buy only if you're a Razer fan I guess. that makes me one? lol this is $1300+ elsewhere
official specs and support page
Also here are max dimensions of cards that will fit into this:
"The peak height of the graphics card should not exceed 5.51 in (approx. 140 mm) and should have at least 1 in (approx. 25 mm) allowance for the power connectors."
"Length: 12.6 in / 320 mm
Height: 5.51 in / 140 mm
Width: 1.36 in / 60 mm"
I see people often buy those SFF refurbished desktops from Dell or HP and then struggle adding GPUs into them
now here's an alternative:
- brand new despite open box
- i9-9980HK CPU (8c/16t)
- fitted out with dual channel 16 GB of RAM and 512 GB of SSD (3rd gen Samsung NVMe)
- one blank m.2 slot for second NVMe
- even comes with 2 TB HDD (2.5" SATA)
- Windows 10 Home
- 10L case not much larger than Razer external GPU housing
at this price it's a good alternative to those refurbished SFF boxes as it comes with decent RAM and SSD, in a solid metal Razer tool-less case, with 750W power supply, this thing easily fits 3 cooler cards (original config came with 3080 FE), has 2 free 6+2 power connectors
but honestly when you can buy a brand new system from BPC or Enigma or TechFast for $999 it's hard to define value for this. this is based around Intel NUC Extreme Compute Element version 9, advertised that you can just easily swap it out later (BPC sell version 12 for $999 lol), but that's hogwash because unless you upgrade the "Board Element" with it, you're stuck with PCIe Gen3 for your graphics slot.
BPC do have the upgraded "Board Element" with PCIe Gen4 though.. incidentally? haha
on the other hand, this comes with Windows 10 Home, while BPC / TechSlow / Enigma don't give you activated OS, so there's that I guess.
ok sorry footie is starting deal posted
ok half time! so here come more thoughts:
Ports:
- 2x gigabit Ethernet ports (why two? but thanks Intel)
- 4x USB 3 ports (20 Gbps speed)
- 2x Thunderbolt 3 ports
- WiFi 6 on board (AX200)
- optical line out (doubles as 3.5mm line out)
- 3.5mm headset jack
- HDMI 2.0 for built in graphics
Cooling:
- Intel NUC Extreme Compute Element (what a name!) has its own cooler
- 2x 120mm fans on top
Cons:
- upgrading NUC element will cost ya
- also you'll have to upgrade the Board Element if you want PCIe 4 or 5 (comes with PCIe 3 board)
- zero ports on the front panel. just huge logo. Come on Razer you designed and built in RGB hardware, but couldn't route a single USB to the front? goddamit
Pros:
- it's got cool RGB
- it's Razer (sorry should have been a con)
- all metal build
- compact and looks awesome
- that's all there's to say on the matter
oh, and for the record - I got one from BPC about 2 weeks ago. I like it, it's quiet and got RGB. I use it for photo editing at which it totally excels, but this should do gaming just fine. I'm tempted to stick a 6650 XT into it at some stage.
last but not least, don't forget to grab last BIOS here
