i would recommend to ring the SIXT branch to make sure there will be Kona or similar for you on your booked day to avoid disappointment.
I have had accidental replacement vehicle with NRMA and it was booked two weeks in advance for Kona.
On that day, there was not any SUV at all, I have to drive a yaris to another nearby branch, i was being told that branch has Kona there and in fact, they did not!, At the end, i drove away with a compact SUV.

    • Thanks for the heads up. Luckily it is just for one day (visiting on a cruise ship) and there are only two of us, so any car will do. Of course, if it is a lower category I will expect to pay a lower price.

This happens with any rental companies and has been exacerbated with covid.

I like that SIXT has cars that are as big as trucks because they are trucks.

  • Yea, i like 25% off, but i hate when companies hide behind virtue…

SIXT's discount promotions are difficult to understand/believe. The difference between a quote for a 13-day booking today with a 25% discount is only $60 less than an identical booking (same vehicle, same dates, and same location) made 2 months ago with a 15% discount. A comparison of the price breakdown for the two quotes shows the daily rate has increased, the price for a GPS has increased, and the "Premium Location Fee" for pick-up at an airport has also increased. All within less than 2 months! All due to inflation?

They definitely increased their base pricing. Their moving truck rates used to be great value and now they are more expensive than Budget Rentals. This increase was all within a year.

Rental cars are almost always dynamically priced based on supply v demand for a particular period, like hotels and airfares

So 2 months ago, there would’ve been less bookings made and therefore cheaper compared to now.
Pre-Covid, it wasn’t unusual to get a weekly rental in a Corolla for $160/week from airports during off peak times because they had an over supply of cars available.

Premium location is usually a % of the base so would make sense for that to increase too. GPS seems unusual though

why do rental companies make searching for particular model availability (eg EVs) so hard.
