Alba Mech. Sports Watch (Seiko Y676 Movement) $127.20 Del (OOS), Dress Blue Dial Sapphire Quartz $87.20 + Del @ David Jones

90

Featuring a Japanese Y676 automatic movement, this stunning black dial with black and blue bezel, sports watch by Alba is perfect for any occasion. From a brand that is synonymous for quality and value, Alba has produced another long-lasting time piece watch that is just as well suited in the boardroom as it is out in the field. From the Active collection that's designed to be tough and practical, this watch features 100m water resistance, curved mineral crystal, exhibition see through case-back, stainless steel case and bracelet, and day/date display. The Alba brand was born in Japan in 1979 and is from the Seiko Watch Corporation.

I know very little of this brand except that it's owned by Seiko. This one is 42mm, has a decent movement, curved mineral crystal, exhibition caseback, and jubilee bracelet so it's got a batgirl vibe. Sort of.

This dress watch is quartz with sapphire for under $100. Can't find the specs, but if it's like similar quartz sapphire models, it's probably 41mm.

There's also these two uglier ones for under $100:

  • Alba is Seikos budget budget brand. I suspect this watch is will be very cheaply built and features a 7S26 movement re-named as Y676 Movement, a old movement Seiko no longer uses in new models and hasn't for a while. At this price range you're better off going Quartz or if keen on Auto spend slightly more and get something off Aliexpress like the Steeldive SD1970. At least you get the better more modern Seiko movement and Sapphire crystal.

    • The 7S26 isn't absolute trash, it's still pretty decent, even today. Like I said, I know very little about this brand. It seemed like a deal, so i posted it. There's even a Quartz one with sapphire

      • I have two watches with 7S26's, don't get me wrong I don't mind them. They're robust and reliable. But it can be annoying to have to shake them alive. And considering the Seiko 4R35/NH35 etc is more or less a 7S26 with hacking and hand winding you might as well go for that if you're looking at cheap automatic watches.

I hereby nickname this model - "Into The Blue".

I'd recommend the Steeldive SD1970 over this, even at normal price.

I think most (all?) Albas have folded links. FYI

  • Cheap, but is it cheerful? That is the question I guess.

By the way @rosebank I have been looking at a few Baby-G models so I thought I would share them with you.

Design wise, my favourite are these G-Lide "round squares" or BLX-570's in pastel type colours.

They also have these similar colour (they seem to look more pastel in person) BGD-570 ones but I prefer the G-Lide ones linked above with the tide graph, not sure why I just think the aesthetic with perceived larger display is much nicer overall.

Here is another similar aesthetic but square tide model (G-Lide). https://www.g-central.com/baby-g-g-lide-blx-565-a-smaller-en…
Particularly wanted to point out these two models with pastel like colours.

In an opposite way to the round non G-Lide I linked in the last paragraph, these ones seem to "pop" a bit more in colour than their product images suggest. At least they appear to be more colorful judging by this unboxing video. https://youtu.be/eRCwn0UUu1M

I know you are a collector, so thought you might be interested in some of these models if you hadn't heard of them before. Some might be discontinued etc so harder to find, but that's part of the hunt right.

    • Thanks! I hate to admit I'm a collector, but I am with watches, unlike whisky which I buy to drink so it's more like "my supply of alcohol to keep me functioning"

The BLX-565 line looks dope, but the issue with Baby-Gs—as much as I like the colours and designs—is the strap length. They just fit so I think I'm done with them.

I'm catching up with the Scarce dude next week. I'll go through his stash and see if he want's to unload anything for cheap (most likely yes because keeps telling me horror stories about buyers getting refunds from ebay and amazon for the shittiest of reasons despite proof of everything, and how much competition there is. I think G-Shocks are giving him deperession)

Yeah I remember you commented that warning, but I thought the strap length was ok for you. Didn't realize it were an issue for you personally.

(most likely yes because keeps telling me horror stories about buyers getting refunds from ebay and amazon for the shittiest of reasons despite proof of everything,

Damn that sucks. I can definitely say it's unfortunately common especially on marketplaces. Aliexpress is one other place where I know people are either extremely ignorant or plain horrible to buyers. I was in the mech keyboard hobby for a short while, and there were a lot of regular posts where a user would call "SCAM" within a short period of purchasing and be stupid enough to post what exactly happened which just made me shake my head.
The only reasons I can think of is they have done zero research and expect Amazon next day service, from marketplace sellers china.

Basically every time they would be the one who made the mistake/are extremely impatient and most times they would simply "cancel their order" or do a "paypal chargeback" simply because the seller didn't post the item fast enough or didn't reply to their messages.
Most times the item would already likely be in transit, but the seller just hadn't got around to updating the tracking info. And in some cases by the time the seller sees the cancellation the item is too far to turn around and so the buyer would get their money back, and have the item arrive a few weeks later on their doorstep.
But as soon as they do their chargeback they would write up a post about how "seller XXXXX" is a scammer and buying from Aliexpress "marketplace" is a scam etc.

Receiving the item first, then claiming money back is another level though. That sucks to be ripped off by customers who are in Australia.
