good practice in my opinion. But what is the other cable coming out of the wall running up the drain pipe. That doesn’t look right either.

  • That's poor work. But it would be triple insulated so you would not have to worry about getting water on it.
