Good to have windscribe for the odd times you may need to create a new Turkish subscription service (although it failed me for Spotify)

    • +1

I paid $2 to get a Philippine VPN a couple of years ago when they were the cheapest Spotify country and all went well. No longer the cheapest, but it's a fair amount of hassle these days so am keeping it for now. Had to create a Philippine PayPal with a fake address and phone number - now I can't even log into it because they require phone number verification but I'm still keeping it topped up haha

    • So it was £0.01 … interesting

As mentioned in the previous post and in the blogpost, the code is to assist those in Iran

If you are located outside of Iran, we humbly request that you don’t use the code (you probably still will, but it is worth an ask); instead, spread it to anyone you know in Iran.

    • +5

So it's unethical for others to use the freebie?

      • +46

It's sort of the digital equivalent of stealing from charity bins, so, yes…I think the Iranians suffering under the regime need it more than we do.

          • +12

@[Deactivated]: Adding more users onto the VPN adds more load on the servers and adds more cost. It's not infinitely free.

              • +2

@[Deactivated]: Firstly any contribution is better than none (what have you done?), second of all, the idea is that Iranians can maintain contact with the outside world, and inform on what's actually happening on the ground, not download 4K bluray rips of the latest movies, so 30GB is probably sufficient. It's a bit rich to scoff at what's being done when you're not doing anything yourself.

                  • +3

@[Deactivated]: I'm not using the code because I already have a VPN subscription thanks to a deal posted on this forum, genius.

It's foolish to believe that the entire country can be air-gapped long term & not totally collapse. Lack of internet access presents more of a risk to the regime than it does the people. Anyone living within cooee of one of the numerous borders Iran has can easily access mobile data from a neighbouring country. A VPN is useful in case the government of one of those places is friendly towards the Iranian regime and helps with suppressing dissidents. So before you spout off with even more nonsense about virtue signalling, think a little. Just because you're lacking the intelligence to see the value in something, doesn't mean it doesn't exist.

@Ham Dragon: You and WS are saving the world, one advertising campaign, and charity bin analogy, at a time.

                      • @[Deactivated]: It's nice to know you apparently care so little, you still bothered to get mad! Your anger means a lot, and the contribution is appreciated!

                        • -1

@Ham Dragon: I'm not sure where you got anger from anything I wrote, but then all of your ideas are based on incredibly stupid foundations, so I should not be surprised here either.

                    • -1

                      @Ham Dragon:

                      Hello CHINA…..

                      • +1

@dealman: When was the last time China shut the internet off completely, as old mate is suggesting Iran will do?

                      • -3

@dealman: China censor the internet heavily, and also block many VPNs. No one shuts down the internet entirely as much as India does.

Either way, this offer does absolutely nothing for Iranians. When the government want to stop protest co-ordination, they just shut it all down. They arrest everyone involved, and install cameras everywhere to identify women breaking dress code. They also arrest TikTok users for dancing.

My original point stands though, this does nothing for Iranians. Unlike finite resources like charity bins, upgrading every free account in existence using this offer in no way denies an Iranian from using it, and this is nothing more than a pointless advertising campaign that will be of no benefit to Iranians.

                        • @[Deactivated]: Still showing us all how much you don't care so much by whining, ad nauseam, about something you allegedly don't care about. Might I suggest you go and touch some grass.

        • +2

          And under US sanctions

    • +15

yeah probably best to leave this deal for those that need it. also worth noting (from the same link):

This code is not permanent, and the extra free data will be removed from the account in the future.

      • That's strange considering they have given out lifetime codes for 60gb, 50gb & 30gb monthly free lifetime with no strings attached.

    • +4

ABGOOSHT is a traditional Persian stew

      • Yeah bro, WTF? 😂

        • +1

We should have deducted that it is for Iranian people :)

          I am joking

I was actually curious about the meaning behind the code

    • +6

Damn didn't read this and already claimed.
Oh well, I'll never use windscribe for anything other than Turkish account subscriptions anyway…

@Scrooge McDeal : I think it would be fair to mention this in the original post so people know and it's up to them what to do

    • Thanks for the insight, I support the Islamic Republic of Iran so will now use the code because it's the moral thing to do.

      • would you still make fun if you lost your brother or sister during Iran protests to a murdering regime?

  • So only one 4k HDR Linux ISO :p

    • +1

Power move is to watch p-hub with all history on and don’t close the tab.

