1 Year Accor Plus Explorer Membership Family and Friends A$199 @ Accor Australia

3070

Saw the deal via Hong Kong

https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/767946?page=1

Saw in comments there's a $199 deal for family and friends but the link didn't work for me so I contacted live chat and they gave me a link that worked for me. I thought it deserved it's own deal as the benefits as stated by commenter included keeping your Accor points plus no need for VPN, no currency conversion plus it's about $10 cheaper.

Accor Plus Explorer benefits include one free night accommodation, 50% off dining when there's two people, access Red Room 50% off deals and silver status

EDIT: Thanks to @vbhaven I logged on to cashrewards in mobile browser, then earched Accor, followed the link, then copy and pasted the link from this deal and it tracked. 7%. Good luck!

  • how do we check whether a property is eligble for the free night?

    • Unfortunately you have to ask an existing member to check. I haven't joined yet, I need to do it later tonight

      • +6

I'm an existing basic member, i'll take a look around.

I have an existing booking coming up, so this would work out cheaper if i buy this membership and rebook. But it'd defeat the purpose if i buy the membership and then find out my hotel isn't available or eligble on the date I need it.

        • +3

List your hotel and dates, someone will help you

          • +1

@NoApostrophePlurals: I ended up calling the hotel directly, they confirmed that the date was available and I immediately signed up while on the phone. Then they put in the new complementary booking and cancelled the old one.

Downside was breakfast & parking wasn't included like it was on my original booking. But once i add those in as extras it's still cheaper.

So thanks for the post! Great deal

          • @NoApostrophePlurals: Would someone be kind enough to tell me if there's any free booking available Friday 28th April in Melbourne CBD. Staying in any reasonable hotel (currently have a booking Mantra 100 exhibition). Thank you!

        • I'm looking at 29 Aug - 04 Sept - 2 adult 2 children
Sofitel Fiji - "Family Room" - 6 nights total stay
          4569,40 $AU (6743,10 $FJ)

How much is it with Accor Plus membership?
          https://all.accor.com/ssr/app/accor/rates/5706/index.en.shtm…

          • +1

            @kiwijunglist: Family room incl. Breakfast - 7834,65 $FJ

Luxury family room incl. Breakfast - 8404,65 $FJ

Free night is not eligible for this booking. But, they also offer this:

            Best price guaranteed !
If you find a cheaper price within 24 hours of booking, we’ll give you up to 25% off your stay at participating hotels.

            • @hsingh1186: So Accor price is more?

              • +1

                @Savas: Seems that way

              • +2

@Savas: I don't think I have seen an actual hotel price cheaper than a booking company by miles. Will always check but they are always dearer

          • +2

@kiwijunglist: I would avoid Sofitel Fiji, bunch of snobs offering minimal service. OVERPROMISE and NEVER deliver. Worst experience out of all Fiji hotels for our two week trip and they were the most expensive per night. Otherwise their rooms are nice but average atmosphere and variety of dining. Hilton was much better but slightly older rooms.

Suggest you avoid Nadi resorts altogether and go to the islands. For example Musket Cove Island resort was great and is all inclusive (3 meals each day) on some rooms.

          • +7

@kiwijunglist: Christ, $4500 for 6 nights accommodation. I would of thought that included airfares and 3 meals a day..

    • +1

Generally most properties are eligible except for a couple of high end ones like raffles in Singapore (from memory). Other standard high end lines such as Sofitel are available as long as it’s not a standard blackout date.

Also another note re: free night. It typically only works out to be about ~250-350 off. If you pick a higher end room, they’ll still charge.

Having said that, I find accor to be quite worthwhile and I’ve certainly had my fair share of freebies and luxury stays that would far outweigh the slight costs incurred through the membership.

      • They subtract the cost of the most basic room, you can pay the difference for a higher room still

      • Thanks for that. It does seem tempting and seems like the hotel i'll be staying at is on the list.

The next issue is that my booking is on friday, so availability could be a problem.

I'll have to contact the hotel i guess.

      • thanks

do you have the NZ one?

      • That's great but also beware blackout dates

      • That works, the hotel was on the list. Thanks for that.

      • Not knocking your submission as it is helpful but unfortunately perhaps this list is now old (2021) and as a result outdated and/or it is not reflective of reality.

