5G Mobile Broadband $59.90 400GB Per Month for 6 Months ($64.90/Month Ongoing) @ Tangerine Telecom

520

Tangerine Telecom has reintroduced a mobile broadband offering to their plan range;

$59.90 will get you 400GB for the first 6 months followed by $64.90 thereafter.

Uses the Telstra Wholesale 3G/4G & 5G networks so speeds will be capped to 250Mbps on 4 & 5G.

Nothing will ever beat the 1TB Optus plan Tangerine used to offer but this is a pretty good alternative to the Belong deal which is $5.10 more a month (after the 6m promo price).

  • Is it month to month

      • So part of telstra network does that mean it depends where you live for coverage.

        • +1

usually telstra wholesale (this one) vs full telstra only makes a difference in rural areas

  • I used to have Woolworths 5g that uses telstra service and the speed was really good (over 100). I think the speed with tangerine will be the same.

Not a bad idea to use it as home internet if you're living alone and don't need too much data. Should be okay for daily use with regular streaming.

I used to use telstra 400gb data plan @ $70pm for over a year and never ran out. Sadly they bumped it to $85 pm and i had to switch to a cheaper with limited speed.

    • i've recently switched over from the 400gb Telstra plan to the Optus 500GB at a lower cost - can i ask which plan you moved to and how limited is your speed? Thanks!

    have to buy 5g MODEM

    • +3

Nah you can byo a compatible 5G device, or a 4G one if you are like me and don't care about the 5G part

    • +3

I get 250Mbps with 4G on Tangerine, an extra 70Mbps on top of that with 5G activated

if you are okay with capped speeds of 50/100 Mbps then TPG 5G home broadband is better deal (+ is ongoing rate).

Although technically that is home broadband deal but one of my friend's on Vodafone's 5g home broadband who moved his modem location without informing vodafone was able to access internet fully fine. Suggesting that is more like 5G mobile broadband too (just with bigger heavier setup requiring 5G modem provided by them).

    • +1

      Not available in most areas

      • +1

technically as I said suggesting it to be a like a mobile broadband means, that you can order at your friend's place, or something and then take modem from there.
And it should drop down to 4G if no 5G there

        • TPG even lets you set a delivery address to the physical address when you sign up.

Do you have personal experience with TPG 5G and if so how reliable is it? I’ve got the TPG 4G home wireless and when I initially got it in October 2021 it was rock solid until late April 2022 when it went downhill. Very slow speeds (4Mbps down at times) and DNS errors. They finally fixed it in June 2022 but I’ve never had a month where it’s been consistent. Recently (early April) it was rubbish again but for the last 1.5 weeks it’s been good. I’m literally 100m away from the Vodafone tower and every time I have speed issues, others on Vodafone in the area also have issues. TPG always tell me to hard reset my modem and move the modem closer to the window but I keep telling them it’s not on my side where the problem is and that it’s Vodafone. One of the senior technicians at TPG i spoke with a few weeks ago told me other customers had also complained and it’s a Vodafone issue.

I’m hanging out for the 5G to become available in my area to switch to that but I’m not confident Vodafone has their stuff in order. Interested if anyone in Sydney is using the TPG 5G home wireless and if it’s been good for them.

      • +1

I have not used TPG personally but I would assume it to be a replica of vodafone (just like boost and telstra network is same). Moreover, TPG and vodafone are technically co-owned now with their merger.

In your case it may just be a $h!!ty vodafone signal to be problem,

        • +1

Thanks. It’s not the signal that is the issue, rather 99.9% of the time when I have download speed issues, it coincides with when Vodafone is doing planned maintenance (I check the maintenance schedule on their site). I’m currently on a $10p/m discount for 4 more months. If 5G doesn’t become available by then, I’m done with TPG and may try this offer.

          • @D1977: When testing for 5G (and its speeds) test using a mobile sim card rather than relying on vodafone/TPG website

      • +2

I'm on the ~$50 TPG 5G home wireless for my business. It's so bad that I ran out of words to describe it. Unbelievably unstable. Keep dropping out

        • Thanks for that. I hold no confidence then. I’ll see out the next 4 months on my TPG 4G plan and go elsewhere that is not using Vodafone.

        • I have it at my home and work from home, I've not had a single issue with Vodafone 5G in my home (5 bars where I use it).

  • Any plans out there that may suit my criteria?
    - more than 400Gb data
    - I don’t mind lower speeds, using on Nighthawk M1 4G
    - cheaper or equivalent to OP
    - Telstra or Optus networks

For example, something like Felix but not on Voda (I like Voda but it simply won’t work where I’m moving).

    • +1

Haven't seen any plans with more than 400gb apart from the Home Broadband plans that might be stuck to just one place.

    • There is only 3 networks Telstra,Optus and votafail. Everyone else uses them and I hate to say it but… Telstra is the best when it comes to mobile networks. (they spent over $200m just the 5G licensing)

      • Exactly! I hate their customer support but their network is the best and fastest speed, can't compare it to Floptus and Vodafail.

        • +1

A mate once had vodafail down for the whole day (local tower), no text message or email saying sorry, all 3 have bad customer support.

  • Does anybody know of a good Sim 4g/5g modem to support multiple users on Telstra or any network?
I have tried some officeworks Sim modems and their speeds don't even come close to me using my lg50 on wifi hotspot.

    • Telstra modem (gen 2/3) if you have any from the previous deals. Or even Huawei B818. You can buy these from FB marketplace.

      • Huawei B818

        This

      • Would this or the Telstra one have better 4G reception than my Netgear Nighthawk M1?

        • +1

can't say for sure as Telstra 4G/5G sucks in my area. At least the Telstra modem is free and I bought the B818 for under $50.

    • I wouldn't recommand TP Link 4G DECO. They required an account to set up the modem and downloading their app that only works if you have internet.

  • would 400 GB be enough ? any 1 TB packages ? I have Fetch TV etc

    • If you want 1TB package, you can only go with Telstra directly, it's $85 per month, and sometimes they offer a $10 discount for 6 months.

  • Why would you settle for 400GB when
Optus TPG, iinet are offering unlimited 5G up to 100mbps for $69.95

    • +1

Those plans you mentioned are very good but limited to only certain areas.

    • None of the telcos allow me to sign up for any 5G unlimited broadband plan but they allow me to get something like this plan.

  • What speed does it drop to once you use included data.

    • +1

Zero, once its all used the connection is suspended until day 1 of the next billing cycle

  • The tangerine plan or the Telstra prepaid 300gb for $70 a month? More expensive but faster speeds. I probably only need 300/400gb data. Tempted to go tangerine

    • Did you end up trying out Tangerine?
If so, whats your verdict now?

      • +1

Yes— tangerine was awesome, but I kept hitting the data cap. So in the end I got rid of it and went TPG Home 5G plan. I think it's $60 a month, worth looking into.

  • If someone has a refereal code for a new nbn connection, please shoot me a message.
    Thanks
