[Open Box] Razer Tomahawk Desktop: i9-9980HK, 16GB RAM, 512GB SSD, 2TB HDD, 750W PSU $699 + Delivery @ BPC Technology

680

buy only if you're a Razer fan I guess. that makes me one? lol this is $1300+ elsewhere

official specs and support page

Also here are max dimensions of cards that will fit into this:
"The peak height of the graphics card should not exceed 5.51 in (approx. 140 mm) and should have at least 1 in (approx. 25 mm) allowance for the power connectors."

"Length: 12.6 in / 320 mm
Height: 5.51 in / 140 mm
Width: 1.36 in / 60 mm"

I see people often buy those SFF refurbished desktops from Dell or HP and then struggle adding GPUs into them

now here's an alternative:
- brand new despite open box
- i9-9980HK CPU (8c/16t)
- fitted out with dual channel 16 GB of RAM and 512 GB of SSD (3rd gen Samsung NVMe)
- one blank m.2 slot for second NVMe
- even comes with 2 TB HDD (2.5" SATA)
- Windows 10 Home
- 10L case not much larger than Razer external GPU housing

at this price it's a good alternative to those refurbished SFF boxes as it comes with decent RAM and SSD, in a solid metal Razer tool-less case, with 750W power supply, this thing easily fits 3 cooler cards (original config came with 3080 FE), has 2 free 6+2 power connectors

but honestly when you can buy a brand new system from BPC or Enigma or TechFast for $999 it's hard to define value for this. this is based around Intel NUC Extreme Compute Element version 9, advertised that you can just easily swap it out later (BPC sell version 12 for $999 lol), but that's hogwash because unless you upgrade the "Board Element" with it, you're stuck with PCIe Gen3 for your graphics slot.

BPC do have the upgraded "Board Element" with PCIe Gen4 though.. incidentally? haha

on the other hand, this comes with Windows 10 Home, while BPC / TechSlow / Enigma don't give you activated OS, so there's that I guess.

ok sorry footie is starting deal posted

ok half time! so here come more thoughts:

Ports:
- 2x gigabit Ethernet ports (why two? but thanks Intel)
- 4x USB 3 ports (20 Gbps speed)
- 2x Thunderbolt 3 ports
- WiFi 6 on board (AX200)
- optical line out (doubles as 3.5mm line out)
- 3.5mm headset jack
- HDMI 2.0 for built in graphics

Cooling:
- Intel NUC Extreme Compute Element (what a name!) has its own cooler
- 2x 120mm fans on top

Cons:
- upgrading NUC element will cost ya
- also you'll have to upgrade the Board Element if you want PCIe 4 or 5 (comes with PCIe 3 board)
- zero ports on the front panel. just huge logo. Come on Razer you designed and built in RGB hardware, but couldn't route a single USB to the front? goddamit

Pros:
- it's got cool RGB
- it's Razer (sorry should have been a con)
- all metal build
- compact and looks awesome
- that's all there's to say on the matter

oh, and for the record - I got one from BPC about 2 weeks ago. I like it, it's quiet and got RGB. I use it for photo editing at which it totally excels, but this should do gaming just fine. I'm tempted to stick a 6650 XT into it at some stage.

last but not least, don't forget to grab last BIOS here

              • @Tollery: If you miss paying full amount means you can pay the difference

                • @Lonewolf1983: I kind of under stood "On-line order short paid" but still don't understand how but doesn't matter lol

              • @Tollery: Who knows lol. Probably trying to explain something about paying more for something you didn't purchase in the first place

              • @Tollery: It means they say that they say you didn't pay enough money and they are trying to get more money out of you before they give you the product. This just sounds dodgy as.

                • @hollykryten: The wording makes it seem like you're paying more

                  • @Tollery: Exactly. It looks like they want you to pay more before they will release the goods to you. Did you pay the price in full which was being sold?. Because the wording is saying that you short paid. If you paid the full price then what the heck.

                    • @hollykryten: How would you not pay that in full? and if you didn't pay for it, you don't own it. I get what it means, just not how it work. lay-buy? afterbuy? as in how does someone not pay the whole cost at checkout?

Unless the order cost more then what has been paid but then again, they can't ask for more payment after you have paid the asking price.

                      • @Tollery: If it was sent through a direct bank deposit it's possible to accidentally send a monetary amount that's under the invoice cost. BPC does accept direct deposit.

  • Hmm I missed this but I would have bought one to be a plex server. This would have been epic at that.

  • Got the same 'oos and upsale' email like everyone else. It seems like they are offering the windows licence for free as some form of compensation I guess.

Just asked them that to switch out the windows license they are offering me for a ram & psu upgrade which as per their own website is cheaper than the windows license. If they can match my request I will go for it. If they cant even do that? nah f*** them.

    • dammit apologies for this experience mate. didn't expect BPC to screw up like this

      • Not your fault haha mate don’t apologise. Its a good deal you spotted and thats that

  • hey @shabaka got an update somebody cancelled their order so i can receive the razer as per normal. thanks again for the deal posting :)

    • Bah they emailed me but i was too slow
      All good, enjoy!

    • wow lucky break :)

    • fit in monster looking 2060 I got for $200, was easy enough. surprised how well 2060 aged, a lot pf gaming can be done comfortably even on my 4k monitor

      did you get your unit?

      • nah not yet sadly, bpc was extremely late to shipping my order and the package was only picked up today 2 hours ago by the courier - to think I paid for startrack express!

How did you find the rgbs? did everything sync well with the razer synapse software?

        • I have no RGB on the GPU, everything else is Razer Chroma, works flawlessly

installed 2x1tb NVMes, did restore to factory settings to get the SSD going instead of original 512gb

replaced RAM with my 32gb kit

          works perfectly fine

          • @shabaka: ah nice to hear. what speeds did you have on those rams? is undervolting and oc controls unlocked via xtu?

            • @Brrrrt: haven't tried xtu, happy with the performance. will try on the weekend 😊

rams are 3200 and do surprisingly report as running at 3200, unless hwinfo is wrong

              • @shabaka: thanks for that, guess i will grab some 3200mhz sticks now haha

                • @Brrrrt: with XTU I ran into stability issues, and decided to stop playing with it for now :) maybe I forgot how it all works, it just goes back to Default after every restart - do I need to switch it manually to a custom profile?

I had it running at -135mv fine, but crashed after benchmark, so I decided to settle on -120mv then I noticed that bluetooth no longer works. then I decided nah uninstalled it, p[ower cycled, bluetooth came back, so I'll leave it at that for now :) let me know how you fare

                  • @shabaka: ah cool i will give it a go as well. thanks for the info!

                    • @Brrrrt: ended up deciding to sell on my 2060 and installed RX 6700 for $419 from Center Con deal. boy, I can do way more gaming here than I originally intended lol

                    • @Brrrrt: ended up installing T-Force Zeus RAM into this puppy, it runs fine with XMP enabled at 3200 CL16. what have I done! what was supposed to be a simple desktop machine for working with photos is now my primary gaming rig.
