Note: this model has the Exynos 2100 Processor.

    • +1

is that a good thing or bad - at the checkout page

      • +2

Snapdragon > Exynos (Samsung’s own processor)

        • +21

Just to add; Exynos chips are generally slower, overheats and has poorer battery life when compared to Snapdragon.

          • +4

@RichardL: I have this phone, I have no overheat issues and battery life is excellent. While absolutely the Snapdragon is faster the Exynos 2100 in these phones is more than adequate for a mid range phone.

          • @RichardL: is the cpu powerful enough for samsung dex?

        • does iphone have free software similiar to samsung dex?

      • +1

Exynos is bad, I had one (S21 FE) and it would overheat and had really poor battery life… I traded it in for a flip 4 from that jbhifi deal, the upgrade from snapdragon to exynos is amazing.

        • +4

          Doesn't make sense.

          Exynos is bad

          Then

the upgrade from snapdragon to exynos is amazing.

      • +3

The ONLY upside is that if you're a video sample nerd like I am, Exynos has less frame stutter when recording in high resolutions.

Literally everything else is a negative in this era.

The NEW exynos in the A54 is looking pretty great though!

        • -1

          The A54 is really bad.
The benchmark of it's exynos CPU is even worse than A52s snapdragon CPU, which was released in 2021.

          • +1

@AsukaST: True, but the benchmarks dont translate into real world use though. Owning an A52s, the slight stutter, but worse, the focus hunting, at 4k recording is quite notable.

A54 not so; Reviews and sample video are all ravingly positive.

I guess if you game the benchmarks are more important than the image processing.

      • I won't recommend to checkout even though it has great screen n good camera the processor is worse. Recently my cousin got fed up of this device n moved to s23 plus. I would recommend to check the jb hifi deal n buy a s23 or s23plus with trade up you get extra $400 off + device cost. It would reduce the price around $650 to $700. Cheers!

      • Snapdragon is slightly better but it depends on the specific use. Eg.
"The 2 SoCs were similarly matched in terms of CPU performance, with the Snapdragon variant edging ahead for single-core performance & the Exynos model pulling ahead on multi-core scores. However, we found that the Exynos model offered better sustained performance in some tests."

    • What's the significance of that processor?

    • +3

Note: The vast majority of people buying a midrange phone do not care what processor it has.

      • +1

Fair point, but performance and battery life is still important even though it a 'mid-range' phone.

    • +1

      Exynos awwwwwwwwwwwww

    • What's the bargain Snapdragon I can get right now?

      • +1

Moto 82G; its COMMONLY on sale for sub $400.
Last JB sale was $349; and it's never off-sale for more than a month or two.

        • +1

          With complimentary crappy software support!

          • @Murkymerv: I only use one piece of software from them, and thats 'moto actions' which seems fine.

All the other software is 3rd party.

    • And I'm out

    • +1

As an average user coming from a snapdragon phone I've had one for a few months now and no issues with it, though i have the 256GB model that has more ram.

I only ever charge the battery to 85% as set under the battery care settings, take it off charge at 5am and I'll still have around 20% battery by 8pm.
Thats with maybe an hr playing puzzle games, watch few youtube videos and 3 to 4 hrs web browsing (currently only got 54 Tabs open) with some calls and text's chucked in plus couple other information apps that run 24/7.
Very rarely feel any excessive heat from the phone.

      • +1

I thought the Exynos hate was irrelevant unless you use the phone for lots of games. Then I got the S21 256gb and found it overheating to the point of locking up when running google maps whilst in a car cradle on the dash. This was a warm day but the cars AC works well. Now I have to remove it from the case when its on the dash just to run the nav apps, it still gets very warm but at least it doesn't lock up.
Will definitely pay closer attention to heat tolerance for next handset.
Even day to day use walking around listening to some tunes or a podcast it will often start to feel very warm in the pocket

        • I've used it often for google maps when driving and havent encountered that issue, sometimes after maybe an hour or so playing games it'll feel a bit warm on the back, but never warm enough to think its ecessive, certainly no worse than any other phone I've had.

Maybe I've just got lucky with mine..

    • Nothing wrong the the 2100 model of exynos. More than fast enough for all tasks. It also beats equivalent year snapdragon because it supports newer tech with av1 decode. Snapdragon 8 gen 1 could not do it.

    • That's the least of your concern unless you're a gamer. I'd be far more concerned about the fact that it has no SD card slot, at 128GB, it's pretty much useless for video/photos as you'll be using up all 128GB on apps.

