    SSDs are becoming cheap

    • +16

It's a budget, large, mostly games, ssd. Not designed for high writes for say video edits. At $65/tb it's pretty cheap!

    • +65

      129 for 2tb and man’s still got a complaint

      • +27

Next post: FREE 8TB SSDs with FREE SHIPPING

        PlushToys: Ewww it's blue!

    • you will never even get close to 480tbw lol!

      Be lucky to do 100

      • +4

        I will.
        Power on time: 1175 days
        Lifetime writes: 734.95 TB

        • +8

Thats 640GB per day. How did you accomplish that?

        • +1

thats because your don't have enough ram and your SSD is being used constantly

          BUY MORE RAM

          • +1

            @desync: I have 32GB of RAM, I think that's enough for me.

            • +2

@gamerkonks: You never know, I was thinking the same until recently with 32 GB. I was looking at the task manager and it was using virtual memory on SSD for around 50 GB. I upgraded to 64 GB and it made it much faster as well.

      • The TBW is only a worse-case indication based on random Read/Writes on small files. If you use it to transfer lots of largish files the endurance is often many times higher than that. The real measure of an SSDs lifespan is the number of Program/Erase (PE) cycles per NAND cell but that's harder to quantify to the average user in terms of amount of data written.

    • +3

If you bought the WD equivalent of this drive and lets say the data written to SSD every day is 200GB, then 600TBW can meet 600*1024/365/200=8.41 years, in other words, this drive can be used for about 6 years. with 200gb per day.

    • +1

131 GB of writes per day, every day for 10 years. I can live with that!

    • +3

What is wrong with some people here. It's almost every single time there is an M.2 deal people always find a way to sh*t on it, I'm trying to personally buy a new one and these comments consistently throw me off. If you're such an expert then what is a better or the best SSD for this price?

      • +4

        Transcend 2TB MTE220S for $189.15 3,500R/2,700W, DRAM cache and has 4400TBW.

        • +4

It's also 60 dollars more, or in relative terms, 50% (!!) more than the posted deal.
For most people, this drive is already more than enough to meet the storage requirements of typical day to day use. Note that I said "typical", because only specialised or power users have more requirements. No regular person needs 4400TBW. People on here nitpick too much while forgetting the price tag or needs of others.

        • Absolutely not worth the extra $60 - this drive at $129 is a much better deal.

There's no practical difference between 480TBW and 4400TBW - you aren't going to get close to either.

      • Look at your budget first, think about how much you can realistically spend. Then look at your needs/wants, and find something that will meet them. If you have the money, I'd go for a Solidigm P44 Pro (it's like a SK Hynix Platinum P41 with different firmware). However, the price will be significantly higher than this. You will gain much better efficiency (battery life, if used in a notebook), plus significantly more endurance (1200TBW) than this budget drive. At the end of the day, getting a better drive should mean it will last longer overall and be more reliable and better performing.

I've never understood what budget means when buying something.

If you don't have enough, wait and save.

Say you have 100k savings sitting in a bank account and want to buy a nice gaming card, do you have to buy the 4090TI just because you have the money/"budget"??

I would buy a 6700XT and get much better value for my money, and still have 100k in the bank.

The only time the word budget comes up when I want/need something is when dealing with scumbag tradies who always ask what your budget is before giving a simple quote for a 3*3m slab of concrete.

          • @Grish: "if you're homeless just buy a home"

            • -1

@Pugkin: Yes, it's much cheaper than renting.

            • @Pugkin: just rich people saying rich people things

    • Need free and two! :)

  • +8

I bought a sata for more than this. Spewing.

    • +2

bought my 1tb intel 660p for more than this a couple years back

      • My purchase was like couple months ago.

      • Same here!

        • +1

          Sweet. Nice user name.

    • I bought 1tb A2000 for $230 when covid started. no regrets

      • +1

I overpaid for a Nvidia 3080 in December 2021. 1 Year of gaming before the price came down again to what I paid.

        • I paid 1500 for C2 42 like 3 months back and thought it was a good deal. Its 995 now.

    • -1

      Lol sata

    • i bought a 500gb p5 for this

    • I bought a 275mb PATA HDD for more than this.

  • How would this go being installed in a NUC running Ubuntu with Plex/Jellyfin and PiHole? Media stored on the same drive.

    • +1

Ok but mind the TBW for logs and docker

      • +7

Probably by the time it wears our a 2TB SSD will be $15 at this pace.

      • +10

If you're writing tbs of docker logs, your config is wrong =P

    • +1

You can write 350 GB per day, every single day for 4 years.
Unless your paging, perform a lot of transcoding then I can't see this being an issue.
Sure you can get a drive with more TBW but that drive still won't be covered beyond it's warranty.

