Gaming Headset for under $150

Hey friends, I'm looking for a gaming headset for under $150. I'm a casual gamer so I don't have any specific requirements and I'm using a half broken logitech office headset so it can only go up from here. I'd like to get something nice but not completely break the bank.

I'm so overwhelmed by the amount of choice but have noted the Logitech G Pro X and Razer Blackshark V2 Pro are meant to be very good and I've noted that the Steelseries Arctis 1 is meant to be good too.

Should I stick to these (I'm happy to wait for a sale) or should I focus on something else?

Nice to have but not limited to:
* wireless
* not too bulky
* sounds good? clear?
* decent mic as long as they can hear me

    I have the Razer Nari Essential and Steelseries Arctis 1. Mostly I use the Razer, which I'm happy with, while the kids use the Steelseries.

    I like the Razer because RGB, lol, and it's more heavy duty, but I think next time I'll get Steelseries. Steelseries Arctis 1 also has a removable mike which is nice for when you don't need it.

    • The removable mic is appealing. Thanks!

    you're welcome….

    • Out of curiosity how are you so active on Ozb JV?

      Also, this looks like it'd fall apart after a week of usage.

      This is 1 point for though…

        Read the reviews

        • Ah yes, the very real reviews from kogan

    I'm very happy with steelseries arctis 3. It's not wireless. Bulky around the ears, but very comfortable. It's clear sound for gaming and mic hasn't had any complaints. Had it a while now, and no signs of wear and tear.

    • Will add this to my subscriptions

      I've been using the Arctis 7 for 4.5 years, had to replace the ear cups once, about a year ago. Battery is still good.
      Been loving them since day 1. It will be a sad day when they die. It might be a bit outside of OP's budget but can recommend SteelSeries Arctis based on my experience

  • I've had a set of HyperX Cloud 2's for 3 years now, still going strong.

    Handy things about them:
    - 3.5mm to USB DAC
    - 3.5mm connector is 4 pole so you can use the headset and mic with your phone (I actually use this way more than I expected!)
    - DAC cable is pretty long
    - Volume for both headset and mic, mic mute switch, and 7.1 "surround" toggle.
    - Removable mic

    Headphone audio quality is solid. Mic quality is alright, the arm is very flexible and comes with a sizeable windsock.

    +1 for steelseries range

    • I think Amazon and JB currently have sales.

      • Do they? SteelSeries arctis 1 going for $120 looks like normal or standard price according to camelx3

  • I'm currently using a "Audeeo Encounter" with the LED lights I got from eBay and it has been surprisingly good for its bargain basement price of $15. 8 months in and still going strong

    I was disappointed with the mic on the razor blackshark V2 especially after reading rave reviews, even tweaking it within synapse did not improve to a satisfactory level.

    Mwave selling the Razer BlackShark v2 Special edition (wired + USB) for $64 + delivery.

    Price seems great but still contemplating if I want to get it for my kids. It's replacing their kraken x.

    Only thing holding me back is the non-detatchable cable. I've had issues with cables in the past. For myself I only get detachable cables now. I've always preferred wired over wireless because generally wired should be more superior and for my use and my kids uses, PC gaming at a desk.

    The other alternative I'm looking at for my kids is the Philips SHP9500 or SHP9600 with a V-moda boom pro mic (non-x). These are I think a bit heavier and the price would be roughly $120+60 for the setup. Too painful on the wallet and kids being kids will go through some abuse.

    I myself use for gaming Philips Fidelio X2HR with a V-moda boom pro mic. For movies and lounging around, nothing too fancy, just an Anker Soundcore Q45.

    The Philips are open back cans so sound leaks and you'll hear everything around you.

    I'll likely cave and get the BlackShark while on sale from mwave but I did also consider:

    Corsair HS80
    Corsair HS65
    SteelSeries Arctic Nova 1
    HyperX Cloud II
    Epos H6pro (has open or closed back models)
    Beyerdynamic mmx100

    • I saw the blacksharks too. I am starting to like the idea of open back headphones purely so I can hear things other than the game. Not precious enough about the gaming to ignore the missus.

      I didn't know things like the Moda boom pro mic existed!! Can I attach this to any headphone with a headphone jack? Is the quality decent?

        Yup, it's just a standard 3.5mm.

        As for quality.. I would say it's fairly recommended by many, build feels good though I would of liked the boom wire itself be a little more stiffer. It has inline mic mute and vol control.

        Mic quality, it's clear and of decent quality though I'm no audiophile. Check out reviews on youtube it's popular.

        • Amazing! You may have saved me $150. I have other headphones like Bose QC or the Sony one so I'll check if they have a headphone jack and check this out

  • I wouldnt get Razer again purely for the hate of Synapse. Although i get a bargain of $20 2nd hand