  • Just created telstra ID to login their website, good price

    • +2

Maybe try price match at price beat at OW or price match at JB, did it with my Pixel 6a @ JB instore.

Warning: some store person do it, some don't.

  • Only 128GB. Does this phone support sd card?

    • +3

      No it doesnt

    • It does not but google photos is a great backup. I have 128gb and a phone full of dog and baby photos, space hasn't been an issue at all.

  • +2

Very good price. Got it on a Samsung Edu deal for $519.
For those who are wondering… I have the S21, and got this for the Mrs. It's perfect for someone not needing a flagship.
Did consider the S22 for a $130 more. Decided against it. A phone is a consumable. The S21 FE is perfectly adequate.
Side point - missed a $459 deal on EBay because I was not certain if it was good enuf. After research I paid more (arrrg). It was good enuf.

    • +6

tonight I would like you to meditate on why your wife does not need a flagship.

      • +2

        🤣🤣🤣

      • Maybe she doesn't need bragging rights , like you !

  • Considering you can currently get a Galaxy S23 for around $600 via Samsung directly, might be worth spending the extra hundred.

    • How do you get one for $600?

      • Trade in deal

      • Currently the Samsung S23 line is discounted on both Samsung and Jb Hi-Fi. Jb Hi-Fi can be purchased with discounted gift cards, but Samsung also has an additional discount for a newsletter sign-up and also the Samsung education store. I've heard there also may be a loyalty bonus to swap from Apple > Samsung , or say you are considering buying an iPhone but I haven't tried that.

There is also an additional trade-in deal for $400-500 on top of the above discounts + the actual trade-in value of the phone, so for example I traded in an Apple iPhone 8 and got $480 off the Samsung Galaxy S23, plus the $200 discount, plus the 7k Qantas points / 10% off from 20x Rewards points on Gift Cards. There is a higher discount for the S23+ and the S23 ultra as well.

Pretty epic deal for a flagship Samsung Galaxy S23 imo.

        • +1

Wait, what store gives qantas points?

          • +2

@Bruceflix: Purchased Ultimate Gift Cards on the 20x Woolworths Rewards points offer and converted them to Qantas points. Purchased the gift cards using my Qantas Credit Card as well to double dip. All up around 7300 Qantas points from the purchase. Now if you value Qantas points at 2c per point than technically I got the Galaxy S23 for $523 (down from $1349 retail price).

            • @rekke: Such a strategically planned purchase. My OCD loves it.

        • Can you trade in at JB Hifi

          • @rack: No

          • @rack: Yes, you can, that is how I got my Galaxy S23 for around $603

            • @rekke: But what did you trade in? Like a phone you could have sold for $400?

I just did a test with my s21 fe and all I get is $200 off… I could sell it privately for more than that.

              I must be missing something.

              • +1

@c00per: I traded in my Apple iPhone 8 which may be worth $50 on FB marketplace, but certainly will be worth $0 next year when iOS stops being supported. So trading in a phone worth around ~$50 for a $480 coupon was worth it for me. Even for those with older Samsung models, trading in $100 phones for a $500 coupon is well worth it in my opinion.

              • +1

@c00per: You don't even actually have to send it back, just select the cheapest trade in phone which is like $10 and once youve bought the phone get them to cancel the trade in and all you have to do is pay the $10 trade in credit. You can still use the the $10 on the phone or something else at jb(it's comes as a giftcard).

    • $600 is a good deal.

    • great price for it, but if the s21 FE provides what you need why spend an extra $126?

I got the FE in a previous deal and it does everything I need it to well and has great battery life so the extra would just be a waste for a disposable item. sure if you need the extra features or speed upgrade but seems pointless if the FE already meets your requirements.

      • +2

I would look at it a completely different way. You are spending an extra $100 or so for a device which you may be using 1-4 hours per day, every day of your life. Moreover you are capturing some of your most precious memories, moments and achievements with the camera.

You need a fast and responsive phone that allows you to be productive and not get side tracked or hampered by a slower performance. And also this model has is a more recent release and is also their flagship model of the Samsung brand so the longevity of the phone is likely 1-3 years longer than the older model.

Life is not just about saving money, there are times when the additional spend are warranted.

        • +3

and the majority of people, like myself, DON'T use our phones that way. sure if I was using my phone as a camera constantly or spending so many hours a day on it then maybe it would be justified. I take on average a handful of photos a month usually to record something to note for later, none for "precious memory" (would much rather experience something than stare at a photo and miss the experience). Phone longevity is short enough that having the high end really doesn't matter any more. Yes there are times the additional spend is warranted, for most this isn't one of them.

