[Orders Cancelled] [eBay Plus] LG C2 42" OLED 4K TV $1069 Delivered @ Powerland eBay

Moved to Forum: Original Link

I was looking for a high FPS OLED enormous 4K monitor after drooling over all the C2s on r/battlestations, and I'm expecting retailers to keep deeply discounting these as the rumoured C3 approaches.
Shoutout to my disappointed family and friends at the huge amount of BF2042 I'm gonna do with this.
Thank you for listening to my ted talk

    Dayum, thats cheep.

    Thanks OP

    • Very tempted, but delivery "Estimated between Thu, 6 Apr and Fri, 14 Apr" to Perth and no physical store to take it back to for warranty is putting me off.

Hopefully in the next Month we see local stores hitting this price, or lower with eBay codes off.

It says last one left, good luck to whoever that is

Oh no.. wanted a triple setup for Sim racing 😆

More than 11 available, stop f'ing around

    • huh, why the downvotes? It says right there on the ebay item title. Whether or not thats true, thats on them not me.

      • 😂 I just saw that lol 😂 soz, I but at the same time more tha than 11 for you to buy

      • I think seller is trying to increase sales with that fake sub title

  • May I know, before I pull the trigger, is it good as WFH monitor? 😂

Mainly want it as dual duty, PS5 120Hz and decent WFH. I recently heard it's not a good option for WFH as text is hard to read. Maybe someone who is using it could comment. Thanks

    • +4

Text is readable! Just make sure you configure ClearType on your Windows Machine (Not sure what the apple alternative is).

I've been using as a monitor since Nov '22 and it's fantastic. Have 700 hours on it and no issues whatsoever

    • Using it right now with both mac and windows, fantastic “monitor”.

      • Hey.

Can you please share your 42” C2 settings you use with mac?

        Thanks.

        • Didn’t do anything special really, using filmmaker mode as it’s slightly darker, HDR on . New mac supports 120hz however mine only runs on 60hz which is fine.

        • Edit: HDR is actually off(mac settings), when on text is too bright.

          • @pgsheng: Okay.

I’ve spent a bit of time watching YouTube videos and experimenting to get it decent on my m1 Mac mini.

If you hit the green button on the remote many times the tv will show video information. Eg. RGB 8b TM (this is, I think, preferred)

It’s certainly not obvious that the PC label actually has functionality.

(If you set in Displays to “Larger Text” then 120Hz is available but of course the resolution is stupid).

    • Remember the only thing with OLED is burn in on your screen.

There is pretty decent tricks to minimise / prevent burn in, just FYI, something to consider. Maybe wait for a mini led or the like.

There is a good youtube review about using this 42" C2 as a computer monitor. Pretty sure it was this one. https://youtu.be/io_AFseYleE

You probably don't have time to watch it before deciding so here is a TLDR from what I remember.

Yes it feels too big, you need to have a extra deep desk or will have issues after you end up pushing the monitor right against the wall and still have it feel too big/close to you.
(Honestly this is the major point IMO, I think 32" is as big as you want to go for desk use. Bigger is just pointless because you just push it further back and it ends up looking the same size anyway).

One of the main benefits over a smaller monitor they got out of it was to have it slightly closer and setup Windows Powertoys (maybe it's possible by default in W11) so they could snap 3 or 4 different windows (programs) to each corner and use it that way instead of a multi monitor setup. One more niche use they got out of it was being able to push away from the desk and use it watch movies.

OLED burn in was a concern, but they used it long term and did not experience any issues. I think they did run a OLED burn in prevention mode though.

There was also another review I remember, who mentioned it being just fine in terms of size. But they also had custom made desks because they wanted heaps of desk space, which were much deeper than normal. (Pretty sure standard desk depth is between 70 to 80cm, but they had their desktops custom made and 100cm deep)

      • You can just buy a TV stand if your desk is not deep enough

      • Ikea sell desks that are 100 x 150, if that is what would put you off. It sounds like the size is ok at that distance?

        • Ikea sell desks that are 100 x 150,

Very unusual dimensions for a desk I think. Very square.

if that is what would put you off. It sounds like the size is ok at that distance?