  • +2

Waiting for a good 2TB 4.0 drive to get down to around 160

    soon ^TM ?

    • Same boat. hope so. I am hoping SN770, P5 Plus reach there. They have been 195ish earlier. Lesser if you buy 2.

    • Looks like you missed this one
      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/762274

      • That was a good one, but it sold out too fast I guess.

    • waiting on cheap 4tb 3.0 w/dram myself

  • Need recommendations, will this work to replace on MacBook? My macbook supports it, just a matter of finding the one that is suitable as a default boot drive.

    • -4

Mate, you’re seriously asking on this website? You’re obviously better off asking on a Mac enthusiasts site or reddit, etc.

    • +2

      Yes.
      Actually I'm not sure.

      Maybe no?

    • +5

There are many models of 'Macbook', which do you own?

    • +1

It should work with Macbook Air (Mid 2013-2017) or Macbook Pro (Late 2013 - Mid 2015). Most importantly, you will need a decent SSD adapter for your Macbook. AFAIK, Samsung 960 Evo Plus is not supported by some adapters, Sintech is a good one to use if you are interested.

  • This or the Intel one I have on back order at mwave for $150? Will be used as an external drive for roms on my steam deck.

  • Great for scratch disks drives use

  • Delivery around $14-19 for Sydney metro

  • Anyone got a recommendation for an enclosure to stick this in?

  • Anyone can recommend a case i can turn this to a hard drive?

  • +6

This PNY 2TB has a TBW rating of 480TB.

The Silicon Power below should be a better long-term option with its 1200TB TBW rating.

  • Does anybody know if there's any considerations for how many of these you should put on a motherboard? (my Asus PRIME Z690-P WIFI D4 has 3 M2 slots and I've filled 2).

I know back in the day there could be issues with number of hard-drives conflicting with certain lanes or something, and I also have 3 or 4 HDDS/SSDs connected via the SATA slots. The ideally situation would be to migrate everything to M2s given the chance having recently discovered how much smaller and easier to manage they are, so some of those older HDDS might come out.

    • +1

Check your manual. The 3rd slot could cut off 2 sata lanes (6>4)

*looks like you can run 3x m.2 because you only have 4 sata lanes by design.

  • well everyone is going gang busters on upgrades for the PS5s storage with these bad boys.

i need to purchase one of these for my lappy….. dam this cheap.

    • Was going to ask if these work on PS5? Not sure if it's fast enough

      • Not recommended as it does not meet Sony requirement of 5,500mb. Also it needs to be gen 4 on PS5. One of the cheapest gen 4 2TB at present that meets the PS5 specs is Crucial P5 Plus currently selling for $208 on Amazon without heatsink which is required so add more $ for one of those. If wanting better product expect to pay approx $50 or more for the likes of a 2TB WD SN850x or CORSAIR MP600 PRO LPX and so on.

  • I bought a 512GB for $130. WTF

  • +1

Should I buy this from Umart and try to cancel my order for the MWave drive that's on backorder, despite being in-stock when I ordered it?

    • I would - I had the same issue with the same SSD and needed the part ASAP so I paid $20 extra for a kingston one they had in stock, now I feel ripped off

      • Thanks, just cancelled my MWave order and picked one up at Umart.

This M.2 has slightly lower I/O speeds but I doubt I'll notice given how lightly I use my PC.

    • i did, and didnt get one of these. No regrets … 3 weeks to get it after it says its available… what a joke

  • Would this work ok in a PS5?

    • +3

No, it's gen 3. You need gen 4 for it to work.

PS5s are flexible on speed, they recommend 5500mb/s and will work with slower but the Gen 4x4 is a requirement.

  • When will MSY stores all become Umart branded?
Anyone else remember MSY back in the day, specifically the Auburn store :)

  • Seems like it's out of stock (except for a single MSY store in Slacks Creek)? Damn it got ozbargain'ed

  • +8
    • Thanks looks like can order 2 at a time.

    • Ordered here, all others OOS. Thanks

    • Thanks mate, ordered 1.

  • How's the reliability of these?

  • +1

I got a couple last week. New PC build on z690 mobo. Kingston KC3000 1TB tested 7012MB/s read & 6066MB/s write. The PNY 2397MB/s read & 2001MB/s write. Big difference between the two but the PNY 2TB is still 4x faster than my nearest 2.5" SSD - Samsung 850 EVO 500GB 548 read/518 write.

  • +5
    • Damn that's an incredible price for a 2TB drive 😳

    • +1

Has anyone ordered one from JW, and received it?