          • @gromit: Each to their own. For the price of a tank of fuel you are getting a device that is superior in every way, better specs, better photos, better performance, that you will be using every day.

Even the resale value will be significantly higher so you could sell it at a later date and earn back the difference via a sale price.

So I'm curious … when you say you 'DONT use the phone that way', do you mean to say you don't take photos, don't browse the web, don't install multiple applications on your phone?

            • @rekke: yup each to their own, can't remember the last phone I resold and personally I will take the extra dinner out or just keep the money in my pocket. The spec increase is simply not worth it, hell I would have stuck with my Xiaomi 9T if I had a choice as the camera and speed of it was more than adequate and it is a good deal worse spec wise than the FE (forced upgrade due to work MDM)

  • is it locked to Telstra? can I use amaysim SIM in it? thanks

    • +2

      These should be outright.

  • Maybe worth to get one for trade-in bouns?

    • That's what I was thinking.

      • Shame that it didn't exist when Flip4 deal was still there.

    • Surely you can buy a used one for less?!

  • Is there a way i can tell which chip i have in my s21?

    • +3

You can download an app called CPU-Z from the Google Play Store.

    • If it's an Aussie phone, then Exynos. But yes check the model.

    • my s21 had exynos. S22 was snapdragon.

      • +1

Dog move considering the 20fe 5G is a snappy.

  • +1

    Why no SD Card Slot

    • So you can upgrade to 256gb in a few months

  • Got this. Great phone. Awesome speakers and battery life

    • Great lack of sd

      • I approve of your username

  • If wanting an s23 it would be cheaper to buy this then immediately trade it in.

  • thanks. getting ine for the family

  • +1

How's this stack up against the Pixel 6a which is like $20 dearer also from Telstra?

Not a heavy phone user, but if pressed I'd say the most important thing to me would be camera.

    • +1

The 6a is like 40% faster but bots are upvoting this one so lol

      • +1

Any opinion on comparison between cameras?

        • +1

I'd like to know this as well. I've currently got an old One Plus 6 which has been good but is on its last legs. I want something with a good camera this time around as that was severely lacking with the OnePlus.

I was starting to look into Google Pixel phones but now this deal is here.

What do I do hehe? I'm not a heavy user by any means, but the talk of overheating and dodgy processor is bothering me a little?

      • The bots have thrown me off this board endless times.
Go To Gerry with his false name dog and donate as much dog food to him as the bank will mortgage your house….Say his affiliates…..

    • Was wanting to know the same thing since the 6a seems to retail for around $598 and the S21 FE around $927 (both current OW prices) i assumed the FE would be better without having time to research and miss out…

      • -1

The iPhone SE 2020 is faster than the FE and 6a so I got that instead lol

        • Lol, the SE's are a modern "dumb" phone so the few things they do take less recourses…

      • it is a trade off, FE beats it in some areas like camera, display, wireless charging and reverse charging, the 6a wins on processor. The FE is definitely not worth it at the RRP, but you would rarely need to pay anywhere near that for it.

        • +1

So you're saying this FE S21 has a better camera than Pixel 6a? I thought Pixel was the bees knees of phone cameras, although I haven't looked into it too much, just heard people going on about them.

          • @placard: The 6a uses the old sensors, only the 6 and 6 pro got the new ones. doesn't make it bad, but it is really just the same as the older pixels.

            • @gromit: I'm guessing if we compare this deal to a pixel 7 then the pixel 7 would definitely be better? (yes I know the price is heaps more though). I'm weighing up a new phone and don't really have a set budget yet.

              • @placard: depends on your priorities, but yes the pixel 7 basically creams both across the board, with the only real downsides the price and it is a little larger if size matters to you.

  • is this version dual sim?

    • -2

Every phone is dual sim capable these days with the advent of eSIMs

    • +2

No it isn't dual sim. Suspect the esim was purposely disabled to segregate the market. I have an s21 FE. There was some initial chatter that it might be enabled in an OS update but no such thing has occurred and I wouldn't count on it.

  • +1

No SD slot is really bad with only 128gb will struggle as time goes by, otherwise will be a great replacement for my wife's Note 5

  • is the cpu powerful enough for samsung dex?

    • The S21 FE should be compatible with Samsung DeX

      • what about the speed? lag? for 2100?