Yes but at that kind of distance sitting in your chair there will be around ~1.3m distance between your eyes and the monitor. Making the C2 look smaller, equivalent to a 4K 32 inch LCD for around $500 which is positioned closer. You could even add a monitor arm making the positioning of the 32 inch more flexible/frequently adjustable and still end up well under $1000.
The only "useful" case I can see by having the 42 inch C2 against the wall at the back edge is if you 100% need all that desk space usable in front of the monitor.

    • +4

I use my 48" C1 as a monitor - well sorta. I don't do much productivity on it but I do lots of PC gaming on it. Personally, I couldn't use it as a productivity monitor. It's too big and hurts my eyes when reading text. Also, Windows can't display text properly due to the pixel layout so everything has a chromatic aberration to it. It's fine when gaming but word processing, coding, or even general browsing is much better on an IPS. As a monitor for gaming, it's glorious. Incredible HDR, proper BFI, and 120Hz with instant pixel response.

    • +2

Many will disagree with me, but it is better to have this just for media and gaming and have a smaller IPS monitor for work.

      • +1

Yep, this is what I do. Don;t care about burnin then.

    • +5

I have a 42" C2 side by side with a pretty high end IPS panel and I actually prefer the OLED now. My use is 70% productivity and 30% media and gaming.

I have it mounted to an arm at the back of a 90cm deep desk and it seems perfect at 100% scaling. Wouldn't want it much closer than that because you can see the weird text fringing even 30cm closer. There's some good Youtube videos on how to best set the colour, white balance, some downloads to improve text, etc.

I've turned off the aggressive brightness dimming with a service remote, use dark mode, Cleartype, black background, hidden taskbar, 2 min screen saver. I've kept a couple of the TVs settings on like logo brightness and screen movement and run the pixel cleaner thing once in a while. I also rearrange my windows from time to time with Fancyzones so not always using the same layout.

Definitely has its annoyances, but if you're a nerd you'll still love it regardless.

      • I've tried using ClearType and the text still looks bad. Maybe I've selected the wrong "what looks best to you" options?

        • +1

The most noticable thing I changed was setting windows and all apps to dark mode, made a bigger difference than any other tweaks for text readability

        • I've tried using ClearType and the text still looks bad. Maybe I've selected the wrong "what looks best to you" options?

To be honest I think you just have the C2 too close. If you push it back further away the pixels will be less visible. I think pushing it back and using scaling in Windows will still look better than having the C2 closer.

You have to remember it is an OLED so it uses pentile pixel arrangement which means the pixel density will appear lower than the equivalent LCD panel.
Without getting into exact maths, a 4K 42 inch OLED will be closer in pixel density to 1440p 42 inch LCD.

    • +1

Would be great if you work on your own amchine or have the ability to install powertoys/fancyzones on whetever computer you are using. Without it you are far better off with multiple smaller monitors, but with it it's fantastic.

    • Have found that the latest few firmware update's have made it viable to it connect wirelessly, but still need to turn it down to 1920x1080 for best performance. if you're able to connect to it via a cable then you'll have no issue

previous to the update the lag was consistent across any resolution and painful when moving the mouse / windows

if you do use a full-tunnel VPN then this won't work while you're connected

  • Damn nice price !

Late to the OLED party but boy am I keen

Like I told my mate the other day, the only regret you will have with OLED is not getting one sooner

          • @reactor-au: 100% agree. I upgraded from a 12 year old 42" 720p plasma to a 55" C2 late last year and my god the difference is incredible.

            • +1

@gentlekoala5906: My mate was a big time projector advocate, went from a $3k projector to 77C2, he said everything I told him he would say, including "I hate you" after he went to view the C2 at a showroom with his wife whom he said could also instantly tell the difference between OLED and LCD.

            • @gentlekoala5906: Is the OLED brighter than your plasma? Still rocking a 60" 2014 plasma, which is a bit dim in the living room.

    • thanks a lot… you just cost me $2364.55 ;)

I bought mine when it first hit $1800, no complaints so far. Over 3000+ hours in using it as a PC monitor, not really taking any precautions like hiding the taskbar or hiding the icons and still no burn ins (fingers crossed). $1069 delivered is so tempting tho to get another one, but I don't have a deep enough desk to use it as a side monitor.