  • This voucher is already applied to your account

Wish it was added on top of previous dea

  • +2

    Free? You are the product?

    • +1

Yep, I tried them, unsuccessfully, for over an hour for Turkish VPN, no go, and just got spam from them. Unsubscribed, not wirth the effort IMO - I know, hand in my ozb ticket etc haha

That said, others have been and still are successful with it! YMMV, good luck!

    • +1

"If you are located outside of Iran, we humbly request that you don’t use the code (you probably still will, but it is worth an ask); instead, spread it to anyone you know in Iran."

      This is a charity offer.

Windscribe is a very good paid vpn, been using it for years. It's not owned by a dodgy company like CyberGhost and worth the price if you need a vpn.

  • Can't stack with any previous bonus

  • 30GB Emergency Plan

  • -2

Didn’t realise I actually have 60Gb to use before I tried to put the code in since I have never used it since I signed up for free quota years ago….

For those VPN savvy out there, is Windscribe genuinely safe to use? I’m always skeptical on VPN service in general from a privacy perspective and thinking it would be worse to use it than not in some scenario e.g. unrealisable or even “fake” VPNs which could exist for malicious purpose….

    • -1

If you are not comfortable then dont use it. You want free but yet privacy safe? Everything comes at a cost.

  • "This code cannot be used as it will reduce your bandwidth limit"

    • +1

      From description

Those who already claimed a larger amount of free monthly usage, this will reduce your allowance — do not claim.

  • Tip - I have 60Gb from a previous deal but I can't unsubscribe from the newsletter otherwise I lose that so this deal may be similar?

    • You can change your WS email to a spam one, or just block their emails.

      • +1

How many emails are people getting?

I get like 1 every 2-3 months or on a holiday or a special day (April fools recently), and some are good to read, they are funny.

        • More than they want, and with no way to opt out.

        • Same.

      • Yeah I know just pointing out these deals usually come with needing to be on a mailing list permanently is all :)

        • +1

Being on ozbargain and one does not have an email they use for signing for random shit?

          • @xoom: One does - never said I didn't.

            • +1

@Ramrunner: General statement. Not directed at you specifically.

  • +1

Abgoosht as promo code haha :)) I am the Persian comment you are looking for!

  • Thanks, upgrade my 20G to 30G.

  • No Australia on the list unless you pay for pro?

    • Exactly? Unless you live in Iran, I can’t see any benefit.

      • +4

        Some usages include:
        - Going to Turkey to get cheap pricing for things like Google One or Apple iCloud+.
        - Going to US/UK/Other countries to view geo-restricted services/videos like YouTube or Netflix etc.

  • You can just insert the code during the signup, and 30GB will be activated once you verify your email

  • Very nice! Thank you!

  • +3

Can the OP mention in the post it really should only be meant for those in Iran?. I would not have known unless i read the comments to stay clear of it for our brothers in Iran….(no i didnt use the code)

  • Isn't Iran one of the countries we were told to hate in the 90's.

    • +3

The country's government. Not its common people.

      • +2

        No, Tracey Grimshaw said everyone.

  • 30GB for a month? Or ongoing (forever)?

    • -3

      2.

"cramps from your monthlies so bad you could weep"

  • I still have my 50GB account from years ago, haven't used this that much as got a login from my bro for CyberGhost, but this can still be handy for geo unblocking and whatever.

    • CyberGhost

If you really care about your privacy, I would strongly suggest looking into the shady history of this company and deciding whether you personally trust them or not.

  • "You must confirm your email to confirm this voucher" error, even though my email has been confirmed a while back

    • All good, just need to delete the email from the account and re verify

  • I only got 10 gb and 7 major countries access 😭

    • Did you confirm the email?.

10 gb is the default free account.

  • I was in Bali last year, and tried to connect to an Australian location using windscribe but it does not work. There were 7-8 locations listed but had a star next to it, (can connect only if you pay for premium), not sure if thats changed now!

  • Just be aware I had a really hard time using Windscribe, even after buying the pro version over in China, the great firewall made it hard.

    • +1

The Windscribe China server IP address must be banned by the great China firewall.

      • Some works like Dallas Ranch or Taiwan but it was like on and off not worth paying for but I hope they improve it tho.

  • Doesn't seem to work. Maybe it's expired (it's been a month)
