      Waiting on Sydney now

      • +3

Sydney will never allow it lol. They don't have enough bike lanes to do it.

      • You'll be waiting until the Greens get in lol. Sydney has only recently realised it maybe shouldn't have torn up all the light rail so quickly 😂 think about where that puts it on Melbourne's timeline.

        • I hate light rail. Gets in the way of my F150.
          Buses are superior.

      • +1

At least Queensland is forward thinking when comes to PEV's. There's plenty of bicycles on the road. So what's the difference if they abide by the rules and not harming anyone?

    • +1

Do you have a source for that? still just limited to limes and neuron from what I can see

      • +2

it was on 7news as a "breaking news" at 6pm today

        • Awesome news. A step in the right direction 😁

      • +7

https://www.theage.com.au/national/victoria/personal-e-scoot… April 5th it will change.

20km/h speed limit, limited to scooters than can do 25km/h (huh?)

        • -3

          Not much detail though.

Will it be for only riding in the Melbourne, Yarra and Port Phillip council areas?

As they are unregistered still, will the riders/third parties be insured?

          • @jv:

Roads Minister Melissa Horne will on Thursday announce

            Wait a day.

        FTFY

A privately owned e-scooter does not meet the standards of registration if it:
has an electric motor with a power output of greater than 200 watts, or
has a speed capability of greater than 10 km/h.

          • @knackers:

            does not meet the standards

Which makes the 'or' and 'and' when you phrase it like you did here…

It fails the standard if either are true.

    • Wait since when.

      • since in about a week's time and i think only in the city & richmond

    • Finally E scooters are now leagal in victoria

Isn't only in the same areas as the trials?

      • As per above article "Victoria will lift a ban on personal electric scooters as part of an extension of the divisive trial in which thousands of hire scooters have taken to inner-Melbourne streets."

        • Yes, the hire scooter are only for Melbourne, Richmond, St.Kilda etc, but what about private ones?

Also, the hired ones are insured. Are the private ones?

        • Hire scooters are fun to use after a night out.
What I really hate though is trying to do the pedestrian thing on the way to work in the morning and having to walk around them strewn all over the footpath. If it’s crowded you don’t even see one until the last moment.
If anyone parked a privately owned scooter or bike like that they would be fined. These hire companies give councils a kickback so it’s all sweet.

    • +1

I still can't believe you can be charge drink driving on one of these.

    Anakin Skywalker's Podracer eScooter?

    • nah this is Rey Skywalker

Not sure if it everywhere but at the Aldi's near us (around Hornsby NSW) this always end up in the clearence section for 50% off. Last time they had like 30 of then for $200-300. Still not legal on streets in many states so a funny thing for Aldi to sell.

    • Still not legal on streets in many states so a funny thing for Aldi to sell.

People buy them to ride in their backyard.

      • +2

Hmmmm what percentage of people would want to and have a big enough back yard thats concrete (these don't do well in grass)? I suspect a very small percentage

  • Is it safe?

    • +3

Depends on your skills my friend

    • +2

Solid tyres so you're more likely to slip in the wet and it'll be a lot more bumpy. Otherwise it's up to how well you can ride.

  • +4

I had this, it broke, Skywalker support were terrible, returned to Aldi in two pieces for a full refund. Save up for a ninebot

    • +17

The force was not with you

    • +7

The after sales service for young-lings is the worst though.

    • +4

Shows what happens when you don't scoot on the high ground.

    • +2

Was it the main pin on the pivot point? Heard a few of these breaking.

Makes me a bit nervous about mine from last time.

      • Spot on!

        • Bugger. I'll keep an eye out for the recall…

    • How did it break? Did it split in half while you tried to do a jump?

      • +1

Nah, just a commuter, noticed the handlebars were loose at some point and when I checked it out closer the bolt holding them on was snapped

  • +1

This looks extremely similar to the Xiaomi Mi Electric Scooter Pro 2 or Xiaomi M365 Pro, right down to the nitty gritty details like the display. But the specs don't quite match, so perhaps there is a model we don't normally see here that they've rebadged. And the airless tyres might actually be an upgrade - the M365 pneumatic tyres are a royal pain in the arse.

If it is indeed a clone of one of the above models, this is an extremely compelling price for a high quality product.

    • +1

The latch doesn't look like Xiaomi's. A copy doesn't mean it's the same quality.

I've got a Pro 2 I use to get to work 3 days a week. I've had it for a year and a half, and have had zero issues with the tires. I put slime in them when I got it because I read similar comments.

