260

I was scrolling through the Centrecom Autumn Clearance page, seeing all the usual tiny discounts… then all of a sudden I notice this monster of a deal.

32", 4K, 150Hz, FreeSync Premium Pro, built-in speakers, 99% Adobe RGB coverage, 113% NTSC coverage, pre-calibrated… for $709. The next cheapest price is $1399 at Austin Computers. This is a much better deal than even the Dell G3223Q back in March.

To further put this in perspective, the American price on Amazon US is $899 USD, which is about $1337 AUD… and it's a $100 discounted price…

Centrecom have a couple more good ViewSonic Monitor discounts too:

ViewSonic XG271QG 27" 240Hz IPS G-SYNC Gaming Monitor $619 (was $1099): https://www.centrecom.com.au/viewsonic-xg271qg-27-240hz-ips-…

I was looking at these. Lack of hardware unboxed reviews on the XG271QG has me wary. Price is bloody excellent and I was eyeing the acer model equivilent at $800 or just saving the dosh and getting the Dell 165hz for $350ish.

Anyone have experience with Viewsonic these days?

    • +1

What kind of experiences are you referring to/asking about?

I've been using an XG2431 for 10 months now and haven't had any issues.

      • +2

No issues is a good report. Just been 10 years since I've had a viewsonic monitor and reviews these days don't seem to be heavy on the brand. Where as LG's and ASUS's there is endless content to view to find the short comings of models.

The XG271QG at this price is far cheaper than its competitors and has a proper gsync module.

So Im kinda just searching for a reason NOT to buy it over the acer or alienware models haha.

I've checked that one out. Seems to touch on everything. I tend to dig pretty deep when I go for reviews. Spoiled by years of youtubers measuring everything and putting results into a chart haha.

I guess viewsonic is still a well known brand, 3 year warranty and the price is good.

        • First gen QHD 240Hz IPS isn't worth your time. Look for 2nd gen panel options, which will have motion clarity more in common with the QHD 360Hz ASUS PG27AQN (though don't buy that, it's first gen QHD 360Hz IPS…).

          • @jasswolf: How do you know if its first or second gen?

            • @King181: Release date. Anything basically before that PG27AQN is first gen. If you want to double check the quality levels, you can find a bunch of QHD 240Hz IPS reviews from HWU, TFTCentral and the like, where proper response time testing is shown.

Ignore RTings for that, but you'll be able to see the update in any motion pursuit photography they do. None so far.

          • @jasswolf: Would the OC 1440p models all be second gen? ie the 280hz alienware, 270hz acer etc?

Also to add. Because the viewsonic has a gsync module the motion clarity should be better no?

            • @Justin Powell: No, I'd see those as iterative steps to making the leap. Basically the 2nd gen 240Hz in this case is a lower binning of the first gen 360Hz.

All of this seems to be on a climb to 500Hz LCD, at which point I think there's going to be a handover to OLED and other technologies. Really exciting that this is all happening over the next 4 years.

        • Fair enough, so do i usually

    • Depends on your usage. I don't recommend the Viewsonic, even at $619.

Some reported the ViewSonic with flickering issue. Main problem is the ViewSonic has mediocre (if not awful) color contrast and accuracy as in https://www.reddit.com/r/Monitors/comments/y1e6hm/viewsonic_…

If you also look at acer monitor at $800 I recommend the AW2723DF at $786: QHD, IPS at 280Hz. Highly recommended by rtings: https://www.rtings.com/monitor/reviews/dell/alienware-aw2723…

If you don't mind preowned, look at Samsung Odyssey G7 or G6 on ebay, there are also some very good value monitors there

TL, DR: Dell and Samsung Odyssey are your go-to for gaming
      Dell 165Hz for $350 ($331 to be exact), it's a no-brainer purchase
Arguably best gaming experience in your budget: AW2723DF at $786

      • That reddit link doesn't really say much. Someone had an issue with OSD menu.

One of the replies suggested color accuracy wasn't the best at low brightness, but also said it was outstandingly accurate at high brightness.

        • You apparently don't want it to be 'painfully bright' to have outstanding accuracy color. But I agree that reddit link is only for reference

      • How did you get $786? Student discount?

      • I think one issue with the alienware models is that there is no arobr rgb mode? Or vrr cannot be active when overdrive is enabled. Something like that. Ill need to look it up. But i found something that was a deal breaker for me. Ill comment when i find a link.

    • I had a viewsonic 32" 4K screen for about 9 months before a green line of dead pixels appeared randomly in the middle of my screen.

Viewsonic were fantastic to deal with. All I had to do was send through my receipt, (which was from JW computers, not viewsonic) a photo of the issue, and they offered me a replacement model worth double the price because they no longer had stock of my model. I didn't have to dick around with sending back my faulty unit and they were extremely quick to respond.

      • Wow that’s great. It’s a bit hard to believe since normally they must collect the faulty unit for quality check and refurbished sells

        • The model was end of line so perhaps they weren't able to use any of the parts. Unsure.

