TeamGroup MP34 4TB Gen3 M.2 NVMe SSD - $319 + Shipping @ PCByte

610

4TB, TLC + DRAM = good deal. The next cheapest is $339 from Centercom, however that deal includes shipping, so the final price may work out better depending on your location. Shipping for my regional NSW location was $11 so I think this deal may be cheaper for many people.

Affordable 4tb m2 drives. Ive been holding off buying a 2tb for almost a year now. The edging is real. And exciting.

      The edging is real

      Too much information

      And exciting.

      Glad to hear

    • +2

I thought I'd never read about edging in a post about computer parts but there it is.

We live in a strange world.

    • I'm edging pretty hard on this one as well, think I will let it go during End Of Financial Year sales this June.

  • When checking comments in previous deals re controllers and DRAM

these specs are based on the 1tb model so may be slightly different, thank you toms hardware

    controller: phison e12
memory: Toshiba BiCS 3 64L TLC
    dram: NANYA DDR3L
    seq read: 3,000 MB/s
    seq write: 2,600 MB/s
    rand read: 180,000 IOPS
    rand write: 160,000 IOPS
    endurance: 1660tbw
    warranty: 5yrs

    • +4

Read/write speed can reach up to 3,500/2,900 MB/s.

Read/Write Its typically higher in higher storage M.2's.

      :)

EDIT: The Pro is on sale too! https://www.amazon.com/TEAMGROUP-Internal-Compatible-Desktop…
      Good Price

On my multiple MP34 4TB units they all had Realtec RTL5762 controllers, and 128 layer TLC flash from Hynix.

      • How do you validate the controller/flash - is there a tool, or is the physical inspection the only/easiest way?

        • +1

Depending on which controller you have, there are different software tools to do this, yes.
          http://vlo.name:3000/ssdtool/ — I used the realtek utility.

    • +3

It's no longer a Phison controller. It is a Realtek, and has a 128MB DRAM cache. Tiny compared to the 1GB DRAM cache that you get on the 2TB 970 Evo Plus.

      • yep, looks like chatgpt has kindly given the correct specs over here :)

      • whats the downsides of a lower amount of DRAM cache? legit question.

        • Can be slower when writing lots of small files. So for example, you have your Steam games library on it. During an update, it will download a large file to the drive and then unpack into many small files. Drives with 1GB of DRAM won't have issues and should be faster in unpacking compared to your download speed. Drives with 128MB DRAM can easily exhaust it and end up being slow. Personally, I'm not fussed if it is a Steam/Origin/GoG/Epic/Battlenet library drive. Those updates can be scheduled for night time and the slower unpacking won't affect you.

Seagate knows there are people out there that will buy this just because it's specifically says "for PS5".
A little bit of research could save you $1000, lol

I couldn't believe my eyes when I was in EB the other day. Imagine dropping 1.5x the price of the console on its storage.

The people downvoting me must have actually believed me.

    • Robbery

    • +1

To be clear though, this one does NOT work with PS5…

    • Haha, at that price, I'd rather buy a 4TB KC3000, slap on a $12 ebay heatsink and install it in my PS5.

  • very nice

  • I literally just went to Scorptec to buy this yesterday (17th), at $339.

The price drops on this particular SSD have been nuts, and they just keep coming!!!

    • technically lost $10, or considering you also have to wait for item to arrive at your doorstep with shipping, might be worth picking up at the higher price.

  • Double-sided?

  • Wow the price drops are real!

Anyone know the cheapest 4TB NVME with TLC + DRAM? Is it worth the price difference for the extra speed? To use as a games drive only.

Anyone know the cheapest 4TB NVME with TLC + DRAM?

      This one I believe.

      • I believe this drive is QLC, not TLC.

        • +4

This MP34 4TB is TLC. The MP34Q is the QLC drive.

        • +2

Yeah as Sleepycat said, this is a genuine TLC drive. I think we've all been conditioned to accept QLC in these cheaper drives for so long that it feels too good to be true when one is still TLC.

    • +4

I bought this drive - returned the Crucial P3 as it would tank in writes and drop to 100MB/sec and 2000ms access time after the SLC buffers were full.
This one continues with a sustained 420MB/sec till the end (and I copied over 1.8TB of data!) so this drive gets my vote.

    • Whoops, I am an idiot. Meant to write the cheapest PCI 4.0 NVME with TLC + DRAM!

Wondering if the price difference between PCI 3 and 4 4TB is worth it

      • It's not usually whether it is PCIe 3 or 4 that makes the difference. They seem to charge a whole lot more for PCIe 4 4TB drives, but also give a significantly more amount of DRAM and a much faster controller. If you can find one with a faster controller and more DRAM, then it is worth the price difference. If you can only find something with a slower controller and less DRAM like this drive, then the price should be lower to match the performance you are getting. At this price, I'd buy the drive, as 4TB is almost non-existent in PCIe gen 3, and very expensive with PCIe gen 4.

    • +1

      Nice, 128gb of DRAM cache

      • +1

Good pickup - it is actually 128MB

        TM8FP4004T0C101

        Controller: Realtek RTS5762
        Memory: Hynix 128L TLC
        DRAM Cache: Nanya 128MB DDR3
        Sequential Read: 3500 MB/s
        Sequential Write: 2900 MB/s
        Random Read: 450,000 IOPS
        Random Write: 400,000 IOPS
        Endurance (TBW): 2400 TB
        Warranty: 5 Years

At this price, the best budget 4TB NVMe drive since the Crucial P3 uses QLC

  • +2

From my experience and usage requirements, TLC + DRAM cache > High Read/Write speeds (that isn't TCL+DRAM).
So this NVME is pretty good for the price.

  • I reckon we'll see these going for 200 buckaroos at some point in our life