      • +1

Well spotted - the folding stem latch is quite different. But nearly all of the other details are near identical, right down to the stippling on the handgrips.

I also have a Pro 2, ride it to work 3 days a well, and I'm super happy with it. My previous M365 blew a tyre and it was an absolute mongrel to replace. I ended up paying a bike shop to do the job after wrecking one inner tube.

    • +1

It's a M365 clone for sure and existed for many years. This one specifically is made by KCQ. I certainly wouldn't say it's any better or even high quality. Build quality on these are sub-par in the sense that the body is weak. These clones tend to have the handlebars and stem develop cracks and snap off.

The solid tyres aren't much of an improvement either. They're good in that if you get a puncture you can continue onwards, but they'll slip in the wet, wear our quicker and the ride will be a lot more bumpy. For the M365 variants it's always been about setting the correct tyre pressure and using some form of sealant like green slime or Armor Dilloz. Many scooters now have self healing tyres where there's a sticky layer on the inside of the tyre that'll seal up in a puncture.

Not really the sort of device I would cheap out on

  • -2

What’s the point if you live in Sydney. They are even thinking of changing rules for electric bikes.

  • +2

I purchased a Segway ninebot from Aldi and have been riding it to work for months has been good value for $300. It would be good if it had a bit more power as it is a bit slow taking off/going up hills.

    • It would be good if it had a bit more power

      Upgrade to the tenbot

  • +1

I bought one of these last year. It's pretty much a Xiaomi copy. I've put solid tyres and shocks on the front. Still solid for me. I'm 115kg roughly and it still does 25kmh on the flat ground. I'd say my weight is why I popped a few tyres. Solids were a pain to put on, two person job. Hills, no chance getting me up. Pretty happy overall personally and I'd buy it again. Don't know about the quoted 35km range. Speed reduces with battery life as well so I charge it every night to ensure it's full the next day commute.

  • +1

    Luke, I am your scooter

  • +1

Maximum speed of 25km/h and maximum power at 350W

Looks like he can finally get to the high ground

  • +1

Bought one for my wife at Xmas 21. Still going strong, like all Xiaomi scooters you need to pay attention to handle bar stem, make sure the bolts are tight and not bent.

Has done at least 500kms and still on same tyres.

She rides it to work 2-3 times per week, 6km each way.

Decent value for money for basic scooter.

    • It's nice.

      Let's says
500km/6km, so 83 times, $4.6/time for public transport, it saves you $383, apart from electricity cost😆

      • +2

Charge it at work and its free! hahah

Plus you don't have to deal with people on the bus, but do have to deal with crazy cyclists on the bike tracks!

  • So this Skywalker scooter will be legal to ride in Victoria, any other brands i should consider !

  • Anyone who got it, the app you need is kcq scooter not skywalker like the manual says

    • Got it this morning, it is the Skywalker app cause it connected fine for me though it's practically useless as an app beyond checking your total mileage and "E-locking" which I also think is useless. There was a screw missing holding the charging port down and the other screw was rounded out hard. Luckily could salvage a screw from a useless piece of electronics I had laying around.

I've listed a bunch of negatives but first ride impressions have been pretty positive. The only thing is it seems to have no low down torque to get you going up a hill at speed. On flat or mild slopes it handles well and quickly gets up to 25km/hr. Considering the price, range and power output I think it's a reasonably good deal but set your QC expectations low compared to other more established E-Scooter brands.

      • Are you ios? That's the ios app but that's no skywalker Android app.

        • Yeah ios, well it's definitely made by kcq so it may still work on Android? But you're really not missing out on much, the scooter still works without the app.

  • Someone knows how to unlock the speed?

  • I just bought one and tried to assemble it by tightening the 4 screws on the steering wheel.
But the steering wheel is wobbling no matter how tight there screws are.
    Anyone has the same experience?

Looks like I am going to return it

    • It could be the hinge at the bottom, the locking clasp has a bolt that can be adjusted to increase the clamping force on the joint.
Mine came loose after a couple of rides and after tightening it it's back to where it should be again.

  • My Xiaomi Pro 2 got stolen a few weeks ago, and I bought this one today. Came home and put it together, quality is not as good as Xiaomi Pro 2, feels cheap and plastic-ish. Had a test drive, feels very lightweight on the scooter, not as confident/safe/secure as Xiaomi Pro 2. Wish me good luck.

    • +1

Me and my partner have each put about 50kms on ours. No complaints so far. Obviously feels cheap, but expected at the price.
