Coles Rainchecks Resumed

Moved to Forum: Original Link

Call it OzReminder and/or move it to the forums… Either way I didn't know until recently (and I wish I had known sooner) that Coles has now resumed rainchecks while it's duopoly twin has not.

What is a raincheck?

Coles policy towards rainchecks:

Our raincheck policy allows us to issue a guarantee to customers that they can purchase an item on sale at a later date at the same reduced price. It's important to note that retail limits apply, which vary depending on the product.

However, please be aware that there are exclusions to our raincheck policy. These include non-advertised products, clearance products, products advertised with a disclaimer (i.e. No Rainchecks), tobacco and smoking related products, gift cards, mobile phones, accessories, and pre-paid services. Additionally, rainchecks must be redeemed in full when returning to the store.

Furthermore, specified limits must be strictly applied to all customers, and the specified limits in our catalog or reasonable retail quantity limits are subject to our raincheck policy. It's important to note that this policy does not apply to pre-arranged customer orders for bulk quantities.

Please be aware that restrictions apply to bulk orders if the product is part of a promotion or multi-buy, with the only exception being a customer ordering the same quantity regularly, such as for remote deliveries or offshore orders.

I wonder when they resume the 'free hot chicken' if we don't have chickens in the heater ready to buy…

Though rain checks are a welcome return for us all…

My local coles still has that sticker on the feont of the counter…

I tested it a few weeks ago and got a free chicken the following day.

    • 'free hot chicken' if we don't have chickens in the heater ready to buy

How did that work? Did you need to wait while they heated one up for you?

      • If the hot chickens run out you get a voucher for a free chicken to use whenever.

So you get your partner/friend to load their trolley up with all the chickens, 'oh my there seems to be no chickens in the heater can I have a voucher plx'. Partner in crime puts all the chickens back after a walk around the potato station. Profit $11

/s but I now wonder if anyone has actually done it 😂

        • It sounds like an excellent idea to me :)

    • A couple of weeks ago, I saw an old lady and a young guy waiting for chicken in coles. After getting all the stuff needed in my trolley I decided to join the queue. Just minutes later, the store manager came and asked me if I was waiting for a chicken, and I said yes. Then I knew I got a free one.

There is still a sticker about free chicken policy, but there are always a few chickens there too.

I wasn't aware that Coles had ever stopped doing rainchecks. If they did stop doing them, it could only have been for a brief period.

It started during Covid. It's been about 2 years.

This article from March 2021 reports on what is amusingly described as the "little-known trick" available at Coles supermarkets. I don't use them very often, but I recall getting a raincheck in the first half of last year. You're probably right about them being suspended for a time, but I think they've been back for a while.

    • They stopped doing it in 2020, they resumed rainchecks towards the end of 2020/early 2021 when supply chains started returning to some stability.

  • Does Woolies do these anymore or also canned?

Woolies hid behind covid to permanently can rainchecks, they have no plans on bringing it back.

Not to mention change of mind refunds..

My local store never stopped doing them, perhaps they didn't get the memo.

The article stated from a Woolworths rep that they couldn't guarantee supply, which is why no rainchecks. But to me, if that's the case, why do Woolworths think they can promo it at all?

And plus, nobody ever thought that a raincheck gave any sort of guarantee of supply.

This is a win for Coles, keep us customers happy as possible while they continue to syphon more and more $ from us.

That's the thing, the rainchecks were what kept Woolies in compliance with advertising laws. In lieu of having adequate stock during the sale period they would issue rainchecks so you could still partake in the promoted pricing in the event they didn't have enough stock to provide adequate supply as required by law. In theory they're now in breech of advertising laws every time something runs out of stock after 1 or 2 days of the catalogue starting.

And will there be any consequences for breaching the law?

  • Huh. Had no idea rain checks were even a thing.

    • Rain is forecast over the Easter weekend.

  • Damm yay, BTW how do we get item later for collection ??

I am thinking paying for icecreams in bulk first then collect later when freezer is empty.

BTW does it then mean everyone can get PRIME drink also ??

    • They'll give you a handwritten coupon thing with the item and price written down (possibly a date to redeem by), next time you head in and it's in stock at full price, you give them the coupon and they'll reduce it.

I think you had to state how many qtys you want at the time too.

    • You can only get a raincheck if they are OOS on the item and they do check. The voucher is valid for 1 month at any Coles store for a certain number of items, I think 6.

Went to Coles the other day to get two I&J Raw Prawns Tail Off 500g packs, selling at $12.00 per pack.

    https://www.coles.com.au/product/iandj-raw-prawns-tail-off-5…

Local store was out of stock and decided to get a raincheck at service desk. Service desk san rainchecked me for 6 without question. 10/10 will always raincheck again.

    • Yep we do rainchecks fairly often. They're great!
