Not going to lie, I've been eyeing the Tuna's for like $150 last night, I think they were due to drop around $130 aswell. They have a tiffany blue tuna that looks pretty sick. Or even a 2-tone lume bezel Tuna for like $20 more..

    I'm soo poor though.. 😭

    • +1

Don't forget cashrewards. I just bought another one & it was $4.06 cashback.

    • Are you referring to this one?
      https://m.aliexpress.com/item/1005002593375374.html

Which one is the 2 tone one?

      • Gawdangit, having issues linking it.

It's called like Tuna Classic I think. It's about $190 I think? Fairly sure Jack was over at their place ealier because last night I could have sworn it was around $170..

        • What the item number of the 2 tone lume bezel?

To share link remove Anything after item number followed by .html

      • goddamit you got me… that is so nice

  • +1

Shipping is super fast. At least from the last deal

  • You can barely find stainless steel bracelets for this much. Crazy.

  • +1

I need a semi-formal watch, I see WatchNerd, Seiko, cheap… I will sleep on it & buy tomorrow

    • +1

A dive watch is not a semi-formal watch. Especially at this size even with a large wrist.

      Get something bezel-less at least.

    • +2

In before the @WatchNerd SKMEI recommendation.

      • +2

If you want one the Skmei 1628 is US$8.79 + GST.

        • -1

          Yeah, how about NO.

I also bet, you'd think it'd look good on me..

        • +1

i actually bought this and it just came today, for the price of lunch, I have no complaints

          • @bakemon0: Where can you buy lunch for under 10 bucks???

            • @batfastard: It's US$8.79 + GST which comes to approx AU$14.40 del.

              • @WatchNerd: On a side note, you can pair the current deal and spend a few $ more to get the next $6.06 discount bracket for the Skmei.. 😅

Getting this Steeldive WITH the Skmei, taking your total from $107 to around $115.

                I might end up getting the green one. I mean, I guess it's okay for like a $7 - $8 beater.. 😅

            • @batfastard: Asian food court. Cheapest place, Honey chicken on rice.

Haven't been in years but pretty sure it was under $10 by a few dollars. Should be under $10 even after shrinkflation.

        • one day i will get around to making an ali express order and definitely the skmei 1628 in blue camo is 100% IN.

        • I hate ALL of you..

  • Specs look very good. I am unaware of how good or bad are Steeldive. Can someone please educate me? I have limited knowledge on watches. That's why usually if I will buy a watch I go for brands that I know. Is this a brand that's it's owned by Seiko? Because I see they are using Seiko movement.

    • +1

They are not owned by Seiko. Like many smaller brands they buy the Seiko produced, Hattori/TMI branded NH35 movement which is the same as the 4R35 that Seiko use in their own watches (except for the model no./branding stamped on to the rotor).

I have this watch and it is very well built. Mine did arrive dead though and they refunded my money. It was then able to fix it by removing a hair from the balance. I expect this is the exception and not the rule given the generally positive feedback from others. A Seiko will have better warranty but you are certainly paying something extra for the name as well. A lot of the components and particularly the case parts that Seiko use are made in China now anyway.

      • Thank you for the explanation. If I was Seiko I wouldn't sell any watch compartments to other brands. Specs look really good on this watch.

        • +1

If you didn't then Citizen (branded as Miyota) or the Swiss (Sellita, Ronda, etc.) would. The Japanese (and other) brands do keep their high end stuff exclusive to their own watches though.

        • Wouldn't they be Chinese clones of the nh35 anyway, or you reckon genuine Seiko part made for non Seikos? I did think it was the latter, id the brand was sii etc. Great movements which make the micro brands appealing

    • +1

I have this watch and I absolutely love it. It's such a looker and doesn't miss a beat. Cannot recommend it enough. You can't get a better watch for the price

  • +4

For the price this is astronomically good value.

    Sapphire crystal
    Ceramic bezel with lumed markers
    Seiko NH35 movement
    Stainless steel case
    Luminous applied indices
    Solid endlinks on the bracelet

Similarly priced Seiko would set you back $500 on sale. My only concern is build quality but video reviews seem to praise.

    • i dont think even a $1k seiko diver does all that really…

      • Silly question but do people literally/mainly use this for diving, or is it just the style

        • +8

          style

i mean i have an omega seamaster 300

name says 300m…. i dont even like to walk 300 meters

also google the silliness to do with 'helium escape valves'

        • +1

I’d say even 99/100 Rolex Submariners divers have never touched water. Too many owners worried about their resale value 🤣

        • Divers are the best style IMOz stainless and rubber straps aren't afraid of water..
Go anywhere, rugged not high polish so minimal scratches and fingerprints, can dress them up or down, great water resistance and lume.

I've worn an Oris over 30m deep, either way they are fine for the pool and beach.

    • Build quality of a $500 seiko is not impressive, made in China on a production line same as this. I don't think you gain anything by paying for the Seiko name

  • +2

Few other options also in the Aliexpress sale:
Top 10 AliExpress Anniversary Sale Watches!

    • Is it just me or are those sale prices impossible to get? All the watches I was looking at had the big discounts only for certain countries (not sure if a VPN would fool Aliexpress at the checkout?), otherwise for us the sale discounts seem like the same Aliexpress coupons that you can get any day of the week.

      • Do you have an example, which one and I'll check.
Free shipping but tax gets added on. Hard to know if the coupons even get applies or is included in the sale Price I think

Yeah not sure but one I was looking at sold out so went from $220 to $450 or something. Agreed the discounts aren't as good as used to be, and 20% cashback would be nice.

Ended up getting charged bout $240 for the Baltany retro chronograph (even when paying in USD $160). Could cancel but pretty cheap still.