  • Damn, high refresh rate is the killer feature these days, isn't it? Aside from OLED, I guess. I just want a 27" fast VA panel at around $500 for that contrast, maybe 120 Hz tops.

    • That technology is somewhat available to you for sub $400 if you know where and when to look, but it's only worth sub $300 IMO. 120Hz isn't going to give you great motion.

At $500-$600 you should be able to get QHD 240Hz fast VA on sale, where the fast response times will actually make a difference, but it won't be flat. Samsung G6 is probably what's available, and also what you'd prefer.

      • Seeing benchmarks for $1000 graphics cards struggling to get much over 100 FPS in some triple A games at 1440p really puts it in perspective for me as someone who doesn't want to commit to buying cards too much over $500. So super high refresh isn't a priority for me. I'm not fussed about motion clarity, I just hate the inverse ghosting effect that is apparent on VA. At least the ones I've demoed where scrolling in dark mode apps makes text look bad or even unreadable. Not a fan of curved screens for non-gaming uses either because of how it makes straight lines look bendy.
If it comes down to it I'll probably go another IPS but after watching an OLED TV the weak contrast is really apparent, but OLED monitors just aren't suited for my use case, so VA is the next best option it seems like.

        • Take a strong look at the G6 should it dip to $600, it really is exceptional even compared to the original G7, and don't take too much stock in games benchmarked at Ultra without image quality tweaks and ML acceleration techniques like DLSS.

Also, don't take much stock in 4070 pricing, it's on its way down already.

          • @jasswolf:

Also, don't take much stock in 4070 pricing, it's on its way down already.

Oh, I haven't been, even at its lowest it'll probably be $200 out of my budget anyway. :P

            • @Diji: $930 now, hopefully on its way to $730 soon.

              • @jasswolf: Even $600 is pushing it for me, tbqh.

                • @Diji: 4060 Ti it is then, unless you're willing to wait for a refresh (4070 Super?) or next generation. For QHD, 8 GB is probably putting a lot of pressure on hitting all the marks for upcoming asset streaming tech, but I back NVIDIA's engineers over their competitors.

But please do allocate decent money towards your monitor and your audio setup, these are things that stay with you for 5-10 years, and they have a huge say in the quality levels of what your system is outputting.

                  • @jasswolf: Yeah maybe, I'll see what deals SIs like Enigma put out since I need a whole system anyway and the budget goes further with those these days (which sounds wacky as hell to me but those are the times we live in). More likely it'll be a 3060 Ti or something though.

    Seems to have issues?

Read the comments of the video. There is an easy fix in the settings he neglected to try.

      • +2

Yeah true, disable PureFX. But to be fair the comment was made after he returned the second monitor.

The black banding is still an issue though but someone said it's due to the monitor being 10bit and that's how it makes compressed videos appear?

Good price on that XG271QG, nice find.

  • +1

These are all solid deals, nice work.

  • Elite XG271QG or acer xb273u-27 or lg oled 240hz if it was also priced at $799? What do you guys think?

    • Having the same battle myself mate. Plenty of thorough reviews of the acer and lg models but the View sonic not so much.

The elite xg271qg does have a gsync module. And is still cheaper. so that is a big win. Usually you can expect to pay $200 more for the physical module.

    • I'd want the OLED to be glossy, just because this matte finish seems to be poor for general use.

  • Why would you say this is better than the Dell model?

    • ^ same. I dont really see how is this better, the G3223Q also have freesync premium pro, 95%dci p3, 99%srgb, 1ms, lose only 6hz so thats like literally nothing. And most importantly I dont see how viewsonics three year warranty will be anything like dells 3 year premium panel exchange program - that alone means im much more likely to buy the dell for the peace of mind.

      • The XG320U has better color range and ergonomics. If we're judging purely by specs and price, the XG320U represents better value.

    • I didn't necessarily say it was better, but at $709, it's better value.

      Dell G3223Q is 144Hz
      ViewSonic XG320U is 150Hz

      Dell G3223Q covers 95% DCI-P3
      ViewSonic XG320U covers 116% DCI-P3

The XG320U also has superior ergonomics, comes with a built in mouse bungee and headphone hook.

      • XG320U is using the same panel as PG32UQ

  • wow, I say!

I recently had a chance to deal with an XG320Q and this is the best gaming monitor you'll ever trip over backwards!

  • Thanks OP, I have had an email Alert set up for months for a monitor with EXACTLY these specs. I just bought a 4080 rig from TechFast and I need to replace my $200 4k32" Phillips monitor. Thanks again!

  • Are these monitors ok for a PS5?

    • it has HDMI 2.1 so yes…

  • $56 postage to Perth (remote postcode)

  • My viewsonic VX2758 broke after 3 years so I'm encouraging people to avoid them

  • ViewSonic XG320U 32" 150Hz UHD 1ms FreeSync Gaming Monitor, the 709$ 4K monitor is now out of stock.

  • Received mine yesterday. The brightness is very mediocre, the panel itself feels good tho. Its just the brightness that is the issue.

    • did you turn HDR on?

      • I did try HDR, but then the brightness went even lower so i went back to SDR.
