  • Is there any way to check if this Apple product is Australian? i.e Would I be able to take it to an apple store if faulty?

    • +2

As long as it is a legit Apple product and you have a valid receipt it is covered by their one year worldwide warranty: https://store.apple.com/Catalog/Images/worldwidewarranty.htm…

You should also be covered by Australian Consumer Law, which extends certain warranty expectations beyond the one year mark.

      • I previously had experience with this at the Apple Store — they said that their ACL period for airpod pros is 2 years, but since mine were sourced from the US (by Kogan) they'd only honour the 1 year worldwide warranty.

      • Where did you get that link from - are you sure its for the AirPods, or another product?

        Go to https://www.apple.com/legal/warranty/ > AirPods > Asia Pacific > Australia > https://www.apple.com/legal/warranty/products/accessory-warr…

Apple may restrict warranty service for hardware products to the country where Apple or its Authorized Distributors originally sold the device. Apple may restrict warranty service for hardware products purchased in the EEA or Switzerland to the EEA and Switzerland.

      • ACL did not apply to an iPad Pro I had and had just run out of 1 year warranty. I had the original invoice and it was a manufacturing fault too, they just said if this was bought in Australia, we would have serviced or replaced.

        • Apple will do anything they can to wiggle out of ACL, including obfuscating whether you have any rights to it.

I believe, though I am not a lawyer, that ACL applies to retailers based in Australia. So the eBay seller, in being a business, should give you the right to seek ACL from them but it is an eBay seller.

If I was you I would have hightailed it to my office of fair trading. I've never had a manufacturer/retailer honour ACL without a letter from the Office of Fair Trading.

    • +2

you would think if it was 100% legit it would mention that they are an authorised Apple seller….says 1 year SELLER warranty, nothing about manufacturers warranty

    • +1

Australian model as the model number listed on eBay MQD83ZA/A matches the JB Hi-Fi model number too

    • +2

Listing says AU Seller not AU Stock. If it is AU stock they would be advertising as such.
You will find sellers promoting as AU Stock are always dearer on eBay

  • This is cheaper than the Amazon preorder special which was $319 iirc.

  • +5

This seems like a lowest of all time. Are they legit Apple? Feed back is at 96%.

  • I just bought a steam deck from these guys too. Hopefully it's all legit!

  • Anyone know if it's worth the upgrade from APP gen 1?

    • -4

      No.. I have both

      • +3

        Disagreed, I also have both.

Truly much better sound and noise cancellation. Always on find my and U1 chip to find it easier if you loose with precise location and case that can ping. (Surprisingly) great volume controls.

If you have the means and you use it often 100% worth it. Especially if you sell older products to finance the newer a bit more.

Value is a very subjective proposition…

      • +2

Also disagree, the noise cancelling is significantly better, and tracking is great if you loose them.

    • +1

I upgraded mine but mainly due to kids misplacing my AirPods a lot and it was a nightmare to find. Now, I intentionally try to misplace it at home so I can ring it using find my :)

On the other hand, I believe noise cancelling has improved a lot so I enjoy wearing them in noisy areas.

      • -2

Improved a lot? It went from silent to hearing everyone speaking around me with the last firmware update. Shame the updates are forced and can’t be rolled back

        • Use mine daily on a big zero turn mower and I haven't noticed their noise cancelling abilities being any worse than at the start. Are you sure you dont have transparency on? Maybe try toggling it on and off.

          • -2

@dtpearson: Lol of course. Yeah the NC works but not as it did before. I couldn't hear people speak around me but the latest update (might have dropped around January?) purposely lets human voice through. Wearing them at work I can hear people speak a few bays away but it does drain out other background noise. Wearing them at the gym I can hear their music instead of being in my own little world listening to mine. Maybe they did it for safety reasons, who knows, but we should at least have the option to roll back the firmware cause if I had known I'd be hearing people speak I wouldn't have bought them

            • @johnnytran: Maybe your ears or tips have changed shape? Mine are three years old and I swear the fit has changed in that time

        • -3

Not sure why I’d get downvoted for stating a fact. Guessing you’re one of those snowflakes that puts their pronoun in your email signature

          • @johnnytran: You might have a counterfeit. I got one from eBay that turned out to be counterfeit. It was pretty indistinguishable from the original other than that the NC sucked.

    • I recon no.

    • +2

Sort of? I did exactly that, and the experience is 90% the same - the case has audible alarms for Find My which is a big quality of life improvement. I'd say the noise cancelling is a bit better, but it's not going to change your life. So straight up upgrade, not worth another $350, but if you sell your Gen 1 APP for $200-250, the equation becomes a bit more in favour of upgrading (what I did).

EDIT - and swiping up/down for volume adjustment on APP2 is awesome.