        • Take the first one on the list, the Pagani 'Mission' watch, in white and red as per the video. I'd been looking at this one for a while too.
          https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005005243748869.html

On Aliexpress, it shows for me as (all in AU$) 128.46 - 24.25 (6.06 off every 30.31) -7.58 (code AN5) + 11.27 (tax) = 107.90. Not too bad, but nowhere near close the "save $43" in the ad graphic regardless of what currency that is referring to.

Edit: which Baltany? I was thinking about this one (https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005004796153394.html) but for me $200 is a bit much for a AliX quartz.

    • Steeldive SD1953 Submariner homage is $109.94 delivered, with discounts included (confirmed, I just bought one).

  • +1

Got the blue faced one in the last sale and suffice to say I'm probably going to pick up another one.

  • Anyone have a nato watch strap recommendation for these? The original steelband is very so so.. bit sharp too!

  • I have this watch. Best value watch I've ever owned, I prefer wearing it over my King Turtle.

The clasp has sharp edges, easily deburred and cleaned up. It was running about -10s / day and I regulated myself and runs perfectly now.

Well worth the money. It's my first Steeldive, or Chinese brand of any type, I'm going to look for and try another if this model is indicator of their other models.

  • +6

It's almost frustrating to see solid end links and a milled clasp on this watch. Frustrating because Seiko can't do that when they are charging five times more.

    • It cost money for the initial design, prototyping, QA that is factored into pricing. It’s not just the cost of raw materials. Seiko will be cheaper if all they did was copy another brand’s design and were happy if every 5th one produced had an QA issue

      • +1

Absolutely. QA really is the killer. Seiko have to pay an highly trained inspector at the end of the production line to meticulously ensure that there's a totally consistent bezel insert misalignment across the board. His wages and the chum for his guide dog really do add up. The Chinese knockoffs don't do that and you can't leave it to chance.

        • Well they aren't paying them enough - it's a known fact that Seiko quality assurance is very hit and miss- bezels and chapter rings not aligned, seccond hands not hitting the marker. If are are buying one it's best to inspect in person.

  • @WatchNerd any recommendations for watch winders, specially for a Tag Heuer Aquaracer Calibre 5?

    • +2

      Wolf

    • +4

I don't know anything about them sorry. I'd rather my autos stop running if I'm not wearing them, less wear on the movement.

      • +1

Insert the standard “you wouldn’t leave a car running when you’re not using it” argument

        • Yes as mentioned i woulnd't bother with a watch winder unless you are rotating two or three autos every day.
I agree they do wear out the movements if you're not using it, and they are quick enough to set (most people watch 4h of tv a night). I certainly perfer watches without no day/date now, date is easy enough.

          • @G-rig: Or unless you have complications like a perpetual calendar which is painful to set up every time

            • @illusion99: True. These days I'm adding more Solar quartz, Meca-quartz etc to my collection for convenience, low cost maintenance and better time keeping, such as the Seiko solars, G-Shocks and the vk61 /vk63 movements :). Wasn't happy paying over $500 to service an Oris.

              • +1

@G-rig: I was thinking about getting a Seiko Astron for those exact same reasons

              • @G-rig:

                Meca-quartz etc

First time hearing that term. Looked it up thanks. Cool so quartz movement with sweeping second hand. Nice.

                • @harshbdmmaster718: yeah got a pagani 'Daytona' with seiko VK63 movement. the Second hand is stationary but a small one moves on the minute complication. guess they are all slightly different. Keeps great time.

                  • @G-rig: Hey didn't know Pagani design made watches that look like that!
As a non watch connoiseur it looks very similar to a Seiko Panda Speedtimer I think I have seen here before.
The Daytona is pretty awesome for $65USD at least that's this post says https://www.reddit.com/r/ChineseWatches/comments/r9zug1/paga…

So the Second hand on the Daytona is only activated when using the timer mode?

                    • @harshbdmmaster718: yep. I like it not sweeping, as it isn't obvious then if it's quartz.

lets not kid ourselves, it's a copy of the rolex daytona, so are a lot of those other ones :)

                      • @G-rig:

lets not kid ourselves, it's a copy of the rolex daytona, so are a lot of those other ones :)

Sorry I had no idea lol. I am clueless I admit I have no idea what Rolex's look like or which ones are Rolex's homages.

                    • @harshbdmmaster718:

So the Second hand on the Daytona is only activated when using the timer mode?

That's the norm with chronograph movements. But it's odd the first time you come across it because you assume the second hand is the same as the second hand on a 'normal' watch.

                      • @Astronaut Joe:

That's the norm with chronograph movements.

Yeah but on real chronographs it does dual duties right? It functions as both Second hand and Stopwatch (Timer) hand. While I think you are saying on your Daytona it only functions as a Stopwatch hand.

                        • @harshbdmmaster718: Even the Omega Speedy works that way. The second hand has to start from zero to be able to use the tachymetre bezel, so they have a seconds subdial that does the normal day-to-day seconds ticking, while the large second hand sits at the 12 o'clock ready for the chrono function to be started.

                        • @harshbdmmaster718: No one ever uses all that for th actual functions, even on the casinos lol.

                          Mostly style and wrist presence

          • @G-rig:

I certainly perfer watches without no day/date now, date is easy enough.

I'm still not into analog/mechanical watches yet, but I really like the minimalist look with just time no date at all. One I recently saw in a video was the Namica Shirahama.

            • @harshbdmmaster718: Yeah for me it's all about legibility and being able to tell the time easily at a quick glance. Another reason why I like field watches.. I've got the Hamilton khaki field and it's very clean - it's hand wind but no date so very quick to set and 80h power reserve.

A lot of watches the date window is pretty small but always got a phone and Fitbit to see extra information.
