Couldn't find our pizza stone at home, but could find one on Amazon. It seems to be one of the cheapest in recent times (especially if you have Prime). Comes with just the stone and rack. A similar set can be found at Bunnings (with a cutter) for $19.95.

I plan to test one out in our Char Griller Akorn as well as for normal oven use.

I saw this too. About $8 for shipping.

I think Snowys is a NSW store.

Nah, one in SA & one in QLD, very good store for camping and other supplies.

Are these actually useful in a home oven? Do they get hot enough to be effective?

    • +3

They get as hot as your oven can go, but take a long time to heat up. Best used with a thermometer gun so you can get the surface temperature.

We got a pizza stone (not this one) and it has made a world of difference. I think we get gouged due to the weight of them so while they consider ours to be a budget stone in the States, it's really expensive for us here. All the ones I looked at are super expensive but your best bet is probably going to be Amazon.

    • +1

absolutely. if you are making your own base, the stone gets hot enough to cook the base so you don't end up with an undercooked base + burnt cheese (vs if you were cooking on a sheet pan)

    • I believe they do, especially for home made/store bought dough (which I am using).

I have this, works great, but make sure you heat it up before using it, for best results.

    • It's the only way to do it really, pizza stones can be damaged if you put a cold one straight into an already hot oven.

    • How long does one typically take to heat up in a household electric oven?

      • +1

We put ours (not this particular stone) in the oven and then turn the oven onto max, 250c. We were setting the timer for 30 mins, but we are super slow/disorganised when it comes to making pizza so we probably aren't putting our pizzas onto it until at least 45 mins have past.

    Microwaveable?

    • +2

yep.. cooking a pizza in the microwave is the only way to to do IMO

  • +3

Is cast iron a good alternative?

    • +2

      Yep!

    • +2

Yep good option, just need to make sure it is pre-heated properly.

Wasted a lot of money on ceramic pizza stones, pre-heated but still got cracking when adding the cold pizza to the stone in my wood fired oven (have to use stones as oven has metal racks), switched to pizza stones made from cordierite and will never go back. Cordierite takes a bit longer to heat up but worth the extra money. Bases come out perfect.

    • We got the Solido Pizza stone. Which one do you have?

  • +1

Looking for a deal of pizza steel.

    • Yes I also read that a baking steel is better at heat distribution than a stone. But the steel needs to be thick.

  • Price matching Catch?

  • so do you put the pizza on the stone and then put it in the oven?

What if you have a wood fired pizza oven?

    • +1

In the home oven; you would heat up the stone whilst you pre-heat the oven, then slide the pizza on to the stone once it reaches temp

If you have a wood fired pizza oven, I assume you would slide it directly onto the surface of the pizza oven? not 100% sure.

  • I wish these would fit the Masterpro - still searching for a replacement after the original cracked

  • Thanks OP, just grabbed a Char Griller Akorn Jr for nothing from FB so hopefully this pizza stone will fit.

    • fingers crossed! The Jr's are a handy little thing! Hopefully yours comes with the heat deflector which helps!

      • it didnt, hence why i bought this in its place. not planning on using it mainly for pizzas, more so low & slow meat cooks.

Not sure I see the point of these pizza stones if you are having to preheat the oven for 30mins or more. That's alot of wasted electricity. Just grab one of these, for $99 delivered, they aren't perfect, but the end result is MUCH better than a standard oven plus stone. And more energy efficient. The more pizza you eat, the more you're saving the environment!

    • How long does it take to preheat to 330'c?

      • I'm interested in one of these. I'd assume pre heat time would be a lot less as there's less air volume inside compared to a standard oven?

        • Also interested. Subscribing to CCC for the next price drop

        • @ozhan @Slave1 it's a 10 minute preheat time.

          • @Charmoffensive: So much for

Cooks Homemade or Frozen Pizza in just 5 Minutes.

            • @muncan: Choice of words - I guess that's 5 mins once preheated

              • @Slave1: Nek minut - u want me to add more time for my home prep.

  • Anyone used this in a kamado joe or BGE?
