You would make your money back in a week if you simply wheeled this around to where the men in their early 40s hangout, like craft breweries.

      Or late 40s

So I guess, should get a second one for the record stores then.

You'd probably need to write off a few machines. Things can get rough.

      • Or be prepared to replace parts at the very least.

    • Possibly brothels also.

      • +1

It wont work, the customer busy shooting other type of balls.

I loved NBA Jam. Playing in Timezone with the two hour deal unlimited games on weekends.
    Such great memories

    • +14

I once took on 2 people by myself (stupidly hit both credit buttons multiple times) for all 4 quarters. Despite having to jump from side to side to control both players, I won the game with a 3 pointer on the buzzer. One of my all time gaming moments.

      • +10

Haha I bet you were waiting to tell that story :D

He can finally die now knowing he has past on the story of this epic moment of overcoming adversity to claim victory in the digital realm!

          • +6

@goldiep: I generally give a personal anecdote along with comments about said products that get highlighted on ozb. I know it might bore people depending on the topic at hand, but I like relaying stories. That said that was a pretty good day as a teenager!!

I have a (sadder) follow up story though. I had both the original and Tournament Edition games on the Mega Drive. Tournament Edition was radical, had a 300+ game streak going that several friends would try to ruin while "teaming" with me when we used to play 2 v 2 against the AI. The sad part was I let another 'friend' borrow the game and he returned it with the stats/records reset :(. I was devastated, but serves me right for lending it in the first place.

Hate to think how much time I spent on it, but even today I kind of cringe when I see the time played on several games across my home consoles or pc on Steam (eg: Rocket League I've spent 71 days in total hours of playing the game over the last almost 8 years).

      • must have been tough to peak in life so early :)

        • I'm yet to do a George Costanza and find a machine with my high score still the #1 score :P

      • Cool Story, Hansel!

The street fighter combo fighting games version is cool with lots of games

Pretty sure I'd get sick of NBA jam.

  • +3

    4 ppl on a 17" screen?

    turbo pass

    • +4

Used to play Quake 3 Arena back in the day with 4 people on 14" commodore 128 screen.

      I'm sure 17" will do.

      • +1

The problem isn't the screen size, it's that you have to stand a fixed distance from it. I've seen this machine in person quite a few times and it's not the same size as a traditional arcade cabinet (which is a tight fit for 4 adults), it's tiny. 4 children could play it, but 4 adults realistically can't.

        • +4

Just to expand on this a bit, a standard 4 player arcade cabinet has a control panel width of 93cm, while this cabinet has a control panel width of 78cm. Normally the arcade screen is 25" and set back far enough from the control panel that the people on the sides can still reasonably see it without the viewing angle being too high, but the tiny screen on the mini cabinet is close to the players, which makes the viewing angle extreme.

I was blown away by NBA Jam when it first came out and we were paying $16 for a 4 player game at Timezone, but this cabinet does not give people that experience at all.

@GhostofB: yes, exactly this….these cabs look cool in photos but are way to small for anyone but kids….and kids dont have the nostalgia draw of any of these…they just wanna play bonestorm these days…

these cabs are pretty much large, expensive ornaments that take up a lot of space - if you have that space free, id recommend an ikea style pre fab or even a DIY cab + your choice of sticks/buttons etc and use an old PC for MAME and/or xbox/PS to run as the brains - cost are in same league if you are a bit thrifty and know which end of a allen key/drill/jigsaw to hold…

      • 4 ppl used to sit around small black & white TV sets with a choice of 3 channels via broadcast TV back in the day too…

  • -4

    Good price, boring game

  • now this is retro coolness to the max

  • +1

great find…. If this is ninja turtle(4 players) or Metal Slug, I will be not hesitate to buy it.

    • +1

They do have a couple more machines, Simpsons and X-Men. Maybe they will go to clearance one day…

    • Metal Slug. You hit me in the nostalgia with that.

      • +1

omg yes that ninja turtles was amazing, the one where u throw the foot soldiers into the screen?

    • +1

Simple, don't move across the country

      • Can't reply to OP but I had a quick look at the video they posted and it looked really cool.

  • +1

    big head mode!

  • Looks like OOS NSW too

  • +2

Bought this for $899 from Costco about a year ago and was happy with the price and definitely happy with the quality of the cabinet. Also note if you don't read the description comes with Tournament Edition and NBA Hang Time.

  • +3

When I play all you hear is FROM DOWNTOWN and WILD SHOT repeatedly

  • It was lagging so much to try and purchase. We have been waiting for this one to come on special for a relative of mine so thank you.

  • Can you mod these?

    • Someone posted this video earlier.

      • +1

Would be great to play Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Mortal Kombat, Street Fighter II

        • Prob can’t play the fighters, only three buttons

          • @Waderiffic: He modded the machine to have more buttons for players 1 and 2.

      • I haven't got an arcade1up but I do have one of those DELL 2007FPb screens he mentions he upgraded it with, they are a nice 20 inch 1600x1200 screen and it even has SVHS and RCA video input for running older consoles as well as DVI and VGA (no HDMI but can always get a HDMI to DVI cable). I have heard that they are a bit sought after for upgrading the arcade1up. Probably worth getting hold of one if anyone is considering modding.

    Free using roms and emulators

  • How come you couldn’t chose Michael Jordan as a player for the Chicago Bulls? Ever wondered 🤔

    • +1

i think mj had basically trademarked himself or something like that and they couldn't afford the licensing fees back then

    • +1

They didn’t have the rights to use his likeness

    • No MJ in this one, but they did manage to secure the rights to Charles Barkley!!!

  • Love it. He's on fire. NBA JAM on the Xbox 360 which was probably the last iteration of this is something i used to play a lotand used to play NBA Hangtime on the n64, which I reckon was pretty much the same thing.

  • Did anyone else used to do the combo where you held down on all the joysticks and pressed the right combo of buttons and you could access a crappy 3d tank game?

  • Better off getting a real arcade cabinet than one of those 1up things IMO.