As an example, I've been trying to book Peppers Moonah Links Resort Mornington Peninsula with Accor Plus Stay and it explicitly told me this property is not available.

If anyone has had a better experience & was able to book that property for an Accor Plus Stay, please reply.

    • Generally speaking mid and top range hotels like Novatel, Mantra, Sofitel do have the free night offer. Ibis or Ibis Budget are excluded.

  • +5

Is it a deal if you don't have to jump through hoops to get it?

In all seriousness though thanks OP, glad I didn't sign up yesterday.

    • +5

You better jump on some RRP PS5s and RTX4090s then! :P

    • Yes

  • Thanks, I was due for renewal

  • +1

Accor are so desperate for cash flow.

    • +7

All Hotel groups are. Covid effectively ruined them.

  • ordered, thx op

  • Didn’t the people who purchased this yesterday actually pay more?

    • +5

      Yes. They did. Lol

      • Glad I waited. Where do you go to cancel automatic renewal of the membership?

      • +1

Does the hong kong one only work in Asia Pacific, likewise is this one limited to Australia? Or are they worldwide?

        • I'd like to see this confirmed as well.

        • The membership is the same anywhere in the world, no matter what country of origin. Thought you might want Australian one if you use it regularly and accrue points.

    • I paid $399 in Feb tried in a couple of places then cancelled it and got full refund.

  • What happened if i have made and paid the booking then sign this up ? I have signed up the normal accor

    • +2

Cancel your booking if you can and rebook.

      • +3

Exactly what I just did, saved $120 inc the cost of this member ship + I'll get all the perks now.

  • +3

For Amex platinum member, this is free. just sign up within your amex account

    • +3

All Platinum members? Isn't it just the Platinum Charge card that gets it?

      • +2

        Platinum charge

        • What is the annual fee for those cards?

          • @TomGum: $1450

            • +3

@fomal: Haha. Not exactly "free" then. Lol

              • +1

@Mr Frodo: Nothing is ever free but the benefits you receive back from $1450 is way more than that is you use it right.

We are travelling through Europe at the moment and if I have to put a ball park on the benefits we have already received is about $4000 plus upgrades at hotels and exceptional service.

              • +11

@Mr Frodo: If you travel a lot, it's one of the best value cards on the planet.

                • Complimentary Worldwide Travel Insurance extended for up to 4 Additional Platinum Card Members

                • Avis Preferred upgrade
                • 2.25 Membership Rewards points per $1 on all eligible purchases

It really is the king of the cards for travellers.

                • +1

                  @DSOTM: That's impressive

                • +1

@DSOTM: And also new sign up bonus of 325k points like last January (162.5k Krisflyer miles).

                  • @hawkeye93: Well that's worth more KF miles than a one-way business class flight to the UK at AUD$5K - $6K.

                • +1

@DSOTM: It's like those coupon books in the 1990s with "$5,000 in savings!" if you spend like $30k.

Who has the time to catch an overnight train, go on a cruise and waste time in crappy Priority Pass lounges.

Everyone I know who has this card IRL flies business class anyway on whatever airlines - and the business lounge with the plane ticket is usually really good.

                • +1

@DSOTM: Don't think you can get a reserve card anymore.

  • I'm a gold member, with quite a lot of points.
I received my early bird renewal and was umming and ahhing as I dont tend to use the membership so much any more.
Would anyone know if I would retain my status (I see above that you retain points). I guess they are worth a bit but the cost is going up all the time.

    • Status last for one year only I was told.

Dont forget Cashback via cashrewards for another $13.93 saving

    • How can you use this link from Cashrewards? Please share.

    • Edited: I use the cr chrome extention, not sure if it's gonna work out or not

      • I normally stick with the app just to be sure. That means no link possible?

        • +1

Sorry I don't have an answer for that. Likewise, I always use the app and I haven't found any way to use link like this in the app. Given that this is already a great deal, I think it is still worth it if the cashback is not granted.

          • +1

@willthefomo: I followed through cashrewards link, opened up the Accor page, then I copy and pasted the link for this deal and I got an email from cashrewards that it's tracked. Don't know if it'll fulfil my Cashback though

    • +1

Says not valid for purchase of membership

      • There's a specific cashback for Accor plus isn't there?

