It's great that game journalists gave it a 7 or an 8, but they aren't the ones buying the game and there is a pretty big disconnect between them and most players.
Fair enough, I looked at the 8/10 from IGN and 87% from Google users.
People will continue to buy the game, so no reason for Ubisoft to stop milking the franchise.
Metacritic is unreliable trash that's used for brigading (e.g. "Italian dialogue missing"), sometimes before a game is even released.
Most people didn't mind FC6, it's just Far Cry for 2021, like every formulaic Ubisoft game these days you know exactly what you're going to get.

Probably depends on individual taste.
I enjoyed Far Cry Primal, closely followed by Far Cry 3. I think i enjoyed the open worldness and scenaries better.
The controls, game play and mechanism, and weapons may have been better in latter ones, but i didn't feel the attachment i had to the world like the above two.

A really good price for this iteration that'll probably annoy you too much to finish. While FC has always been silly, this one has beyond bland mission design, and is punctuated by the pure annoyingness of a cast of ridiculous characters that Ubisoft's 44 year old marketers clearly figured teenage boys would find 'totally tubular', led by an entirely detestable main character whose arc is basically "Mass murder makes me horny".
I really enjoyed this one. Didnt get 100% cos as mentioned gets pretty old after main story.
Any suggestions for similar games to try? Ive a pretty casual gamer and found with this i was able to pick up and be relatively decent in a short time.
Im on xbox and do have GP but am struggling to find new thongs to play when going deeper into the catalogue.

Found myself wanting to play another Far Cry game, so I went back and played Far Cry 4 - loved it
Enjoyed Far Cry 6 at first, but got bored. Figure I'll give it a rest for a year or two then come back to it.
Agree with all your points, but I just LOVED the original, but I'm old, and it was one of my first open world, stealth, island setting games.
I LOVED the setting of Far Cry 2, graphics and fire effect, hated the same 2 mission types, lack of wildlife, and the fact everyone in the country knew who you were from 500m away and instantly wanted to kill you.

I went back and played Far Cry 4 - loved it - interesting… I wonder if I will share the same experience and go back and try again.

I like FC 2,3,4,5 but it was progressively less interesting with each one. Those fire effects and graphics in FC2 were really up there back in the day.
They were fun to play but 4 and 5 were unremarkable.
New Dawn felt like a waste of money, and I only finished it because of the open-world sandbox FPS genre. You might feel disrespected with New Dawn because it's a recycled game from FC5. It's a DLC packaged as a standalone game.
Same. First broke my PC capability, and was so fresh.
I found FC2 boring & forced cutscenes slowed it down. Stopped after a few hours, never returned.
FC3 was mint. I enjoyed 4, new dawn & primal. 5 was OK. By 6… I felt they were just following a formula, as was I. Finished it as a chore.
I s'pose it's hard for them to please everyone. Subject matter was mostly what got me offside.
Yeah I’ve just finished it - while it did get repetitive towards the end, it’s a well made breath of fresh air for the franchise. Nothing like riding a sabertooth tiger across the landscape and no other animals dating to attack you haha!
