Don't forget to combine with $30 off perks voucher

  • The i7 version looks tempting. Any reviews from someone who had it before? Dont really know LG for making laptops.

The i7version also has an extra SSD slot and can install M2(2280). Any recommendation on which SSD to add? Looking for 1TB at least.

I have a different model of the gram. You have to be OK with it being very bendy and not feeling solid. Because it's not meant to. It's suuuuper light.

Aside from that, mine has quite a dim screen, but that's the only down side. I really love being able to slide it into a backpack and barely tell its there. I do have a padded sleeve in my backpack for it, I would trust it just loose.

      • Thanks for the response. How is the battery life? LG claims it to be 20+ hours

        • I got mine second hand, and it's a few gen old. Even then it's a good 10-12 hours depending on usage.I wouldn't be surprised if you could hit 20 hours with an unusable screen dimness and not doing much - and like 14 - 16 with a more realistic usage profile. That's a pure guess since my experience is with a completely different laptop.

I've got the i5 17". The cooling is pissweak to get the weight down so low, it's okay while doing basic stuff but throttle's pretty hard when asked to work (~2.4ghz), the i7 has the same cores just a higher turbo but the same cooling so you likely won't see a difference. LG really should have stuck with the lower power U-series chips as you cant really utilize the extra power of these P's.

There would be a spare M.2 slot in the i5 version if there's one in the i7 of the same size.

And battery life is where these things shine, both my 16"11th gen, and 17"12th get a full day of general use

  • LG, they still make laptops?

    • +3

LG is second or Third laptop company in S.Korea. and Newjeans (which is girl singer group) is Grams Ambassador.

    Here is the review. …

    https://www.notebookcheck.net/LG-Gram-14-2022-laptop-review-…

I like the review of the silent mode .. laptop didn't really even function.

And 11th gen is about the same speed due to thermal limitations

Having said that .. I love them .. but really need touch OLED screen and 13th gen

I seem to recall LinusTechTips (or at least one of their subsidiary channels) was pretty unimpressed with the latest iteration of the Gram, despite Linus himself being a massive fan of multiple previous versions.

This is just off the top of my head, mind you, but if you're interested in purchasing it maybe worth investigating.

LG have been making laptops for at least 20 years, here's one from 2007 https://techtickerblog.com/2007/01/02/lg-xnote-z1-series/ 🤷🏼‍♂️

This link shows a post from 2007 so how is that 20 years.

        • +2

          2023 - 2007 = 20

          • -1

@kev98: Are you serious 2023-2007 = 20? Omg how stupid can people be. Worse still other people even haven even supported it.

        • This link shows a post from 2007 so how is that 20 years

Sorry, I don't understand the question.

          2007 was 16 years ago, not 20.

I'm considerably less surprised that people are incapable of doing the 10 seconds worth of research required to avoid making a tit out of themselves in service of absolutely nothing

      • i think they dont care so ……

      • -6

Only the ignorant would make such a comment.

    • I’ve had one of these (17 inch) for 3 years and it’s very good. I prefer it over the iPad given its weight advantage.

IMO it’s very high quality for what it is - the lightest laptop on the market

      • +1

+1, i have the 16" and it is good. the flex doesnt bother me as i know it is weight saving.

  • How easy is it to open and add more given 256 is a bit low even for an ultra portable.

    • +1

Very easy, I've added an extra TB to both my 11th & 12th gen Grams.

    I own 3x LG Gram
    2x 14" 2022 - intel 1240p i5
    1x 14" 2021 intel 1165g7 i7

    Both 16gb ram.
    Dont buy 8gb!!!

Battery life is fair but not even 10 hours on either. Around 8hours max.

Very light 990grams great for travel.

    2 pcie nvme ssd slots.

Performance no throttling for me but yes it gets hot.

    Speakers are weak. Disappointing.

Screen as someone else said is not that bright. Only outdoors weak. OK indoors though no issues.

LG software is annoying for downloading drivers but not a deal breaker.
Intel has most of the drivers these days

GREAT port selection best in class

    2x USB 3 type A
2x Usb c thunderbolt plus charging
    3.5mm audio
    Full size hdmi
    Micro sd card

    Good keyboard comfortable typing

    Good trackpad large and clicky

    Overall 8/10.
    Recommend it.