    • Thanks! Worked for me! OP updated!

    • Did this as stated now in the post via PC browser (Firefox):

Logged into my cashrewards account, searched for Accor, clicked into accorplus 7% cashback link, then I copy and pasted the link for this deal.
Already got an email from cashrewards that it's tracked!

  • +1

Is the dining at all 1400 websites on this page? https://www.accorplus.com/restaurants/

If so it'll end up being quite a good deal regardless of using the accommodation.

    • +4

What's with the "up to 50% off" bit, is it 50% off, or somewhere between 5% to 50% depending on the place? And if so, how do we know what the percentage discount is for each place?

      • +1

From what I understand the % varies depending on the number of people you're dining with. 50% is for 2 people, but it's less for 3-4. See the other recently posted deal for the breakdown in the comments.

        • Yep, just saw that comment now, that clarifies it. Weird way of doing it but it makes sense now at least.

        • Do you know if it is still 50% for 2 adults and 2 children (not school age)? Or still considered as 4 people?

      • Experience is 25% off for 1 adult

    • +3

I've never been turned down at any of these. Visited more than two dozen of those in AU and SEA. Always 50% off when dining with 2 adults & 2 kids.
The discount is based on adults dining.

      • Thanks!

      • How do you claim the discount? Do just show a membership card when paying?

        • +3

Yes, show your Accor Plus card and they will know what to do.
Note: just because a hotel has a restaurant in it doesn't mean it's run/managed by Accor. It has to be on that list of 1400 restaurants from their website.

      • Do you know if there's anything in writing supporting the discount being based on adults only and not kids?

Only reason i ask is ive never had an issue except for one hotel in the Gold Coast last year who were trying to only give us 25% off when i dined with my wife and 2 kids (7 & 4).

Had to insist it should be 50% but couldn't find anything in writing from Accor to support it. The hotel ended up giving 50% as a "gesture of goodwill" but would be good to have something i could show any other place in the future who try this.

        • +1

There is nothing that states it is adults only, it depends on the restaurant and their systems. Most till systems can't differentiate between and adult or a childs meal so all patrons are counted. Unless you do 2 separate transactions which is time consuming if there's a que to order

          • @Jezzabell: Thanks, i guess in future its best to double check with the restaurant if they do count kids as part of it or not before dining

    • What are the better restaurants in Melbourne/Victoria? Also any place in AU that does seafood buffets like Langham??

  • Great deal. Any ideas if and when it might expire? Not looking to use any benefits for at least a month.

Also, can you book the free night for a date after the membership expires?

    • +1

You must use the free night during the membership year period (i.e. you can't just book & stay later).

  • Assuming the free night can be used on weekend nights?

    • Yes it can*.

  • +3

In Sofitels in Australia, the dates available for the free nights are heavily restricted. At the Sofitel in Noosa the free night is only available midweek outside school holidays and only for the lowest class of room. There are also a long list of hotel restaurants that are excluded from the dining discount including the Noosa Beach House Restaurant at the Sofitel. Even with the restrictions its still a good deal at $199.

    • That's a bummer. Do you at least get breakfast included at Sofitel Noosa?

      • The free night at Sofitel Noosa is the "village view" (building next door) without breakfast. You can pay for an upgrade to a pool or river view. Breakfast on the beach at the Boardwalk Bistro is great - better than the hotel. Dont miss their "happy hour" with $2 oysters from 3:30pm.

        • Yeah understood thanks.

Last time I was there, if you were an Accor Plus member breakfast was actually free so was wondering if that was still the case. Over a number of days that actually ends up being a good saving.

          • @atlas: Free night removes any free breakfast privilege for that night

    • is there anywhere to see the exclusions list?

  • Does anyone know if the 50% off dining stacks with restaurant specials like weekday lunch menus or special events?

    • +4

Yes, it does stacks with whatever they put on the bill. Remember, this 50% off is based on 2 people eating.
1 person is 25% off the bill
      3 people is 33%
      4 people is 25%
After 4, it is only 25%. I think the max is 8 people.

Another trick is you can gift an accor plus day pass (I think you get 2 a year?) to your friend and split that bill between 2 parties of 2 people.