  • +1

$73.17 shipping cost applies on my Tasmanian address

  • Damn, thats 400$ cheaper than what I paid 3 months back!

    • Deflation!

      • Not deflation, normal product cycle price changes. This is the end of c2, making way for c3.

        • While consumers consider the price cycle normal, the CPI would record this event as deflation. (Which is why inflation is actually much higher than the numbers would imply)

  • Would an 80cm desk depth be enough to use it as main desktop display?

    • Having the monitor 80-100cm away from your eyes should be OK for monitor use. Your desk being 80cm deep would mean it'd be sitting 70-75cm away which may be a tad too close.

    • Yes. Thats what I am using.

    • I'm using a table 75cm depth. It's enough for me. For desktop use, I usually focus on one side or area. If I want to watch a movie, I usually step back a bit.

    • My desk is 80cm deep, it’s perfect , any smaller than 80cm might be a problem with eye strain

    • I have a 60cm desk and purchased one a few weeks ago, it's was a touch close but I've got it basically at the back edge of the desk now and with sitting position I'm about 70cm from the screen and have found it pretty decent. An 80cm desk would be fine I think

    hey 42" monitor owners!
do you recommend a specific monitor arm and will it need a 100mmx100mm to 300mmx200mm VESA adaptor?
    thanks!

    • +3

You might consider just leaving it on its supplied feet. I looked at mounting it but the feet got it nice and close to the wall and it was already at the right height so saw no real upside in mounting it.

      • +1

        thanks for your advice!!

    • I'm using adaptor with Prism Arc+.
      Love it

      • ohh these look great!

    • +1

I'm using the Dell MSA20 and Vivo adapter
You have to reverse a few of the bolts for the install (because you're screwing the VIVO VESA adapter plate into the Dell VESA adapter plate) but it's been a very solid solution

The DOSS adapter looks identical, but from what I can tell doesn't come with the screws and nuts you need

    • Alternative opinion, I found the fee tto be slightly lower than I'd prefer. But not by a lot.

    • +1

I started with it on it's stand and it was ok as it's pretty minimal but it was a bit low and I wanted to push it as far back as possible, which I was doing by hanging it off the back of the desk basically (leaning on the wall).

To mount it, reddit seems to mostly talk about the Ergotron HX as an arm that allows you to get it as far back as possible but that things way too expensive.

I purchased and installed the following last night to mount it and push it to the back edge of my 60cm desk.
      https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B07L8MLTGS?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_…
      https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B0787JHQMP?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_…

Only thing I've noticed so far is the rotate/tilt on the mount point seems a touch weak. It rotates super easily and seems to tilt a tiny bit after I've hand tightened. There doesnt seem to be a way to tighten rotation, but for tilt I plan to check it over the next few days for any further tilt and maybe use a drill to tighten it.

  • Has anyone tried pricematching eBay sellers with a retailer like JB?

  • +1

    Just bought. Thanks OP.

    • I'm thrilled on your behalf!!!

  • Daym, just bought this last Sunday… sigh. Still a pretty good monitor/tv for my setup

  • -2

Tempting! But I’ll wait for C3, if not for this timing I would of bought

    • +2

I was waiting for the C3 as well, but all reports seem to say it is extremely meh, and even a downgrade in a way (apparently it looks like they now prevent you from disabling the automatic brightness limiter via the service menu).

Wow that HDTVTest video is a bit grim if those were production model C3s. I wouldn't be using the C2 as a PC monitor without being able to turn off TPC and GSR.

  • +1

Hey gamers that run 120FPS in 4k, what do you use to convert a DVI cable to HDMI 2.1 and still send 120FPS at 4k?

    • +3

Bit confused as to why you want to use DVI? Assuming you have a graphics card good enough for 120FPS at 4K, you probably already have HDMI or DisplayPort on it?

      • +3

I dare say he means Displayport and accidentally called it DVI?

    • +2

Been a while since I used DVI. From memory even Dual-Link DVI couldn't handle 4K 60Hz let alone 4K 120Hz.

    • Yes sorry i meant displayport to hdmi 2.1
I have a 3090 with only 1x hdmi but thata already allocated to a huge screen, just hoping i can use one of the displayport ports to connect the C2

      • You can but you won't get VRR using an adapter I believe