      • Thanks. But where'd you sell it for $200-$250? It seems like there's a lot of fakes on the second hand market and would used earbuds actually have such second hand market value?

        • I offered mine up on Facebook to friends and family first at slightly under the current market value - sold in under an hour. I do agree that marketplace and Gumtree seem to be a cesspool of BS. I decided to take about $25 less than I could get to avoid the scammers and lowballers - YMMV

    • +2

It depends, I have both and the below additions are pretty nice in Pro 2

      • much better ANC especially in really noisy environment (like in the airplane)
      • the "Find My" finally works, great to locate your earphone if you misplace them quite often

Otherwise sound quality wise are not significantly improved IMO

  • +1

would wait for usb-c version of this pro 2.

    • Agree, rumours of it later this year but nothing solid :/

Hopefully identical airpods, just new case. So existing Airpod 2 owners can just buy a new case.

      • +1

IMHO they won't change to USBC until the iPhones do, so September at the earliest (and maybe September next year if they don't do it this year)

    • and then wait for a discount?

  • Anyone has tried?
The coupon shows as this code cannot be applied for this order or something like that.

  • What is record low price?

  • -3

These are great, but I swear the "Adaptive Transparency" feature is complete BS.

Also weirdly the "Battery is low" message you get on your phone reads something like "Please Replace the battery in …. etc" .. "Replace" .. That was alarming to hear on day 1, until I realised it just meant the battery is flat - please recharge.

    • +2

That please replace battery message doesn’t sound like a feature of the AirPods, they only make a downwards scale sorta noise and also only report battery as a percentage on other Apple devices because they’re mean and like locked-down things. Where are you getting this message lol 🧐

    • My AirPods have never told me to replace the battery.

      • Me neither, and I use them daily.

    • are you sure you got the original airpods? as they dont say please replace the batt

      • Got ‘em through Telstra. No reason to think they’re not genuine.

        • What iOS are you running? That was an early iOS 16 error that has been fixed for quite a while now.

    • These are great, but I swear the "Adaptive Transparency" feature is complete BS.

Used it at a concert with loud speakers, worked like a charm.

      • I use it when running the portal AC which is very loud and it quietens it a lot. Using full ANC silences it. I notice when riding the big diesel busses it doesn't silence the bus noise completely, but when listening to music combined with ANC it covers up the noise.

    • +1

I just want to reiterate, I really like them and would recommend them in an instant to anyone in the apple eco system.

  • I won’t buy AirPods from eBay. I was duped by a fake AirPods Pro and didn’t find out till 6 months later. It was that good a fake.

    • Depends on Sellers.

      • It's hard to trust any seller when the rep boxes and the serial number look exactly the same as a legit one. Connecting to iPhone is the same as a real pair and the only difference is a poor ANC on fakes as they haven't perfected it yet.

Only trust authorised sellers by Apple

    • yea reps also known as fakes are made so well now. They even cloned the serial numbers so its checks out legit in apple care.

If you want some legit looking reps, i recommend checking out air reps on reddit and their website/ alilibaba

  • My AirPods pro V1 are not a good fit on my right ear and constantly keep falling out even with the smallest head movement.
Are there any improvements with cushions/fitting in V2?

    • I understand that they are the same but 4 sizes of silicone instead of 3

  • Does this work? I am getting the error "This code can't be applied to your order".
Is there something I am doing wrong?

  • How can I not like the name of the shoooop!

  • Current amazon.au price is $359 and officeworks sell for $388. And officeworks will price match Amazon bring down price to $341.05
Then if you buy ultimate teen or kids gift cards with this deal https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/767926 it’s essentially 10% off ($34.1 as Woolies rewards) bring these down to $306.95. Probably the best deal for AirPods Gen2 at this stage (and definite AU stock instead of any speculation with eBay sellers)
Ps: I did purchase this way yesterday, however Woolworth reward points are still not updated, as I read, it takes a few weeks to update (if someone can please verify)
    Cheers

  • I received my pair from three.sons ebay seller today.
    Relatively fast shipping.

    But:

    • the model number on packaging does not match the ad.

    Packaging: MQD83ZM/A
    while the ad says …..ZA/A

    Apparently they’re a German model?

I searched the serial number on box and it expires in mid Feb 2024???

    All sounding a bit suspicious.
What’s the best approach from here?

    • Return if you are unhappy. Not matching description hence you can return

    • How is noise cancellation and transparency?

  • I also received MQD83ZM/A - says $249
    Any chance these are fake?

  • Most likely it’s just stock from a different country. Often a single letter in a model is designated to a country or region.

  • I returned mine

  • +1

This is not Australian stock and not as advertised.

  • MQD83AMA which checked is US model. any risk?