    Questions welcome

    • I have a question. Since the screen is light and flexible, how does it hold up over the years of use? I was in the store today and it seems the screen hinges are pretty loose. Is it the case with yours?

      • +1

I've been daily driving a 16" 11th gen for coming up on 2yrs now and the hinges are exactly the same as the day I got it, that being just loose enough to open one handed under it's own weight. My 17"12th gen is pretty much the same but has only had a fraction of the abuse of the 16"

        • Thank you for sharing your thoughts. I am just a bit concerned of the flexible screen. I am thinking of LG gram 16 12th gen i7 or Asus zenbook 14. Primarily want to use it for work related stuff like looking at the chart and excel on the go. Do you have any recommendations for one or the other?

          • @enghone09: Flexible screen!? … What do you expect for such amazing light weights .. it's not like it is going to break just because there is minor flex.

            • @matt-ozb: @matt-ozb My concern was how durable it is - considering it is so flex.

          • +1

@enghone09: Not sure about the asus, but of the Grams I would save $100 and take the i5, the anemic cooling solution wont get you any better performance with the i7, and could actually reduce battery life with the slightly higher base speed.

    • @fatjoze Please see my question below.

      • The screen does feel weak and flexible yes.

My 11th gen 2021 model is 2.5 years old now and no damage or issues.
Hinge is perfect not loose or wobbling.

BUT. I take extreme care of laptop.
        Always in padded carry case.
other users might be more rough and break it easily.

i have travelled in airports with it inside carry case about 30 times taking it in and out of bag putting in tray for x-ray.

Keep it in a padded carry case you will be fine.
For productivity and travel it is the best laptop available as 1kg and full ports.

        1 extra comment.
It runs hot. Fan is usually on.
But very quiet which is great.
You barely ever hear the fan.

        • @fatjoze Thank you for your response. It really helps me with purchasing.

          • @enghone09: It's an excellent laptop overall I recommend it. Compare to asus I would NOT buy asus zenbook. Had bad experience with their older version like 10years ago and current design is too flimsy.

    • Have you noticed any improvement on battery life? In the reviews, people are saying they are getting full day battery life (20 hours).

I have the 2021 LG and yeah the battery life is the major downside. I think I only get about 6 - 7 hours tops.

      • Battery life is not 20 hrs lol. 6-8 is what I see

    • What is the fan noise like?

      • +1

Fan noise is OK very acceptable low

  • +1

They seriously need to start shipping with 32gb ram as the new standard.

    • +2

Yeah I'm not sure why we (Aussies) still only get the gimped 16GB, and the latest gen models seem to have jumped another ~15% in price over last gen here.

      • Unfortunately 2023 models have DRR5 ram which increases cost for minimal gain.

The 2023 14" of this same laptop is currently around $2300 in JBHIFI new release.

I went there yesterday and looked at the 16" 2023 model.

Kind of disappointing. No physical exterior changes. You can't tell at all unless you go to settings and check cpu is 13th 2023.

The interior has spare room around the speakers so they could have upgraded them. I've wondered if a 3rd party speaker could be installed.

Also battery size could be bigger although that would increase weight.

The 2023 screen no changes still same frame/bezel/setup.

There is 2023 style model coming with OLED and less ports. Waiting to see how that looks

        • just wait for the amazing price with the OLED screen .. guess it will be minimum of about $3K!

The Asus OLEDs are the best value.

          https://www.centrecom.com.au/laptops?b=1

        • My 2022 has LPDDR5, albeit 5200Mhz instead of the 6000 in the 2023's, otherwise the PCIE4 SSD, body, battery, and screen is identical.

The 2022 17"/i7/16GB/1TB retailed at JB for ~$3200 on release, and 16"/i7/512 was ~$2800. Same 2023 configs are $3600 and $3300

          • @CH: That's a huge price jump
Im really shocked how much LG increased price.
But they will eventually drop as their laptops don't sell as much as others
